Beijing is still having an artist, why?

I'm so annoyed with myself about this. I'd noticed the two artists here and was going to remove them, but I made the mistake of turning Culture down to 0% first. This meant one of the artists became an unhappy citizen; I removed the other manually, but once unhappiness decreased the angry artist went back to work - and I blindspotted him.

However, I made up for it elsewhere. I noticed Toku had some spare cash and so I renegotiated our cow deal with him for 7gpt extra. Sucker.

Then it was time to finish off the Chinese campaign. I only had one galleon nearby so I sent an initial group of healthy units to make the trip by land; the rest could be sent by galleon to join them after healing. Xian was lightly defended, but a Choccy was whipped in the city the turn after taking this screenshot, with a second LB appearing shortly after that, and of course the city was on a hill so it made more sense to just go for the easier target further north.

I did a bit of whipping as recommended by the resident MPW, and I've already related how we got the GE and lost the race to Physics to Mansa (it later turned out that he was in a Golden Age at the time...), so the only other thing worth mentioning in the first session was a little bit of diplomacy. Vicky wanted to exchange maps, but I haggled a bit and persuaded her to part with 40g as well. Then Alex arrived, flashing his breastplate and asking me to switch to Hereditary Rule. I asked him if he had a girlfriend yet.

Session 2 started with a bang...

Saladin demanded that we stop trading with the English (I refused, of course), and the other Saladman is apparently preparing for war - he has enough on his hands...

Physics revealed two sources of Uranium:

I've already displayed our stack in an earlier post, so the next player can declare war as soon as he wishes. However, don't forget about these fellows - it is always nice to get a free worker... :

Uh oh... Can Alex settle there? I'm forgetting my city placement logic, so this might be a non-issue. I assume those archers (and settler) were kicked out by our non-OB agreement with Alex.

What was the thinking on the Barracks and Theatre on those two new cities? (Just cause I want to learn).

Looks like some good stuff - Any time you can make some cash off tech sales on already known techs... well that just gravy. Course giving Music away fro just 40g... seems awful nice! She is a hotty tho, so I guess its ok ;)

BTW, anyone notice this:
Turn 289, 1394 AD: Montezuma has completed Versailles!

Iirc it has to be at least two tiles away from another city to settle so I don't think he can settle there. I was surprised too that Mao still would offer a city but that makes things a lot easier.

Hey guys you think Trash Team is done? If so we have to beat 1782. JC is preparing for war and I bet it's on Gandhi. Have fun namliaM

With the new and improved AI, I didnt think that was possible... WOW 11 GPT :)

A bit of a gold rush there... Giving away music for 40 gold ....
Looking for a girlfriend yourself Scowler ;)

Nope he cannot, 2 tiles minimum between 2 cities.

You read my mind.... tho what else to build, barracks => Units?

Hey, bump up Monty on the hit list :)

Got it

Gentlemen ...

 Yeah, alright, calm down, :crazyeye: yes, yes, ;) it IS the . :)

... I'm still alive and I've been following this thread from time to time. I just had to take some time off of CIV. Had to rethink my priorities - especially with the new head of clinic around since the beginning of '07.
Well, here I am. And even though I still have to do some "catching up" I am looking forward to the weekend. :D

namliaM, have a decent honeymoon! I've seen you around on skype a lot but I didn't contact you because of the given reason (see above).

Welcome back Mr Understatement. Good to read you again! :wavey:

Everyone else's alright in here?

Regards to all, .

Welcome back Dot.

Good to hear that Alex can't settle there, but we do need to make sure we can wipe out two units on the turn we declare war - just to keep Alex from pillaging the developed cottage or corn.

The build of Versailles combined with Monty's distance from us makes it a huge Cherry On Top target. I mean taking that city will singlehandledly resolve all sorts of distance maint costs. Yummy

Yes Wilkommen Dot and indeed Versailles makes Monty a target much sooner. Occasionally one can get more money out of these guys but seems more like a crapshoot now. Good job Scowler.

EDIT: Go for MM next I'd say we got to stop the tech whoring........

Agreed that MM is next - too bad he's on the opposite end of the continent with Monty tho. The Techs he's picking up are only going to hurt our domination. Hate to lose Hatty as a friendly AI though, she was votes in the bank (imo).

Tough choice between Monty vs. MM... I'd honestly be happy with either. (Too bad HC wasn't our choice du jour as he'd be an easy target to lead up to Monty.

Lets go with MM -> HC -> Monty. Assuming we can keep open borders with Hatty long enough to capture one or two HC cities.

EDIT:
Just looked at save. We have "spare" Gren in Chengdu that can make it close to Alex's bowmen/settler grouping in two turns (has movement available). Even tho it would leave us momentairly weak to a sudden attack by Mao from his new capital, we don't really have any other units close by that aren't the lone garrison unit for the city they're in...

I have the same sentiments Bob re Hatty and think she will be good for the votes and trading partner. Oddly enough history channel had a show on about her last night.

Without having access to the save from work (stupid work!), I can't talk to the relations between civs, but does Hatty like us more then HC/MM? Cause I'm wondering if it would be worth keeping her happy by buying her into war with one or the other. The one downside to remember is that being cultural, her borders will constantly choke off any border towns we take from HC/MM.

Here's the stats Bob:

Hatty: +8 (pleased)
HC: +5 (cautious)
MM: 0 (cautious)
JC: +6 (pleased)
Vicky: +7 (pleased)
Gandhi: +9 (pleased - PA partner??? will be easy to get to friendly)

This is the friendly bunch except for MM who is definitely not happy with us although remains at cautious.

Here is the rest:

Toku: +6 (cautious)
KK: +4 (cautious)
(we have a lot of negatives with him)
Louis: +1 (cautious)
Freddy: +3 (cautious)
Mao: -1 (annoyed)
Washington: +1 (cautious)
Izzy: +3 (cautious)
Sally: +1 (cautious)
Alex: -3 (annoyed)
Monty: -2 (annoyed)

Hope that helps and seeing that Hatty is one of the friendiest AI on our side as well as Gandhi we might want to reevaluate whether to attack her or not.

Looking at HC's lands too he's going to be a tough one to take on. MM has rifles now too so we should make haste and go after him next.

SO again the pleased block.
Hatty/cyrus/JC/Gandhi/Vicky

The cautious block:
HC/Toku/KK/Louis/Freddy/Washington/Izzy/Sally

The annoyed block:
Monty/Alex/Mao

This does not take into account for our declaration on Alex which will result in a negative with JC/Cyrus.

Yup, I noticed that MM had two rifles in his lone city on our main island. That in and of itself makes him target #1. We've got grens that are the counter to riflemen so lets use them fast.

Cosmic, you left Cyrus off your list of +- with us, but then mentioned he's in the pleased block. No worries, I'm just interested to know if Hatty is more then +8 with either HC or MM. If not, then we've got a slight upper hand and might be able to get her jumping in. Again, her culture borders will make for some immeadiate negatives both in relationship AND as they glob over our cities. I really want her on our side for voting, but I really dislike her as a neighbor.

Decisions, decisions. Well hopefully Namliam has taken some of this worry out of our hands and will be submitting a turnset soon showing us "the way".

Are PA's enabled?

Yes I see that I had it on my manual list (cyrus) but forgot to type it in. Cyrus is +7 with us. Also PA's are enabled and I suspect that's why Trash team has such a high score.

What is also intresting is the modifiers between the AIs, or... if say Gandhi were to run against us, who would vote for Gandhi and who would vote for us?
Or if we run against Hathy, how would those votes go?
I forget to check but last time I looked Toku was the one with the highest popultion = Our opponent... I think ONLY Gandhi likes the guy... I that case it would be a matter of getting people to vote at all, rather than abstaining.

I would like to remember everyone of a statement I made a long while back.... It is not only all about our votes, but all votes put together. At some point we may want to declare war only to pillage the hell out of the AIs infrastructure (farms and nets in particular). This will lower their population, thus lower their voting power => Increasing the friendly AI + our power

I have played my set to the finish, but it is allready 11pm and I have a long (last) day at work tomorrow :(
I took some 100 screenies that I need to process and did think up some strange plans, coincidentaly centering around Gandy as a PA partner... (yes PA is enabled). Dont know how workable that is... but that is up to you folks :)
The plan also revolves around Gandhi eventually growing like crazy ;) why suffer the upkeep ourselves if our PA can do it for us?

Just as a teaser, this is one of the first screenies I took....

Edit: I hope to get the report up tomorrow evening or if not... Thursday someplace (morning?)

by my clock he has... 2 more hours.

This will be an interesting ruling by the SGOTM PTB (if it comes to that)
