SGOTM 02 - Team CFR

- Machinery is due in 1 turn. After that we need to stop research and collect money for future 100% run. we need to find contacts first before choosing what to research. We should also fire scientists in Kyoto after Optics.

I don't like this idea. I think it would be better to research CoL. Because it will be a very big fortune if we'll trade it faster than ~20 turns.

Im also not that sure about stopping research, esp. as it is crucial for us to get castes ASAP.

Cover promotion has benefit while attacking Archers beyond cities...
Scientists in Kyoto could be moved to Water after 2-d GS will be born.

I promoted him against archers to capture Yayoi faster. First time I wanted to capture city in 2 turns but then change my mind.

Not full stop! Some turns 0% (~10 after Caravels builded) - some turns 100%.
Extremely MM... ;)

It's nessesary max used potential science exchange with other civs.

All swords are now heading to Barselona and Madrid. The worker should join that group and try to bait archers from those cities. Madrid is on a hill and has 50% culture defense. So just 4 swords may not be enough, even with 2 promotions. Actually I wanted to send a couple more swords north, just in case. Latter swords should indeed go to Cordoba and Seville.

Stopping research temporarily won't slow down our research at all in the long run, because we are very far from 100% research, so no research now means faster research afterwards. But if we start researching the wrong tech now we'll loose a lot of beakers. I think we can meet most of AI civs very soon by caravells from Kyoto. We have seen some civ's borders and other civs are likely to be on that same continent, so relatively soon we'll be able to tell which techs we can trade and which techs we have to learn ourselves.

Because we will use Scientists in Edo during science = 0% we must choose tech in any case. How about Alphabet?

Yes, Alphabet sounds best. It's not a big deal though, only 2 scienists (7 beakers).

BTW, there is nothing heard from Ptitsa for a while, and akots also seems to be away (he said he might need a skip). We need to sort out the roster and decide who plays next.

Ptitsa Last Activity: Aug 27, 2006 03:31 PM Msk
Yes, I read topic, but have no time to play.
Excuse me, but I must break my membership in our team... :(

Good luck, guys!

OK, sorry to see you leave.

The new roster:

Dynamic
CB
Obormot - just played
akots - skipped
Balbes - UP
Lexad - on deck
IL2T

Thanx for explanation, didn't catch the research cut was temporary. Alphabet is a bit off the route, but if we want to trade some techs we might as well research it and not count on AI having both Alphabet and Calendar or CoL.

[0] Inherited turn. Move workboat, press Enter.

[1] Machinery done. Research to 0%. Alphabet selected.
Edo builds sword, set to sword. Osaka builds sword, set to sword.
Newly captured worker near Osaka moves to cottage a floodplain. Isabella's archer is in pursuit. Worker near Edo moves to cottage a riverside grassland, prebuilds cottage on the way.
Workboat used.

[2] Isabella's archer moves into our borders. Nearby sword gets Cover, kills archer.
Northern battlegroup advances North, sees Spanish settler convoy (2 archers escorting). No moves left to intercept.
Yayoi mine ready, worker moves to chop the deer forest.
Tokyo grows to 3, whips a sword.

[3] Spanish settler convoy hides in Barcelona. Our swords get in position around the city.

[4] ...move troops...

[5] Spanish settler convoy exits Barcelona. Sword and axe kill escorts, capture settler. Two more swords storm Barcelona. 92 gold captured. 4 turns in resistance. Newly acquired worker moves north along with two undamaged swords, to serve as bait near Madrid.
Osaka builds sword, set to Library. Tokyo builds sword, set to Granary.

[6] Edo builds sword, set to Granary. We have 12 swordsmen.
Troops advancing on Madrid see Spanish worker building copper mine there. He runs and hides in Madrid.
Yayoi borders expand.

[7] ... move troops ...

[8] Spanish archer attacks out of Madrid, dies on our sword.
Worker moves next to Madrid to bait more archers, swords withdraw.
Plato born in Kyoto. Lightbulb Compass and Optics. Bismark is our neighbor SE of Kyoto. He does not know Alphabet. Open Borders signed.
Worker near Edo finishes riverside cottage, moves to build another.
Kyoto and Yayoi switch to caravels. In Yayoi, synchronized with chop to come in next turn.
Scientists fired in Kyoto.

[9] Isabella chose not to attack the bait worker. Builds another archer (not a poprush.)
Barcelona out of resistance, set to Granary.
Floodplain cottage done near Osaka. Citizen switched there from oasis.
Barbarian galley appears north of Kyoto.
Kyoto whips caravel. Yayoi whips caravel, will regrow back to size 2 next turn.
Western warrior moves to Edo for garrison duty.

[10] Isabella captures our bait worker. Our sword kills the archer.
More swords are approaching Madrid.
Osaka builds Library, set to Granary.
Caravel from Kyoto positioned for combat with the barb galley.
Our second battlegroup (6 swords) finishes assembling for the drive on Cordoba.

Nothing of much interest happened during the turnset. The next player should capture Madrid and Cordoba, explore with the caravels, and continue improving our lands. Forests are almost all gone, so next is cottages where needed, and mines.

And I'd say, great turnset! No copper, advantage near Madrid.

Bismark has GLighthouse...

Btw, of 7 fight you had, only 2 required City Raider :) Cover is the way! Also, the barb galley actually can't get to our fishes...

I'll write my plan later, perhaps tomorrow. So far I'm thinking of employing a scientist in Kyoto and rushing Alphabet to trade with Bismark and whoever he got Confucianism from. Also, for rushing GS under castes I would've irrigated 1 grass near Edo to get food for 4, not cottaged.
