SGOTM 07 - Maintenance Thread

I can confirm that some teams have been able to open their start files. I created all the Windows files the same way, and during the same session, so they should all be identical except for the team names branded into them.

Any problems opening the file are therefore likely to be due to a specific configuration problem in your software.

Hi!

Is it allowed to make a test map after moving the warrior based on the new screenshot? (turn 0) This feels a bit like cheating.

Test maps are allowed at any point in the game. I'm not a fan of test maps personally, but I guess if you disallowed them, you'd have to disallow any modelling of the current position - in Excel or whatever.

I'm ready to ask AlanH about one thing. Do AIes got stone from the start? If do, then all teams are victims. (wow! it looks like a poem!)

I feel there should be some limitations. Hypothetically, one could make a test map every now and then and it would be in effect almost the same as reloading.

Well, I suppose people don't use it much later in the game. Besides, isn't it fun when the deity AI declares war right out of the blue?

disagree! Test map do not have real game history. And so there is no sense to build test map in a middle of a game.

I have no idea. And if I did, I wouldn't tell you! However, please note: I did warn you that, in the event of no one winning the prizes would be awarded for the longest survivals

I also disagree, for two reasons.

First, test maps have no history and don't have the same random seed number.

Second, it's completely unenforceable. It's almost always a bad idea to make rules that can't be enforced.

@Alan - Using either IE 7 or Firefox the file list is chopped off on the right hand side as shown in the SS below. Is there any chance you can resolve the problem?

Spoiler file list :

1. The scroll bar at the bottom is there to allow you to see the right hand part of the table if you have a narrow screen size.

2. The list of saves should not be a regular place for you to visit as a team member. You should not be going back to look at old saves during the game.

3. I'll see what I can do.

Huh? I know we shouldn't load old saves, but I looked at the list of saves often in the last SGOTM. It was interesting to see how often the various teams were stopping, and when they stopped. That's OK, isn't it?

Sure. All I'm saying is I doubt if it's the most frequently visited option on the page. As such, having to scroll right on a small screen isn't the end of the world .... is it?

Please note that the list of saves gets wider as there are more teams. It may be possible to scale everything so that it fits for this game, but there's no guarantee that it will still work when there are more teams.

[UPDATE] I've squashed it to fit narrow screens. I think it looks like a dog's breakfast, but you guys are the customers, and so you are always right ...

I must admit I got a bit confused. There was the scroll bar for the saves table as well as a scroll bar for the entire screen immediately below. Unfortunately I was moving the scroll bar for the entire screen and of course I couldn't see the rest of the table which was why I raised the post.

Regrettably IE 7 has a scroll bar the entire length of the screen on the right hand side of that screen which doesn't help. Thank you for your work Alan.

I'm having problems.

I don't have BTS. I have Warlords. I have the latest HOF.

I tried to open the file. I get a note that assets are protected...I click OK and game crashes. Help?
