SGOTM 06 - Misfits

No objections here...

Does anyone else thing Mailman ought to captain our team?

MF

EDIT: JerichoHill just signed up. I put in a pitch for him to give us a hand!

First of all, some bad news ... namliaM will probably not sign up for SGOTM07, as he already quit our 'normal' SG-game due to RL-problems ... just for info :( (link)

a closer knit team will help, so if you both enjoy his progress and are familiar with him, the better it is. no objections here.

'Enjoy his progress' :crazyeye: ... who am I to comment on his progress  As I said, in that other game, he knows what he talks about ...

'Familiar with him' ... ahem, no ... I only 'know' him from that 1 game ... but over the last few days, we had some sort of dialog, because the other team-members are a bit inactive atm, and again, he knows what he talks about, he's really active, he really seems to know Civ ... I think he could help us!

if everyone signs up again, a 6-7 man team seems to be a perfect size for this game, since we'll all get one turnset before the ai ravages us. LOL

Well, everyone (except namliaM) has signed up now! (everyone being Mastiff_of_Ar, maroWaker, you and me :)) ... that makes it 4 players, 5 with haphazard1 ... and looking at all those sign-up's of new players, I'm sure we'll be assigned another 1 or 2 players ...

As said above, I would be surprised if namliaM signs up ... but on the other hand, do we really need a captain? Did we need a captain in this game?

Yeah, saw your post. :goodjob: JerichoHill could really help us as well, I think.

Well, that's very sad about Nam... I wish him well.

So, now to PM JerichoHill and try and get him on board!

EDIT: JerichoHill is going to be a Misfit! [party]:band::banana:

And welcome, Haphazard! Do you have a shorter nickname? You can call me Mastiff, MoA, or MF... they all work! :crazyeye:

Hello, Misfits!

Thanks to ChrisFromLux for inviting me to join you for SGOTM7, and to everyone for agreeing. I look forward to the challenge of OCC at Deity.

To introduce myself, I currently am working on getting comfortable at Monarch. ("Comfortable" for me meaning consistent victories. :D ) I tend to be more of a builder than a warmonger, and have mostly played CE. I have been trying to get more familiar with the SE approach, and more aggressive with my military, and have been working on both in an SG with Chris and namliaM.

I will update my sign up post shortly -- not sure if I should edit the original, or put up a new post with the change. Maybe both, and link to one from the other?

Thanks again for having me on the team! Onward to victory! :king:

You can pretty much copy paste that intro into what i am currently working on, so i got a good idea of you just from that. So glad to have you aboard, looking forward to this hectic game we shall play.

Looks like Jericohill is also joining us, so our roster seems complete.

On a tagental note, i may have to bump myself to lurker status depending on how my move into my new house goes. However, i dont think it will be an issue, since i have access to the net @ work, and about 20 flash drives for porting the saves, but i'll keep you posted if i will be unable to play turnsets.

Yo.

I appreciate the invite, been awhile since I've done succession games, but I did a few when CIV was just CIV, before the expansions and zombie panic came out.

Someone really needs to mod a zombie scenario for civ.

Anyways, looks like a solid all around team, and I look forward to helping out however I can. For those of you who don't know me, I'm best at economy, barb/AI military behavior, and teching. My playstyle for XOTM is that I let the map dictate my ideal victory condition. What I'm worst at is full out warmongering...but I've been practicing, and I've got two immortal XOTM wins under my belt in the last few months.

Sorry to see mailman leave. He's so good I know him by his anagram.

That reminds me! I have an article to write about having the AI place the perfect city for you!

Yes, for me too. Except that I'm already using my military quite aggressive, if I think it's worth it, but I've got to learn on how to use it successfully, and how to avoid being stuck in a war for ~4000 years :crazyeye:

Putting up a new post should probably be the most secure way to do it, to make sure the Admins see it ...

Probably, but not necessarly. There are a lot of new players signing up, who don't have teams to join, so we may get another player. Or they'll make some more teams ... time will tell :)

And another Welcome! :hatsoff:

:goodjob:, that's already 2 more than I have :(

Well, just to make it clear: the game he left was a 'normal' SG-game ... for SGOTM07, he simply didn't sign up yet. So he may still join in (probably not, though :()

But I hope his problems are solved for the longer BtS(?)-SGOTM08, after this shorter SGOTM07 (hopefully not too short, though :D)

Oh, true, I still can't believe that really worked

Hi Team,

Thought I would start discussion about our strategy. I have 1 tiny diety panagea win in the HOF settings. But that was against 3 rivals with an ancient UU. We have what, 18 rivals? Ugh.

First, let's go for a cultural victory! ... Oh...err...wait. One City Challenge. Darn. Scratch that.

Well, we can be peaceful and build a spaceship...in our one city, before the Diety AI does....HAHA! No.

So right off the bat, that's two VCs down. Looks like we're going to have to get dirty, and that's right Ms. Aguilera, I want to get dirty. Plus, awards are given by fastest VC date, so that's conquest BABY!

So we're Qin, so we get bonuses on building wonders and we do pretty good with our finances. The map design looks good for this.

We're on a freshwater grassy hill, with two crabby resources, coastline access, stone and marble, and fur. Two grassy hills that we can mine. There doesn't appear to be a disadvantage to settling in place, and we know we're crowded on this map.

First Choice would be to move the Warrior 1 NE or 1 SW or 1 SE. But I think the map speaks to settling in place, except that its tiny and we could take out a few civs if we settled close to them and used our culture to auto-destroy them.

I would vote for moving the Warrior 1 SW because my spidey sense asks "Coast?"

If we settled in place, I get that the full city would have, with improvements, a size 20 pop, 83coin, 15hammer. We'd obviously want to have a few workshops to our hammers.

As for military, since we have our ChokuNuts, we'd actually want archery to build alot of units, because I could see us taking down alot of civs with our 3 First Strike Collaral Damage Choku's, if we tech fast.

There are also other civs on other continents.

So, there's my first thoughts. The cultural auto-raze option for our continents sounds evil.

Alternatively, we could be nice (somewhat), build the UN, and win diplomatically. But I worry about diety AI teching away. Perhaps we kill the civs on the other continent while being nice to the ones nearest to us?

Thoughts?

Thought I would start discussion about our strategy.

Ahem, I'm not sure we should start the discussions for SGOTM07 in the SGOTM06-thread, because:
- anybody could read this thread, and steal our glorious ideas :crazyeye:
- should we have some other, new team-members, they won't be able to join these first, important discussions and/or would have to catch up on a lot of posts, probably

Comments?

Any idea when we'll see team threads opened?

You're probably right about real discussion, though. I already responded to JerichoHill's post -- do you think I should remove my reply? (Not that I've said anything that impressive....)

i'd remove both post simple due to the rules about spoilers. While nothing pregame is a spoiler, we also do have others lurking this thread at this time. And any thing they read here can help them, even if its the most obvious.

Nah, we should start posting bad info! :D

Sorry yall,

My Sister in law (30 yrs of age) was admitted -in critical condition- in Hospital last Tuesday April 8th.

I am sad to inform you that she was "given up" on Friday 11, due to to much damage to her brain. She slipped away quietly later that afternoon.

Been busy arranging stuff and running around. Things should quiet down from here on in, tho things are obviously still far from normal...

I will not be joining any games for a while tho...

Thank all for understanding and thanks for thinking I will be missed...

namliaM out *and off to yet more stuff*

Oh my God!

I don't know what to say except offering you my sincere, heartfelt condolences!

You can be sure to be missed, and I hope to see you back here some day.

Chris
