SGOTM 10 - Xteam

Got it, but I can't play until tomorrow night.

Does it automatically sequence the file names so you can take more than 1 screenie per session or do I need to set that somewhere as well?

Make sure you have your Interval set, that sequences your picture number. Here's a look at my settings.

OK, I think I have it now. We are using a different version methinks?
EDIT - Well, that didn't work to well, so I'll attach it.

seriously... it is nice to have the pics it is much easier to follow the action and make plans.
Precisely. Think about if we had at least one screenshot showing the situation the last fifty turns or so. We would have had a very good feel for the game and we could work as a team towards our goal. I went a little overboard on my screenshots, but is there anyone who doesn't have an excellent feel for the game situation and what we have to do.

Gator - I thought Scout was following me, but the challenge remains. Can you take the peninsula in five turns? Can you have Sumeria down to a single city in seven? I'm putting my money on you.

Thanks, but I'm fighting off a week long headache so if Scout wants to grab it first that's fine with me. Just post a got it and the switch is on.

@Gator: I'll check the thread when I get in tonight. If you haven't changed your mind we can swap, no problem.

It's yours. I'm up in the cIV SG also and can't get to either of them until tomorrow evening at the earliest.

SGOTM 10 - Log

Pre-flight check:

We're making +11gpt with 289 in the kitty, Invention in 2.

F-Checks: We're strong to all of our neighbors.

40% of the unhappy citizens of Tiwanaku are war-weary. Half the citizens in Machu Picchu are Incan...adding to the flip risk. Levy "Heavy" taxes on that one...and Huamanga too.

Tile-swap Nottingham and York to give a FP to Nottingham and get it growing a little faster. ... MM/Tile-Swap Nottingham and Coventry to give Nottingham a little more food. Nottingham is now at 10spt, growth in 6 instead of 27. Grab a Floodplain at Liverpool to get it growing again. Ollantaytambo is producing some gold, but it's shield poor. We can't use a Barracks there yet...tile-swap Dover and Coventry to let Dover have one of the fish.

We've got 2 undefended towns that border on Isin (Sumerian).

Executive decisions:
60g spent rushing a Library at Tiwanaku.
8g spent on a barracks short-rush of Machu Picchu's Court.
16g to a worker in Kish.
60g on a Temple short-rush of Canterbury's Aqueduct, MM to get it to 10spt.
12g to finish Huamanga's Trebuchet.
16g to finish Vilcas' Barracks...
24g on a worker short-rush of Vilcabamba's Court.
16g on a worker short rush of a Treb at Dover.
8g on an archer short rush of Cuzco's Trebuchet.
24g to finish the barracks in Ollantaytambo, swap to Library.

At 15spt net, it makes a little more sense to build Pikes or Trebs at London. Swap to Trebuchet.

Press <Enter>
IBT - some Sumerian Units move around.
Sumer Worker>Library (MM for growth)
Tiwanaku Library>Court
Nottingham Trebuchet>MDI
Kish Worker>Library
Newcastle MDI>MDI
Huamanga Trebuchet>Library
Vilcas Barracks>Pike

Turn 1/360 AD - Let Machu Picchu have a little food for one more turn... because then I can keep a scientist on the payroll that I need to get invention next turn while taking down science. This brings us to +21gpt from 12.

Rushes/Short-rushes
24g on an Archer into Vilcabamba's Court

Swap Liverpool to a Library, as we're about to put a couple of forest chops in there.

Dispatches:
Nottingham's Trebuchet heads west
A really nice stack of Trebuchets advance on Ur with 4 MDI and a Sword Army
Another Sword Army whacks an Enkidu Warrior at Lagash.
Our MDI Army whacks a pike at Agade, then blitzes the Enkidu Warrior, and we take the city.

new16mc.jpg

Our only open trade route is with William, who offers Incense for Iron and Horses. I don't think so... you still haven't been paid back for razing our town, you schmuck. Offer Dyes+Spices+5gpt, and he'll take it. If it let's me ratchet lux down a notch it's a net savings of 17gpt. Dicker him down to 3gpt and do the deal. I can't quite take down lux, but I've got a cushion on WW.

I am really tempted to queue up a Forbidden Palace in Cuzco, but that might not be the best place for it. I'll queue up a court in a bit, and that'll give us some options there.

32g into a worker short rush of a Library at Liverpool, and end the turn.

IBT - a few Sumerian units move...Invention comes in, queue up Gunpowder.
London Trebuchet>Pike
Cuzco Trebuchet>Court
York Trebuchet>Library (!)

Troops quell 1 Resister at Agade, and the town starves by one.

Turn 2/370 AD
Our Sword Army makes short work of the last Enkidu Warrior at Lagash.

new24js.jpg

*****Siege of Ur
Trebuchets at Ur reveal 3 Veteran and 3 Regular Pikes defending the city. Our Sword Army reveals that there are no more pikes (by whacking a 3/3 Pike). MDI Army comes in from the western flank (Agade) and dispatches a 3/4 Pike.

IBT - Lots of Sumerian Galleys... Lagash Riots as our Sword Army quells 2 resisters....and I play IRS. Agade deposes our Governor. I think we lost 2 MDI there... but "Losing" a city will count in the war weariness calculus.

new31xv.jpg

Oh well. I needed that culture flip in order to have a kill ratio in this set. Before that I was getting $DIV/0 errors. :D

...more to follow...

Turn 3/380AD

16g on a worker short rush of the court in Cuzco.

Our Sword Army dispatches a Longbow/MDI pair outside Lagash, and gets out of culture-flipping range.

Rest the Armies outside Ur. End the turn at 20g+4gpt, Guns in 19.

IBT - Sumerians request an audience, and are rebuffed. They land a MDI outside Liverpool, and advance a longbow out of Isin.
London Pike>Trebuchet
We quell some resistance at Lagash
Hastings MDI>MDI
Canterbury Aqueduct>Market
Coventry MDI>MDI

Turn 4/390 AD
Take an archer out of Newcastle and whack the longbow. Advance Trebuchets and MDI on Isin.

*****Siege of Ur
Lead with the MDI Army and whack a pike. Follow with the Sword Army and run that sucker all the way down to 1/14 whacking another Veteran Pike. Cout a Vet, a Reg, and another Reg remaining. Trebs take all defenders to 2hp. Vet MDI whacks a pike, MDI now 1/4. Elite* MDI whacks a pike, now 1/5. Use the MDI Army to "Finish the Drill".

new45ws.jpg

***Actions at Lagash
Vet Sword whacks a Longbow.... and an Elite Horse I brought from Newcastle whacks an MDI...but no leader.

With the ToA in hand, I'm able to take lux down a notch.

IBT - Not much...other than that MDI at Liverpool...but I've "made arrangements" for him. The Sumerians are officially gassed. We quell 2 resisters at Ur.

Nottingham MDI>Library
Oxford Harbor> Worker

Turn 5/400 AD

Move the beat-up armies to safety... I need a Barracks in a safe location. Use some trebs held in reserve to redline the interloping MDI, then whack with an elite. No leader.

Swap Coventry to Market. Swap Ollantaytambo back to court. The free temple will give us a border expansion. Same for Huamanga and Liverpool. Swap Vilcas to worker.

Advance 4 Trebs and 5 MDI on Isin.

IBT - I think I saw one longbow poke his head out of the fog...our new Sumerian holdings starve a bit.
London Pike>Settler
Vilcas Worker>Worker

Byzantines are building Knights Templar

Barbarians are building Knights Templar

new53fg.jpg

Turn 6/410 AD

*****Siege of Isin
Trebuchets reveal 4 defenders... all Enkidu. First MDI in dies flawlessly to an Enkidu (this town's on a hill). Second goes 1/4 killing a 4/4 Enkidu that got promoted. 3rd MDI goes 2/4 killing a 2/3 Enkidu. 4th repeats. The 5th one in "finishes the drill".

new63jn.jpg

IBT - Not much. Gilgamesh advances a longbow on Ur.
Newcastle MDI>Worker
Dover Trebuchet>worker

Turn 7/420 AD
Whack the enemy longbow at Ur. Advance a really nice stack on Agade. Move troops out of Isin for a peninsular campaign.

IBT - Sumerians advance a MDI, we starve some foreigners out of our empire.
London Settler>Library
York Library>Market
Hastings MDI>Market

Turn 8/430
Forced to take science down a notch this turn.

*****Siege of Agade (Redux)
Trebuchets lay waste to the defenders, redlining all... well, both of them. Vet MDI flawlessly kills a 4/4 Pike. Move a healthy Sword army in for the kill.

new70sm.jpg

Looking at the map... it appears that William has 4 cities...even IF he has one under the fog, he's a 5CC. He wants Horses, Iron, and 22g for Monotheism. Tell you what, Billy Boy, whaddya say I give you Horses and Iron, and you give ME some gold and Monotheism. Sound like a deal? Done.

This lets me know that Theodora is up Theology and Chivalry, as are the Maya. We're at parity with the Dutch. Sumeria has Theology.

IBT - @Team: You know how the AI seem to know where all the resources are? I'm starting to think they know when a SG player is on turn 9 too.

The Maya show up, demanding horses. And I forgot to take a screenie.

What to do, what to do... Well... we might want to get after his A$$ before this 20-turn deal is up... so in the interest of playing "honorably", I tell ol' Smokey to pack sand. And he does. Wuss.

IBT - We get some Kulcha all over the place as ToA kicks in.

The Barbarians are workin' on some Kulcha too.

new82wp.jpg

Newcastle Worker>Worker

:dubious: Maya and Byzantines have Gunpowder.

Turn 9/440 AD
Rallying troops for a peninsular Campaign in the west...

Advance toops on Umma...and advancing even MORE troops on Umma.

IBT - Barbarians start Sistine Chapel. @Bugs remember that wonder-sacking slugfest Bede dragged us into?

A couple of forest chops go into Liverpool...

Turn 10/450 AD

Machu Picchu is now down to one Incan and one English citizen, and no longer a flip risk.

Advance troops on Ashkak.

*****Siege of Umma
For the second time tonight, I redline a Sword Army. :crazyeye:

Grab another Sword Army, and blitz the other Enkidu.

We capture the city, but I lost the screenie. :wallbash:

For those that were complainin' about screenies... wait a sec... that was me that was complainin' about screenies... nevermind.

@Bugs: Where'd you put that over/under line again? You do realize that G-man did that to me once, don't you? :p

@Next Better Player: Sumeria will now give us Theology and either Akshak OR Zabalam (but not both cities) for peace. I would prefer to run them off the eastern peninsula, and put our capitol between their new one and their former cities. It's a flip risk thing. Keep the torches lit. As badly beat up as the sword armies are, the MDI Army is fresh, and accompanied by a dozen Trebs and a couple more MDI on the way to Bad-Tibira.

new98wr.jpg

After we deal with Sumeria, get those Trebuchets southward!

:goodjob: Nice work Scout!! :hammer:

Roster:
Gator - UP
Scout
- Swapped with Gator - Just had too much fun!
Mistfit - On Deck
Capt
. - Requested Skip
Leif
Bugs
- Enjoying Memorial Day Weekend

I thought we were going top try to keep Isin as Gilgamesh's only home because of its poor terrain, but no matter. We need to find him a new home where he can be sent to serve us with his scientific trait?

I forgot to post this last night... a screenshot of our empire. Take a good look, because I don't think it will all fit on one screen after another turnset or so... :king:

Well done scout. I think you would have had it if it wasn't for the flip.

Gator - Just leave them one city and take everything they will give you.

Thanks Bugs. The ToA helped us nicely in territory, too. And I managed to queue up some infrastructure along the way. Though we'll never be the culture monster in this game, our culture bar shouldn't remain a skidmark in the underpants of the histogram when compared to our "normal" AI neighbors.

Speaking of the Barbarians, have you guys seen their culture?!?! And they've laid claim to 42% of the world. Might it be possible for them to "win" by domination before we can even get troops over there? :dubious:

I sure hope not. I'm sure Gyathaar had a huge challange in mind when he set them up. I bet he modded them for lower tech costs and gave them numerous settlers and gold to start the game.

This is starting to remind me of when we had that huge slugfest with an overpowered France in a prior SGOTM. It was a modern era war where we used airports to transports troops.

We need to generate and/or build as many armies as possible. We may need to employ Sir Pleb's Funnel of Doom when we land over there. Remember he found that the AI was not as willing to attack an army not in a city but would attack an army in a beachhead city.

I should be able to play later today.

Sorry for not getting to the game yet. I was supposed to be able to play today, but I went golfing instead and now I'm too tired. It was too nice of a day to be coop up inside and I gave my Dad an early father’s day present, a new driver. So of course we had to go try it out.

I can definitely play Tuesday night, but if the next person wants to grab it first feel free. Just post a got it before playing.

BTW, I’ll be at a conference from June 5th to the 9th, without any Internet connection.

I sure hope it's designed to play out that way. There are few who like this sort of warfare more than me, and it's been a while since Bugs and I have been in such a slugfest together.

@Bugs: May I please start scheming to use Marines and/or Paratroopers and/or Flak? :D
