SGOTM 05 - Mac Team

Fortunately, lagging in tech won't be nearly as bad in this game because of the free beakers we get. I think if we concentrate on key techs, we'll be ok. Right now production is one of our big problems.

Finished Civil Service, got Metal Casting during anarchy for the switch to Bureaucracy, started on Machinery. Started a new city filling in a hole and picking up the bananas. Beshbalik made a workboat for Kurashan, it is heading there. We should try to get Karakoram to grow to its limits, it has a lot of nice tiles it could be working. Getting our cities bigger would also help on the costs for our units. Karakoram is building a Jewish Monastery, if it made a couple of missionaries that would help with border popping.

What's the next tech? I might go feudalism -> guilds for the military value. Suggestions?

We can get peace with India for Civil Service. Should we?

Alex has a city on the little island to our west, and its borders have popped. That means we can get to Toku's city there. Should we?

Maybe we can try Domination through accumulating vassals. ??? We need Feudalism to begin this. If we try, we need to whittle the AIs down to 2-3 cities. Saladin should be our first target and soon.

We would also need to start playing Warlords once we researched Feudalism.

I think we should tech towards Caravels. We really need something better for defense than the galleys. I forgot to mention that Toku has a caravel roaming around S-SW of our island, the galley below Beshbalik should be ready to run for cover.

Well, we just got Optics, so we should be able to build Caravels now.

Guilds sounds good to me - we also need it before we get Banking.

I think trading around Civil Service to anyone who will take is smart. China already has it, so he can trade it if we don't. So let's trade it to everyone and his brother, taking whatever they'll offer.

We can't trade CS, nobody who doesn't have it will trade with us, except Asoka, and the only thing we can get for it is peace. The question is: do we want that?

Good point about the caravels.

We also need more workers. Is there anything we don't need more of? :(

Nobody has an opinion on peace with Asoka? I'll probably leave us at war, then, unless I think peace will improve the WW situation significantly. I'll try to play tonight or tomorrow morning.

Played my set. Save here.

First the bad news. We lost the sugar island to our east. Near the end of my turnset a Spanish galleon showed up. I whipped a settler in Karakorum (sorry Welnic, didn't see a choice!), which would have saved it for us, but before the settler could get there, Alex's culture showed up there. The settler is near the "Clam City" sign on our island, so we could found a city there. That city could work the clams and would also give us a channel across our island, so I think it would be worth it. The galleon is now on the eastern end of our island.

Beyond that, not too much happened. I sent the existing workboat up to Ning-hsia, and switched its build to a courthouse. The courthouse could be whipped now, but I'm not sure it's worth it. We should probably let that city grow. We still need to build one more workboat somewhere.

Two new workers completed, and I started a third.

Per Welnic's suggestion, I picked optics after machinery finished, so we could build caravels. I used one of our existing galleys to explore to the east a bit, so Toku's cities there on on the map. One had longbow/samurai/cat, the other two longbows and a worker.

I will try to play in a few hours.

I'll found the 'clam city', finish the third worker, and continue with Optics.

I'll look into whipping the courthouse - one of my bad habits in SP is whipping too much, preventing my cities from growing. It's a bad habit :(

Anything I'm missing?

Chop jungle ;)

OKay, not much happened.

I didn't make peace with Asoke (he wanted CS), but I think that was a mistake. He's now attacking our compatriot stronghold in Persepolis. This is the last Barbarian city! Luckily I chose to knock out Feudalism (3 turns) so it's got Longbows defending.... Next player should sue for peace with Asoka, if at all possible.

Beshbalik will be able to grow after it completes the worker. I interrupted the worker for a workboat for New Sarai (clamtown).

We're working on Paper. I couldn't decide between that and Guilds (for Knights). But it seems like we've got some major economic woes, so I thought we might leave the military stuff for a bit.

Save is attached...

Sorry--been a hectic week work-wise.

I'll try to play tonight. It seems we have ongoing wars and infrastructure needs, and I will continue the current general strategy.
