You don't want an almost-never-ending conquest game? :) With vassals off, conquest only would truly suck. I see another massive nuclear war, in that event.

If you are aiming for something as advanced as nukes, I can almost guarantee you won't win :p

Unless in the competition requirements you must use advanced units, such as Marines or tanks or whatever

Vassals off, Domination off. Let's have a true Conquest game!
If Conquest has to be, conquest full!

How about a real challenge:

Hemispheres, Conquest, No City razing, All victory conditions on!

We can see how hard it is to take over the world, keep the economy going and not trigger a domination.

Hey, what have you smoked?
It's nearly impossible to not trigger a domination with "no city razing". Unless the map is designed with a lot of unreachable terrain to make for it.

Or... well, let's see

I agree that it is 'nearly' impossible but with the players around here, I bet at least a couple teams could pull it off.

I was wondering if it would be feasible to pull out a roleplay Sitting Bull : no metals, and in fact, never discovering mining.

Or a realllly bad start, something that would have a normal player quit while laughing at the computer, few or no resources, lots of plains...

Just a problem: mining is in the Astro path: you need Compass for optics, IW for compass, BW for IW and mining for BW. Only in a pangea map you can conquer your opponents. Provided you can be alive to see your Longbows. But you need Rifling to start conquer something.

Thanks to everyone who took the trouble to offer input in this thread, especially to all the people who backed up their preferences with clear reasons in terms of the effect certain options would have on the game.

Obviously GOTM 13 is now closed from the point of view of more comments, since the starting screenshot is posted. You can judge for yourselves from the announced game setup how much (or how little) we've paid attention to this thread :mischief:. Either way, some of the ideas here have definitely given me good inspiration for possible future SGOTMs or GOTMs :goodjob:

I think this thread was great for setting up SGOTM13 the way the community was interested in playing it! kudos to the staff once again. :goodjob:

If I'm not being too forward, would it be possible to set up a similar one for the next SGOTM? There's already plenty of talk around team threads concerning the next one, I think having it all in the same place could spark off some nice ideas and get more or less of an agreement on what we'd like difficulty/settings wise.

Good idea. I wonder perhaps if AlanH and co deserve a few days rest before we start this?

Unless they are as eager as the rest of us to get a new game sorted. :)
