SGOTM 07 - Maintenance Thread

The start date only works for the "List of Saves" option. Note how it says "Start file list at:".

Please try to complete this game within three months of the start date.

The current games and their submission deadlines are:
C-IV SGOTM 07 355 days 17 hours

Well, this isn't going to make people hurry. :)

Seriously, isn't this too much? So if a team does finish in three months, they will have to wait for 9 months for final results? :crazyeye:
You should also think about the audience. Poor lurkers!

This is SGOTY or SGOTM? I suggest cutting the deadline to 4-6 months.

Sorry, the deadlines on that page are supposed to be the monthly games only. SGOTM slipped in there. The original target of three months remains the objective.

Nice to see that someone's paying attention, though

The truth is I used to set the "finish date" in the database to the expected end date for SGOTMs. I got caught out once or twice, when that date expired before the game was finished, and the full statistics and results were released prematurely.

So I now set the finish date in the database a year ahead so that, even if I forget to update it, it's very unlikely to result in a premature release ... of full and final game details.

Then I set up a quick and dirty addition to the home page that listed the finish dates for current games, and my database filter failed to exclude the SGOTMs.

I can't load the save either.

Hi,
I have downloaded the save into the proper directory. No problem. But when I go to that directory from Civ4 vanilla using HOF MOD 1.74.002 with BtS DLL's, I don't see it in that directory.

Why? Well, a quick check with Explorer shows me that this download does not have the correct file extension *.Civ4SavedGame but is instead an unrecognizable file type.

I used the "rename" function in explorer to add the correct file extension, and then I can open it from within the game, and everything appears in order.

My question is: Does my re-naming this file by adding the correct file extension constitute a problem for the SGOTM in any way? Will it work as normal? Obviously if I were to play any moves and save it, the new save would contain the correct file ext. So why doesn't the download file have that? Is it something that happens during an upload, or some bug that my system alone is experiencing?

I have not played any turns or moved in the save I downloaded, but at some point I will be playing turns for my team. So I'd like to have this resolved before then. Is it OK to do what I did (add file extension .Civ4SavedGame) to the download?

If you display Properties for the downloaded file, what file extension does it have?

If you hover your mouse over the download link on the Progress and Results page you should see the file name that will be downloaded when you click the link. All of them are *.Civ4SavedGame files. So if it has a different extension when it arrives at your computer then it's your computer that renamed it. What version of Windows are you using, and what browser?

Have you checked the note at the bottom of that page, and tried right clicking the link to select "Save linked file as ..." or equivalent?

As long as you are confident that the save is downloaded from the correct SGOTM 07 page, and is the one for your team, it should be OK.

It hasn't been reported by anyone else, so unless everyone is living with it and not complaining, I would say this is probably a problem with your system.

See above.

Thx. When I check from this computer, the save file has the right extension. But I play on a different computer, so I'll have to check there. That computer uses older OPsys and Explorer versions, so maybe that is the problem. It appears as if file name is truncated when downloaded - never had problem before on XOTM's, but those file names are a lot shorter. I will check version numbers and so on when I get the chance.

Glad to know this shouldn't stop me from participating!

It appears as if file name is truncated when downloaded
I doubt if it's the OS. It wouldn't even support Civ4 if it couldn't handle file name extensions as long as these. More than likely it's your browser.

"Unusual_Suspects_SG007_BC1480_01" is the file name and the file type is "fil". Normally in the properties it would say file type "saved game" opens with "Civ4".

I'm using Windows XP v 5.1 with Internet Explorer v 6.026 for what its worth. As far as I can tell, the file isn't altered in any way, and the HOF mod seems to like it, so I'm not goingto spend any substantial effort trying to figure it out since I can get it to work by adding the .Civ4SavedGame extension. The gods of cyberspace are simply mocking us.

IE 6 should work fine. My guess is there's a screwed up setting somewhere. The file name is not displaying the file extension.

The pictures I uploaded for SGTOM where deleted… anyone know why… I didn't delete them…

Too many attachments! I think you can only have five or so.

What!… I had more than five when I played last time in the STGOM way more than 5 and they where never deleted… is it because I used the link
rather then the manage attachment field?

Indeed....

I've reported it to Thunderfall.

Meanwhile please use team thread post attachments if you need to transfer files, and upload them later when the server is restored.

[UPDATE] The server is back in business as far as I can tell.
