SGOTM 09 - Team CFR

Calculation shows we will launch on 150 even with only 1 GS from 2 left GP.
And we can save some forests if build Broadway with GE in Knossos. In this case overflow will save 2 Forests. No matter, of course...
Now it looks like if we could calculate our finish better we could try launch on 149 but without any reserve and with ideal GP and money from AI. But now it's impossible, I think, Thebes can't prebuild well...

After some calculations I think we have a chance for launch on turn 149... We didn't prepare to it so it will be cruel. Many Cities will starve, but we still depend on 2 GS and money from AI. Will see.

Played next 4 turns, all by the last Plan, cruel starvation...
Both GP were GS, we also captured 3d barb city and gifted in to Justy.
It's hard to say now at 100% but it looks like we will launch on turn 149 (3 turns left).

Starving to empty granaries for the next 2 turns, then starv even to death if required, but we seem to squeeze through. Will double check.

Forget to write... after turn 142 we researched Fission(1), Computers(2), Fiber Optics(1). Next will be Fusion(1) and Ecology(1). Very nice to see such speed with only 18 cities without corporations... This is quick...

On current turn we can get ~3580 bpt with 0 money balance. Most of cities are preparing to the starvation on the next turn if need. But if we will get ~100 gold on the next turn we will have enough science for prevent starvation except Thebes and Sparta. We also wait for Gems (from Shaka for Iron) on the next turn.

Launched on turn 149, finish on turn 155.
2 turns before finish Apostolic Palace required to stop trading with Shaka... Defy.. -5 faces... no matter.

And I captured Atlantis for Fun. :)

Waiting for AlanH...

Well done CFR :goodjob:

You can go and look at the other team threads now. Please don't post in any until they have finished.

Remember that you will not see your final save displayed in the Progress Page until the game is finished.

Congrats, CFR! Very well played!

Could one of you Russian-speaking folk take a look at CRC's Russian thread, and tell us how they are doing, please? There's only so much Google Translate can tell.

Thanx!

They are doing very good, as we can see from their save :) Expect them to get gold. Go, comrades!

Yes, things don't look very good for us. AT 1060AD we are about even in the total number of beakers researched (we have genetics while CRC has Electricity and Rifling), but CRC's tech rate is higher then ours (1350 beakers vs 1000 beakers per turn), their cities are more developed and they are going to get a couple more good cities from Joao. I expect that they are going to beat our date.

Somehow they managed to get Biology (after Rifling) several turns ahead of us (while we skipped Rifling). They built the Pyramids and they launched their GA before biology, and there might have been more factors. It would be interesting to do an analysis their game between 1AD and 500AD.

It looks like we made a noob mistake saving too many forest tiles, our mid-game expansion was too slow. CRC chopped most non-capital forests and will have to face more happiness problems, but it is clear that it was well worth it.

Also we seem to be the only team that failed to see the option of getting early paratroopers. In fact we did discuss the possibility of getting early Rifling to build rifles (which we decided were not good enough to justify the detour from the biology beeline), but nobody saw that rifling will also enable paratrropers. Our war with maces went good enough thanks to our trick of settling a city close to Hammy's capital and culture-flipping his tile within 2 turns from the capital. But it does look like that wars with paratrropers were the better option.

I didn't read your thread yet, but your graph shows you conquered the world... :)

Yes, my team is a bunch of crazy warmongers :mischief:
I insisted on concentrating all efforts on cathedrals and culture, but nobody listened

Congratulations CFR, one and all!!!

Great game. Different than ours. You bunch of long-haired, flower-powered peaceniks! ;)

I read your thread and the first few pages were quite good. Then any discussion kind of petered out. I guess I agree most with this post:
No, it is very easy. Just don't use it, simple as that. You can refer to Team CFR's threads in past SGOTMs and e.g. Murky Waters' threads in recents SGOTMs for several examples of a team that discussed everything at this forum and still managed to win, somehow, all the while doing a valuable community service. In comparison, this thread looks almost entirely devoid of content.
That was Balbes' last post. Did you kick him off the team for insubordination?

Thanks, LowtherCastle!

No, Balbes disappeared himself.

We were fallen to usability of skype chat... sorry.

Yes, and the most common post was "You were playing for 4 years not knowing that?"

There goes our hard earned (in SGOTM 2 & 5 ) reputation of being the meanest warmongers. :( Thats what you get for putting Dynamic in charge.

Well Balbes disappeared and there was nothing heard from him for quite some time; then he posted his complaints, and disappeared again. If he had returned, we would have tried to move our discussion to CFC as he was in a different time zone and couldn't use the online chat, but he didn't. Not sure what format we would have come up with in that case, since discussing everything in english could be very difficult for several other team members.

I do really feel bad for not sharing our discussion with the other teams and spectators. I think I will try to do a detailed summary of our discussion and post it here, but its not an easy task, so I cannot promiss anything.

That would be highly appreciated
