SGOTM 10 - One Short Straw

I don't really remember the play order at this point but given the time we have left, whoever has time should probably pick it up. Sounds like we're barely surviving here. I would broker peace by selling techs. We really can't afford to drag the war on and we need caste system for our economy to function.

O.K. I can post a plan tomorrow morning and play Friday evening/Saturday morning if that is allright with the team.

^^ I won't be able to reply from tomorow morning till monday night. I trust the team though :)

PPP:

Give Gandhi whatever techs he wants for peace, preferably printing press/liberalism, but add nationalism if this isn't enough.

Revolt to caste system/pacifism.

Moscow:
settler (to found 2 silver/fish/iron city with musket)
bank
market
send 1 worker to chop forest to S.

St Petersburg:
bank
send 1 worker from Moscow to hook up elephants

Yaroslav:
finish courthouse
market
Maximise GPP production.

Yektarinburg:
galley (to transport worker +musket to silver city) I'll probably send a second worker later
market

Novogrod:
bank
send 1 worker here to repair farm/ hook up second furs

Yakutsk:
courthouse
library
bank

Techs:
finish scientific method, start communism

Trade printing press to Rooservelt for economics and 120 gold.

If by chance we get a GE as our next GP and the Taj is still avaiable I suggest we build it, otherwise save the GP.

If Gandhi demands techs/gold/stop trading with an enemy I think we should give in to him.

I've played. Fortunatly nothing unexpected happened this time.

A few stray thoughts:

Churchill will trade us astro+replaceable parts for chemistry and scientific method. As a GS will bulb astro before physics I suggest we make this trade.

Nukes our very expensive, we will need ironworks and factories to make them efficiently so on second thoughts teching steel/assembly line might be more efficeient as it would allow us to get the factories up earlier.

After the grocer we have nothing immediatly useful to build in the capital so we might try for the Taj, if we lose it the gold could still fund deficit research.

:goodjob: Finally an uneventful set. :) I'll have a look at the save tonight...

That trade sounds iffy. Would we be teching Physics pre-Bio? In testing I found RP really easy to trade for later. I'd rather just get the rest of Astro for Chem, and get some gold to boot - if possible.

Is there any way we can efficiently spread Gandhi's religion? Seems like a total chore, but we're still a long way from nukes... No, I guess not. We just obsoleted monasteries, and a revolt to OR right now would be ridiculous.

Spreading Gandhi's religion isn't worth it. He's in FR anyways, it seems.

I think RP can wait.

How many pop do we need to whip a tactical nuke? Remember that we'll need time to build Manhattan anyways, so I think it's better to tech fission then go get the production base, but I'm not 100% convinced it's more efficient that way.

This is tricky spot. I would consider giving DG and Mao Liberalism for whatever cash they have. With any luck, they'll go FR and open up trading opportunities. Astro for GP or PP would be awesome, but that might take some turns. Are we teching Bio? I'd say it's questionable at best. We don't have a particularly good NP site. From here, we have something like >20k beakers left to Fission, the same to Rocketry after that (minus stuff we might trade for), and about 20k to AL/Indu/Fasc, plus Bio on the side. I think the Fission beeline should be the best choice atm.

Could someone play a mini-set and just get through the revolt, so it's easier to see the exact benefit of SP?

Didn't pay attention: do we have a 10xp unit now? Somehow doubt it... Barbs down by silver hopefully?

Who is up next? We need to get a move on.

We don't have a 10XP unit at the moment but we have a couple of 8XP units on the mainland we can send over to the barb continent.

RRRaskolnikov is up, but I think anyone who has the time should take it at this point. We do need to bust a move. I'm not sure I can play before the weekend.

Got it... Will post a PPP this evening, plan is to play tomorow night. :)

fully agree.

Because we need to build Manhattan first and we have limited number of cities, I would still go AL first. Once Manhattan completes, we will be able to go full nukes this way. I am not sure beakers are the limiting factor, maybe hammers are more important. Furthermore, teching will be faster once factories are up (we have few buildings left to build so we can build gold/beakers). As our GPP come from seafood, I would skip biology though.

I am not sure of the trades yet. Seems like a waste to trade for astro now.

Will switch in SP going back home, is there any other civic we want to adopt? Caste/pacifism if we aren't running them already?
What is the plan for great spy? GA coupled with a scientist? If yes, when?

Cheers,
Ras

I think beakers ARE the limiting factor. We're not teching particularly fast and there's not that much room left for improvement. I'd vote for teching the bare minimum for nukes. This unfortunately means we need to take a bad trade for astro immediately, as it unlocks Physics.

I just don't think factories adding to wealth/research building will justify the beakers spent on AL. With wealth-building under SP we'd average maybe >500bpt for the rest of the game. That still puts us at 80t from nukes (maybe 60-70 with some growth, bulbing and some trades), which is somewhere in the neighborhood of 1875-1900 AD. By that point, the AIs will definitely have AL. I think we can just extort it from Gandhi after taking his mainland.

EDIT: We're running Rep/Bureau/Caste/Merc/Pac atm. I don't think we need to switch anything else.

good points... I am switching in SP, then I will post a plan and the save :)

OK new save up. Gandhi settled a new city ibt. I switched some citizens to grow our cities. working on something looking as a plan right now :scan:
