SGOTM 10 - Xteam

Yes, seeing how galleys can't enter ocean, we should try suicide runs with Curraghs to make contact so GLight makes sense.
On emperor, I can usually stay up with the tech pace until I'm ready to :hammer:

I'll try some spreadsheet work later. Time for some :sleep: now...

Well, I just turned 50, you can't expect me to remember everything!
:lol: :lol: :lol:

In that case, perhaps Sir Bugsy would like to kick us off?
Two aging Navy guys on the same team - watch out world! Good thing we have our resident Army dude to help us out of all the trouble we'll get in.

I can lead off. Looks like there will be plenty of instruction on what to do. The game is supposed to be up at midnight this evening I think. What time zone? I'm on Pacific Daylight Time at the moment.

Anchors aweigh, I think. Actually, I am an Army vet as well, a long time ago in a land far, far away... :blush:

Alan's post said the save would be out at midnight, server local time. I think that is Central Standard or Daylight time, iirc? I think that means about 11 PM your local, give or take. :crazyeye:

I have a good friend who served in the Norweigian Army.

Did he wear bearskin armor and swing wildly with an iron sword? ;) That's how far back I prolly go... :mischief:

Norway is The Capt.'s territory. I'm red, white and blue... :cool:

Sorry I got you and the good Cap'n mixed up. I'm drunk on the blood of our enemies in a "whoops, wrong SG flashback" (TM). Bugs and Mistfit are in that particular slugfest with me.

So where were you last stationed? And did they load your rucksack with "90 pounds of lightweight equipment"?

@Team: sorry for the double-post.

@Gyathaar: :wavey:

Soo..we're about to kick off a nice little alliance among some Norweigians and Americans. My Norweigian friend Otto has some interesting comments on "other nations".... and I think I'll share those thoughts here...since the last might help us in this game.

My friend says that the two most predictable people in the world are Germans and Americans. He says Germans "...always follow the rules. It doesn't matter how stupid the rule is, Germans can be counted on to follow the rules. Americans are just as predictable. They'll always follow the money."

On the English, he'll ask: "Do you know why the English have such a great maritime tradition? Because they had to get off the stinkin' island to get a decent meal."

So with that in mind... I say we focus on gold (research, ugly Americans "following the money") and... if we're on an island...

Lets' go get a decent meal.

My "terminal" assignment was in USAREUR HQ. Most of them there had forgotten what a rucksack was!! ;) :mischief: :rolleyes:
I tried real hard to remind them though...

I'm with you in this game though, develop some gold:gold: , get research moving and expend like hell, or at least until we meet someone to conquer... :viking:
Unless we think they can do us a whole lot of good, then we "could" play nice for a while? :rolleyes:

But I am stuck on getting our "scoutsout", in the form of some curraghs to figure out who is where as soon as we can. Suicide curraghs as needed... :suicide:

We're still running conscription so most of us have been called up at one time or another. I've done my bit as well (although it was a poor excuse for military service, I spent most of my time in a car waiting to drive equipment around camp ;)).

Proposed opening moves:

Believe it or not, I dreamt about this game last night. We were not isolated from the Barbarian nation! :eek: In this dream-world version of the game, all the world was one long, snakey pangea, with the barbs in the middle, us at one end, and the other civs crowded at the other end, killing each other and leaving us to the mercy of the barbs. :crazyeye: barbs who had tanks before we had rifles. :suicide:

Not that I'm going to suggest making any plans based on this. :lol: The night before, I dreamt that one of my (least liked) law school professors was an evil villian in a world that desparately needed a super hero. :sad: I had the ability to fly :woohoo: , but it took all my efforts to protect my friend's infant son; I couldn't help anyone else. :rolleyes: But the ability to fly really came in handy when having to escape from an attic window! :p

(And in case anyone needs the black letter law, here it is: I cannot fly. Therefore my dreams are unreliable. Therefore, nothing in the above dream about this game should affect the play of the game. :) )

Let's see if I remember Civ3 right now...
Irrigated Grass Wheat in Despo = 2 (Grass) + 2 (Wheat) + 1 (Irrigation) - 1 (Despo) --> 4
Irrigated Games Plain in Despo = 1 (Plains) + 2 (Game) + 1 (Irrigation) - 1 (Despo) --> 3

Looks like +5 food to me ;) [pimp] :rockon:

Cracker's Open Play Guide did not have the Game Plain tile listed. I had previously noted that grass games give you 4/0 irrigated or 3/1 mined so your 3/1 call for the plain sounds about right. That will indeed give us +5 fpt. Now if we just have places to put them. Being seafaring we want alot of coastal towns for the commerce.

We survived most of the last AW game in Republic do we want to push for the slingshot? We start with Alpha so that is helpful.

@leif - I missed the maintenance thread completely. I probably do need to dl the mod since we have been playing in III. I'll get it done today.

Roster looks fine to me.

But it does sound like a dream log should be kept and posted. BTW, what were eating and/or drinking before bed??

I agree with the Captain's log, except I think we need a warrior after the first curragh. Might need him to protect our workers. Combined arms works well.

I'll play in a bit.

an assortment of snacks from Trader Joe's and my Dad's sour cherry wine. :mischief: I also graduated yesterday and am moving to Chicago Wednesday - stress tends to do screwy things with my dreams. :crazyeye:

I'll keep y'all posted. :p

Good Luck Sir Bugsy. The Curragh or Warrior build is your call.

@Willow - How did spears stand up to tanks? :spear: As long as they were triumphant, we have nothing to worry about! :rolleyes:
And we all know our history with the RNG... :rolleyes: :dubious: :badcomp:

Nice work Capt. thanks. :rockon:

EDIT - Crossed with Willow,

CONGRATULATIONS!!
