SGOTM 02 - Team CFR

Akotsgrad is supposed to be able to swiftly change its role by moving citizens between hills and library as we've discussed.
Obormotgrad will produce workers, no doubt, I'd just have liked to get more now - greedy I am,eh? :D

I am ready to play!

Premove:
Akotsgrad is renamed Tokyo; Obormotgrad - Edo
Production plan: Osaka - Palace, Tokyo - Library

Tech plan: Sailing - ???CL, Machinery or Alphabet
Set research rate at 30%

(0) - Three free warrior are directed to investigation.
NW - long to Spain,
SW(with Woodsman 2) - short near Tokyo

Your plan?

For tech plan I'd propose Sailing - Machinery, as we need to get Optics ASAP and next GS is in 44 turns - ou won't get these 2 techs and CoL on time.

Tokyo production - you might reconsider my primary plan and agree with Obormot on obelisk, as it requires only 6 moves for horse improvement and no chopping, so our workers are free to further improve the city. We won't need library there for quite a long time, and by them we shall have it. It's up to you to decide. Calculations are here

When we shall study the Alphabet?
If we shall move to Machinery - Spain will die without a technological exchange

No big loss. When we arrive at other continents we can use their Alphabet to trade techs, we weren't going to study it ourselves. Spain has little of techs we need (like archery), researching Alphabet will be more expensive than researching techs themselves.

Masonry also, then :)

That's 17 turns of research vs 14 for Alphabet, and I'm not sure we'll need all this now. Not a reason to slow down Optics and scouting caravels, IMO.

I'd rather go for Forges instead of OReligion - the latter works for buildings only, not units, we need to spread religion and waste hammers on missionaries, it costs money but isn't needed everywhere and we will build forges in main cities nevertheless.

Edit: as for Kyoto, I'd go for Granary and Forge there, and maybe lighthouse in between.

-865 (1) Set Osaka Sheep to forest (+1 hammer). South warrior has seen one more source of iron near Tokyo. Spain archers goes to NE.

-850 (2) Barbs Warrior has appeared near Spain archers. Barbs archer at SE near our warrior.

-835 (3) On northern borders Spain archers and barbs warrior has disappeared from visible area. We see borders fourth Spain town (2 tile radius).
SE Warrior Has beaten barbs archer (1.1 health).

-820 (4) Barbs warrior (It's good, not archer) has unexpectedly appeared to the east of Osaka! We seen Cordoba.

Any comments?

Good so far. You might want to bring warrior from SE to Edo.
Spanish cities have neglected copper, and neither of them is good in production. We can capture and retain them, but they would be a lousy substitute for Lexadgrad, not achieving same level of production even between them. Good to see they built a quarry for us.

Also we see that our continent is small and the desert can be patroled by a couple of warriors, No more than 4 warriors required for fog-busting and some force to block Balbesgrad - and we're rid of barbs.
Also this means that Spain is almost out of settling land in the North, so it would either move South and occupy "our" lands or go offensive. It's right time for us after finishing the 2 buildings to get an army, we can't wait longer.

-790 (5) Spain founded Toledo to the north of Osaka. Antibarbs defense line changed. Sailing discovered. Machinery is next.
-775 (6) zzz
-760 (7) Seville has seen. 2 archers is guard.
-760 -745 -730(8-10) zzz
-715 (11) 44 hammers to Tokyo. Barcelona has seen. Size 2. Two archers is guard.
-730 (12) Forest has grown near barbs town. Light investigation: Size 2. 3 Archers.

Yellow line - light investigstion.
Red circle is danger point barbs invasion!

The new capital will appear through three turns. Key point!

After Tokyo borders will expanded, we haven't week places in antibarbs defense.

Good! So, Spaniards know sailing, but seem not to know IW (as they do not chop jungle) and even BW (as they do not have slavery and all their forests are intact). That explains alot.

Even the fact that Spain has wheat near Eastern city makes little difference for me. We need ports with strong production, and this has zero. Jewish holy city has good production potential - Stone and 2 hills - but no food to use it till Calendar. I'm still in favour of destroying both.

Barb city is ripe for taking. I'd build after palace in Osaka rax and 3 swords. That will be a good school for them (Combat I + CR I + CRII after kicking barbs leave no chances to Spain),

IL2T played extremely modest - he left others finish the good things he began ;)

Edit: I'd rather considered in more detail the development of Kyoto as we've got so 3 useful buildings, but as Dynamic is the next in the roster, we might as well relax here :D

Agree. Barrack should be! ;)

Cool, the barbarian city even got a Japanese name.

IL2T: The tile 1SE of clams was being deliberately kept fogged, in hope the barbarians found a city there for us. Have we now abandoned that plan?

It appears that the cities can support the following production when maxed out:

Lexadgrad 18
Yayoi 21
Cordoba 15
Seville 13

I'd say Yayoi is our Heroic Epic city if we ever get around to building one. Also, the two Spanish cities are not that awful. If using the desert copper is of importance, we can build another city 1SW of the copper to work it, the hill, and two floodplains.

Also this means that Spain is almost out of settling land in the North, so it would either move South and occupy "our" lands or go offensive. It's right time for us after finishing the 2 buildings to get an army, we can't wait longer.

Very much so.

We can just cottage the hell out of them (with captured workers) and be cashing in heaps of gold in no time.

Barbs warrior has appeared from this tile. If it be barbs archer then Edo could be raized! We don't have enough city defense now!

In fact we have 3 warriors within 2 turns reach of Edo.

The city-placements is key answer of discussion in the near future.
On our continent there are not enough places with good production.
Effective used slavery is necessary too!
