SGOTM 07 - Chokonuts

I'm going to play tomorrow.

I think we should bulb education.
We can build market or coloseum for 1 extra happiness, and be able to crank out one more scientist, by working the deer instead of the water tile. Any thoughts?
I'm going to map trade as much as I can when we get paper, and keep a close eye on trading possibilities.
Education, Philosophy and Liberalism, as research path, if trade is good, and we get a scientist.

Im not sure building market or coloseum is worth it. With current configuration will take 12 turns (Coloseum) and more for market. To better this would mean cutting back on science. JC may be able to sought out his gold problem, and he also has Drama so hopefully this should be available for trade soon then we can build theatre and Globe Theatre.

I agree, at this stage we shouldn't be building stuff that we don't need long term, markets and colosseums don't have any long term value. Hopefully soon, we can build uni/oxford/theatre/globe (in that order).

Make sure not to trade Paper until after we have Education and Philosophy and have started Liberalism. Sci Method from Liberalism would be nice but probably not an option since we lost Glibrary, Astronomy is our next best option I think (more beakers than Printing Press) so we need to trade up to here.

If we are going to bulb education we should be safe to trade paper but I agree not to trade Education to anyone until we are probably half way through Lib.

I disagree. For some reason the vanilla AI won't prioritise researching Paper but if the have Paper, they will prioritise researching Education and if they can they will research Liberalism. We should be all right with trading Paper and Philosoph and maybe Education when we are researching Liberalism. At this stage we don't need any techs (except Drama which hopefull we can get for Paper or Philosophy) as we will be building uni/oxford/theatre/globe, only at the end of the Liberalism research do we need to do any trading. These builds are going to take us a while so we're not in a hurry to trade. We can catch up quickly later.

I played halfway thru, got wales from Elizabeth, so we're at size 10.

I stopped because our war is over, and I wanted to get some opinions on the next target.

I think we could join both the wars that are on the continent, and then try to get some more into them.
Any thoughts?

I think we need our scout to do some investigating before we make any decisions. The only gain we could make from Buddhist war is if we could get someone to finish off Izzy as she has only one city, but I think that maybe for later.
I think the best we can do in the war between HC and Fred is to try and get them to kiss and make-up. I cant see either gaining any lasting advantage for the moment as both have Feudalism and neither have maces. I dont see HC as potential PA partner so I would say we can safely ignore any pleas from him. The problem would come if we receive pleas from Fred. Knocking him back would cause slight diplo penalty with him. However agreeing could put us in delicate situation. Neither Asoka, Liz or Wash will currently agree to war with HC currently and without them I dont think we should get involved. HC has OB with Asoka so he could in theory sneak an attack force to us. If Hc loses Tiwanku which out of his two cities he is most likely to he will by default revolt to Hindu as that is currently only religion in his capital which would give him diplo bonus with all other Hindhu states near us :(.
I would only get involved if we can get Asoka or Wash involved (they are only mace capable civs currently) and Izzy uses one of her buddhist missionaries to spread to Cuzco and if we realistically see Fred as PA partner.

As to the forge in normal game I would be screaming out as to why not built yet, but it would give us 1 unhealthy if this gives us unhealthiness then definitely no, if we can incorporate it then maybe (remember we will probably lose the clams to Liz sometime soon) but we need to start now as once we have education we need focus on uni and oxford.

How many turns in and how did it end (can't load the save currently)? I would just wait 10 and get Asoka back against Tokogawa (assuming the war didn't end with his destruction).

Agree with mighty about the forge, yes if we have no unhealthy from it, as it will help with the big builds coming up.

Kyoto was captured by the Germans 5 turns in.

What a bummer. Fred's unit that took Asoka was his onl unit there and has a strength of 1.3. Asoka had more troops but probably attacked before Fred allowing him to take the city. That weakens us a bit but we're still going great.

I would suggest we stay away from the Fred/HC war and just see what plays out for the moment. We have 18 turns shared war with Asoka/Fred and Washington. I'd say 22 turns of DP with Asoka or Fred (maybe both) and we see who is more advanced and PA with them. Hopefully someone has Military Tradition for trade in the future.

Tech wise, we're going great. Another GP in a few turns. I'd merge them all from here. After Education Philosophy and see what we can trade a round while we research Liberalism.

Another thing, we can sell some junk techs to the backwards AI (Alex I'm mainly looking at you). Get some +ve diplo and cash.

When the AI on the other continent turn up, make sure you trade them (or even sell or gift them) a tech when we first meet them as we get a +4 diplo rating.

The GOTM pages appear to be down, I can't load them. So for now I'll just post in the thread.

Preturn: Zzz

Turn 1: Ceasar want's literature, I don't want to get on his bad side, so I agree. Tokugawa and Washington makes peace.

Turn 2: Ceasar is in a demanding mood, now he wants us to join his war agains Kublai Kahn, I say no this time, I don't want to spoil our relations with the other civs, and I don't recall how they're standing with Kublai.
And right as I say no, Kublai wants CoL, I think we'll pass, he's allready pissed at us, no reason to make it better :-)

Turn 3: Isaac Newton is born, just what we wanted. Elizabeth has whale for sale, I give her our sheep, and we're at 10/10 health/happiness. Let the city grow.

Turn 4: Issac will bulb education, it is done, and education is in 6. Someone is beating on Tokugawa, he is down to one archer.

Turn 5: Frederick grabs Kyoto, and Tokugawa is gone. Time to look for a new war. And we're size 10.

Turn 6: Huayna Capac wants us to attack Frederick, in your dreams.

Turn 7: Trades Literature to Alexander for 60 gold.

Turn 8: Zzz

Turn 9: Isabella wants us to join in her war against Kublai Kahn, we decline.

Turn 10: Huayna Capac wants paper for compass and 120 gold, that trade can wait. Paper is in Philosophy is next. Switched to University. It looks like Frederick has a hard time taking care of Huayna.

Postturn: University is in 15 and Philosophy in 7 with 6 scientists. With no scientists, it is uni in 5 and philo in 9. I've left it without any scientists.
I didn't find any other interesting trades, I didn't want to trade with Huayna, no reason to make Frederick mad.

Firing the scientists and working the hills is the right choice. We're way ahead in the Liberalism race, so lets get those buildings built. When Oxford is nearly done look for a trade for Drama if one is out there. If not, employ some scientists again and build a forge.

ngraner is UP but hasn't been around for a while. If he doesn't grab it in 24 hours, cubbies is back on.
