SGOTM 11 - T'dr'duzk b'hazg t't

Today's game ended earlier than I was expecting, so I have plenty of time to play Civ!

Why yes, yes I am. What did you do in the game, go on a murderous rampage and kill all the other players?

What did you do in the game, go on a murderous rampage and kill all the other players?

lol, no. The DM had to leave at 7 pacific, when I was thinking that we were going to play until around 10 pacific. I'm not that great at assuming things.

By the way, Bombay is the GP farm, yes? That means cottages, yes?

GP Farm usually means farms, not cottages. You want it to have lots of food to support a massive population of specialists, in our case, Artists.

Turn 10 (continued):

I moved the eastern warrior west. Zara's border has us covered in the barb department.

Moved Vijayanagara's garrison warrior along the road S & SW.

Switched Delhi to building a settler.

Turn 11:

Barb moved SW from deer.

Moved eastern warrior west.

Moved Bombay's new garrison along the road again, closer to Bombay.

Bombay is no longer unhappy for some reason, but it still has MP anger, so I'm going along with the plan still.

Moved Pataliputra's new garrison south.

While waiting for its protection to arrive, I tell the worker near Delhi to road the second corn. Might as well.

I get the workers at Vijayanagara to farm that FP.

Turn 12:

Bombay finishes its Workboat, starts on a worker.

Bombay gets its MP.

Pataliputra's new garrison is one turn away from the city.

Worker near Bombay begins on a farm.

Eastern warrior moves west.

Turn 13:

Vijayanagara finishes its warrior. I tell it to start a chariot in case I need to send one down to smack that barb upside the head, and the city needs to grow as well.

Pataliputra gets its MP.

Western fish GET

Eastern warrior moves SW.

Turn 14:

Delhi's worker, having finished the road, moves SE one tile, waiting for its protection.

Said protection moves SW again, and is at this point one move away from the hill.

Turn 15:

The barb moves beside Pataliputra.

The warrior gets on the silver hill as does the worker who starts mining.

Turn 16:

The barb suicides on Pataliputra. About damn time.

Judaism FIDL

Since that warrior on the hill no longer needs to be there, I move him NE.

The workers up at Vijayanagara are done with that farm, so I get them to road on the farm and NW of it, as that leads directly to the yellow dot, to help the settler get there faster.

Turn 17:

I put the warrior in Delhi, because I have no idea what else to do with it.

In retrospect, I could have brought him down to where the barb was hanging out to bust against galleys...

Turn 18:

Pataliputra and Vijayanagara grow to 3.

I fortify that warrior in Delhi.

ORACLE BIDL

Well, guys, our plan has been utterly and completely screwed. Back to the drawing board.

Turn 19:

Justinian adopts HR. I think the bastard did a Monarchy Oracle sling.

Bombay finishes its worker, I set it to a warrior to let it grow.

This new worker subsequently works on another farm.

I also noticed that Zara is teching Masonry.

The two workers up at Vijayanagara finished the roads and I have no idea what to to with them, and frankly I'm too disgusted by this loss to think about it.

Neil, you can do whatever with them.

Anyways, here's the world as we know it:

And The Save.

Bummer about the Oracle FSE....
We could use the pre-chops in Delhi to get StoneHenge out. Settler in 1 turn, granary 1 turn after that then SH 2 or 3 turns after. What other wonders are still available?

Settler still to go straight to the marble spot, we need some cottages up & running for the economy.

Settler still to go straight to the marble spot, we need some cottages up & running for the economy.

And I built those nifty roads to make it happen faster! :D

We need to start teching towards the good culture wonders and fast. I wonder with the early Oracle, did someone out there get a leg up? Without the oracle we should focus on the GLib first and then go hell for leather for Sistine, and try to get a late religion.

Is it possible to sail to the sugar (I think?) island, we really need to start getting in contact with others, if only to see our plan falling apart (sorry about the pessimism had my bike stolen last night).

Got It.

I will analyse the save at lunchtime and make a few suggestions before playing tonight.

Bad news about the bike, makes you want to :hammer:

OK, here goes.

0% research rate for 1 turn, change to 100% until PH is done, back to 0%.

Delhi
- let it finish the settler (1 turn)
- let it finish the granary (1 turn)
- change to StoneHenge
- finish 3 chops = done in 1 turn.
- workers/settler

Bombay
- change warrior to WB, for exploration (11 turns)

Patal
- whip Granary as soon as possible
- build road
- build cottages

Vijay
- finish chariot
- allow growth to 4
- connect copper
- worker/Axe

Tech path -> PH, Writing, Poly, Aesthetics....

Well, I'm ready to play, but I don't want to without any input from anyone else.
I will wait until tomorrow.....

Well chaps, here it is....

I played 21 turns, as I think Matrix stopped 1 turn early. The save is at the end of the turn in 1000BC.

We built SH, met a few more AI, settled 2 more cities, built more workers.

I renamed Vijay... to Vijay, and Patal..... to Patal, I hope no-one minds.

The empire:

Our exploration:
Spoiler :

Our WB saw 5 gold tiles, none of them mined yet. It also saw the GW (Toku).
We can see 2 sugar now on the island to our north.
Zara built a city to the NE of Vijay, next to the Oasis.

Here is a turn-by-turn account of what happened:
Spoiler :

Turn 19
- Bombay has 2 scientists
- Delhi starts Pyramids
- Bombay starts Barracks

The forests to the West & East of Delhi are all pre-chopped, waiting for the Parthenon.

Delhi is building the Pyramids for cash-failure. Unless we get close to completing it, then I might be tempted to finish chopping the forests.

We are teching Aesthetics, I was tempted to go Monarchy for the instant happiness bonus, but the AI usually love teching this, so we should be able to trade it, and hopefully maths as well for Aesthetics. No-one has Alphabet yet.

If a few of the Gold were mined, I would have been tempted to change research to sailing, in the hope of trading for it.

Bombay will complete a GS in 11 turns, send him to Delhi for an academy.

So we're up to 5 that's good. Can you see who built what wonder? It'd be interesting if one of our neighbours built the Oracle.
I'm guessing Sally is Hindu, any indication with Toku or Justy?
How quick are we building the razor sharpeners in Delhi?
How're our power and tech situations?
Sorry for all the questions but I'm not touching the save until my turn.

Oh yeah I'll edit Matrix's trurn order and repost it:

ForGreatJustice - up
Brian Shanahan - on deck
dima42
Earthling
IdiotsOpposite - skipped
MatrixTheKitty
neilmeister - gone to a well deserved rest.

No worries Brian....

Justinian built the Oracle. I think you got it right when you said he got Monarchy this way.

Justinian & Toku are Jews.
Saladin is Hindu.

Delhi will build 'mids in 32 turns, and it is fully maxed on production, using all mines.
I don't expect to actually build it, I started it because there was nothing else left worthwhile to build. I must admit it would be awesome, as we could be in Representation extremely early. All our Artists funding our research. :) There are 4 forests that are already pre-chopped, but this will still leave us some way to go to finish it.
Same goes for Bombay, we don't need/want a Barracks, but it is a way to not produce any more troops that cost us, and to allow growth. If I could have built research or wealth, I would have.

@ Power, we are far behind Zara, but we have been since the start. We haven't got enough Esp points to see anyone else. (I did change this very late, so everyone is at equal weighting).

@ Tech, we are currently running 0% research, to save on rounding. If we changed to 30% (which is sustainable), we would get Aesthetics in 18 turns.

EDIT. Delhi is also 1 turn off producing a chariot, but I didn't want to finish it and add to our unit maintenance costs. But if push comes to shove with Zara, it could be useful.

Thanks for that Neil, I only now realised that I double pasted the turn order.
As regards tech, what have we on the AIs and vice versa as well?

Edit it now, and no-one need ever know. ;)
Can't tell yet, other than Justin & Saladin asked for open borders before we had Writing.
We can see what Zara is teching, and that is Writing, in 5 turns.

FGJ, your up.

Actually just realised if Justice plays his turns either today or tomorrow (Friday) then I'll need a swap with dima42, as I'll be up in Limerick at a friend's 30th.

There was a civver named Brian,
who found he was a bit tryin,
he said he should swap,
with Dima, but don't chop!,
I wish we were playin the Mayan.

Or is this not what you meant by Limerick.... :)

PS. sorry for any stereotyoing, or otherwise offensive behaviour.....

Limericks originated we do not know where, and aren't considered a Limerick phenomenon as such.
To stereotype a Limerick (city) man you just call him a rugby supporting, knife wielding, hooligan (we actually use a different word but it's banned by the site). Us country boys are far more sophisticated. Where I'm going to is Murroe, home of the relatively famous Glenstal Abbey.
