SGOTM 10 - Xteam

I'm always having trouble timing when to go after someone. :crazyeye:

Sometimes I'm too early and cannot sustain the assualt. But more often, I am too late and have to slog through some pretty hefty defenses.

How do you guys time when to go for it? :hammer:

But I do agree, with a few more units, the time is close for the Incan nation!!

In my SP games, I'm usually too late on the offense.
We can get cats to support our swords. I think 10 cats and 5 vet swords would have good chances, but even that may be excessive.

Thanks, I would prolly wait until I had 5 Vet Swords and 5 Vet Horsies, although 10 Vet Horsies would be my choice. I always have liked the speed and retreat ability of mounted units. Cats, I think are good on the defense but I can never seem to hit anything with them on the offense, unless I have a stack of them. ;)

Now I get to sit back and see what Bugs decides!! :mischief: ;) :p

We do have a pretty good violently minded group coming up for the next 30 turns :hammer:
Perhaps I should seek cover! :p

Good luck Bugs, may the Navy triumph!! :)

It's good to see that the barb sabotage ability hasn't prevented wonder-building. But it probably means that we should just capture the wonders we want rather than build them.

Good luck Bugs!

That's usally what Admiral Kutzov says after I get one of my bright ideas... :crazyeye:

I have it. Setting up for Incan war. No peace until treaties expire. Should have it up in 36 hours max.

BTW - I forgot to thank you for your quick ideas concerning tactics the other nght. While there were some good ones, I was already past the point. But I appreciate the effort. :goodjob:

Now for Bugs, let's pretend we are Cortez! ;) :mischief:

Who me?? I'm just a harmless little Gator.

BTW, nicely played leif.

On when to attack another AI, I've been doing most of my early warring soley with horses. I usually wait until I have about 5 cities connected that can keep cranking out replacement horses. Form up an army of 12 to 15 then attack. Since we want to do some pointy stick research pausing in the middle of a war is not a problem. I also use the Military advisor's assessment of strong, average and weak. If I have been weak to a civ and can get them down to average before I attack I'll try to bring in somebody of their backside and attack. No hesitation on any civ that I'm strong to and or have only recently gone average with.

Thanks.

A harmless little Gator, I hear on the news that there is a Gator stalking and eating women down there. Beware a Gator who calls himself harmless!! :mischief:

Swamp Lizards... ack... ugly, not too bright, and they smell bad. Okayokayokay... I'll take the SEC smack to the OT forum next fall. :p

...and I can't imagine what Mistfit meant when he was talking about a violent crowd... I mean... Bugsy's a guitar player... and cavalry scouts just go places, look around, and report back on what they see, right?

Anybody wanna buy a bridge? :D

I do remember something about the word "Charge!!" and its reference to the "Light Brigade", of cavalry? ;) :mischief:

No, but I could build you one that will easily support 70 tons, or more... :mischief:
Promise... ;)

You guys misunderstand me. I am actually a builder at heart.

Seriously, I like to build stuff:
  • I like to build cities, so that I may build an empire...
  • I like to build barracks, so I can build veteran units.
  • I like to build roads, to connect my trade network, make some gold, and move some units.
  • I like to build markets, for happiness, gold, and unit support.
  • I like to build libraries, so I can learn to build better units.
  • I like to build MORE cities, for more unit support
  • I like to build railroads, so I can move my units really fast.
  • I like to build factories, so I can build units faster
  • I like to build things that throw rocks and drop bombs, so I can ... kill other civs' units!
  • I like to build universities and banks... (see "libraries" and "markets")
  • I like to build airfields, so I can move units around really, REALLY fast.

No, but I could build you one that will easily support 70 tons, or more... :mischief:
Promise... ;)
I'd rather build an empire that will support 70 tons worth of... whatever the unit-of-the-era is. :hammer:

It must be very hard to be so misunderstood... :p

Pre-flight – 1000 BC – Eight turns of alliances against the Dutch. Theodora will give us Construction for MM and virtually our entire economy. I pass. Our military is average to Inca. Change Nottingham to a sword. I prefer swords over horses.

975 – Nada.

950 – Go on a little intel gathering mission in Incan lands.

IBT – Incans demand 29G. I give in for six more turns.

925 – Here is the intel snapshot:

900
875 – We have seven swords ready for war. Another in two turns. That’s when we’ll attack.

IBT – Sumerians build ToA.

850 – We’re all set for war. We also have some reserves in place to cover incursions.

IBT – Mayans build the Great Wall. The Dutch build the Lighthoue.

825 – Demand that Pachutti give us our 29G back with interest. No dice? WAR!
Cross the boarder with eight swords using the river and the forest for defense.

800 – Alliances are now on a turn by turn basis. Dial up Willie and get a slave plus everything in his purse (27G) in exchange for a peace treaty. Our dinky boat is being chased by a barb galley. Move our stack next to Cuzco.

IBT – Five Incan warriors sally forth towards us.

775 - @ Cuzco – We attack twice, lose two HP, kill the two defenders and…

We now have spices. Knock off three other Incan warriors. Spot an Incan sword.

IBT – Kill and attacking warrior in the NW. Lose our dinky boat. Two Incans march next to Cuzco. Cuzco riots due to two fewer resisters.

750 – Kill the two invaders. Start the march on Tiwanaku.

Here is an idea for the campaign.:

I think going Tiwanaku => Olly-olly-oxen-free is our best bet for the next 5=>10 turns. Olly has the Incan iron. We’ll need to peal off and get Machu Picchu at some point as well.

I just realized I still don’t have the right graphics loaded. I thought I did that. :hmm:

I like to :hammer: stuff. See my previous post.

:woohoo: Nice work Bugs!! :hatsoff: :salute: Cuzco is ours!! [party]

Off to war we march. Where are all those violent Civ-playing types? [pimp]

Roster:
Gator - UP
Scout - On Deck
Mistfit
Capt
Leif
Bugs
- Just started a war and took their capital!!:hammer:

See you in the morning!!

Looking at the save, some suggestions for you gator.

In Newcastle, I thnk we can work the Sheep tile instead of the grass.

We are building 2 Spears. Should we be building either Swords, which have the same defense value as a Spear, or Horses? I will admit that Capt's Spear in Coventry saved our butts, but now that we have Swords, I think we should be building them. I think I would start building more horses with a view to upgrade to Knights?

On the campaign plan, I think it would be faster to assemble the Swords that are about to finish in Coventry and attack the Incan city near Coventry from there. The forces on hand can continue the attack Tiwanaku to Ollantaytambo. The forces in the north can go to the unknown city, located somehwere near the yellow box, and then proceed to Machu Picchu. I have attached a proposal.

EDIT - Sumeria next? Just so that we can continue to build forces and place them to be ready! :mischief:
