SGOTM 15 - Kakumeika

Wow, civ complexity at its best. :D

Hah - I'm getting old - forgot my own post! Sorry, I need to correct my former statements: the hidden minimum for Toku-Toku love is just +2 (-1 Toku's base attitude; -1 Handicap Noble!; +2 Warmonger Respect; +2 for max peace weight difference of 2)

There is no cap for liberation!

Edit: we might also try to use the +1 underdog bonus -> both Hammu and us need to be in the lower half of the score board.

Did you hidden minimum or hidden maximum?

I have seen Tokus with +5 visible at friendly and currently Hatsegawa is +6 visible and is friendly I believe with Elizagawa. So the hidden modifier definitely can be +4 or +3.

Yes I meant the minimum of the hidden modifiers = +2.

The maximum can be +5 -> friendly at visible +5 is possible, but it requires identical peace weights and the +1 underdog bonus.

No cap on (Liberation)? I see a spot 4N of Babylon :scan:

Have to go. Will fix Hindu Missionary micro tonight. Maybe Science in DeerGold T110 and just push each Hindu Missionary build back a turn.

Sorry to be late into the discussion. Here are some random thoughts:

I don't like the idea of a Elizagawa Holy War at T116 due to a number of reasons (which I won't go into and have seen them already mentioned.)

I have doubts that this would work, but we could demand something Elizagawa won't give up 10 time for a -10 (max) arrogant demand negative diplo and try to goad her into declaring on us. We would be looking at T126 Holy War, with no guarantees.

After we get Hammaragawa please with our next liberation, we can potentially bribe him into war with Elizagawa. We need to broker peace between him and Shaka first. Then create the Holy War. Toku will declare on friendly civs when bribed if at pleased.

We may still need optics or astronomy to get to the team AI.

If we have a buddhist city, we open ourselves to Change religion demand from Hammaragawa.

Bribe Hammuragawa into war with Elizabeth
Bribing Hammuragawa into war with Elizabeth is a good idea. We might be able to avoid the -1 diplo hit for DoW on Elizabeth (at least with Hammuragawa) if we first have him declare on her. I'm scared he won't do it since he won't see any value in it for him. Although if we gift Liz cities next to his borders then maybe he will! Oh very nice!

We need to work out the timing on this...
Also we might not have the tech necessary to both bribe him into peace with Shaka and bribe him into war with Elizabeth.

Yes liberating another city to Hammuragawa is a top priority.

optics and astronomy not needed
The optics and astronomy requirement for religion spreading is largely busted. We have noticed that several AI have gotten Judaism randomly spread to them and the unknown team AI most likely have founded this religion. That means there must be a theoretical trade route between Hammuragawa and this unmet team AI. Which means we can reach them without astronomy or optics.

small detail:
We should get our relations in place t134. I even like to gift another tech that turn thinking it would prevent +4 trade from decaying (whether it does or not, I don't know, it's just a feeling). I do know that anything you do on t135 (the vote turn) to change relations won't effect who they vote for.

However, the votes aren't counted until t136. This is a good turn to infect 3 more Hamm cities and grow ours (just in case hindu random spreads to others or their population grows in hindu cities.) Of course, if we pass the 75% mark, I believe it will cancel the election.

Lol, a last minute "trifector" of our ally keeps us from being 75% and keeps him voting for us! Edit: we'd need to have been sub-75 for the vote to come up earlier, also.

That, and the horizontal world wrap is much smaller than the minimap would suggest. There's barely any room for an astro-requiring island in the southern hemisphere. We've not seen much of the northern hemisphere, but the Judaism spread to Hammu looks damning to me.

I agree with what both of you are saying, but you are making BIG assumptions! There is a mapmaker, this is not a random map generation. There could easily be a setup where there are ocean tiles between an island with other civs.

If we want to have enough espionage for two attempts to steal currency from Liz T114 before the war starts, we need to Golden Age T112 I believe, and crank the espionage slider to 100% on T111.

Note that a failed Espionage mission doesn't use up any Espionage points.

Why is a golden age needed to increase the Espionage rate to make two stealing attempts of the same Technology?

Sun Tzu Wu

I'll answer for Kaitzilla. I hope he doesn't mind.

We need more espionage in LizTown than we will in Hammville, so in order for 2 attempts to be possible we need to reach the higher espionage cost total. He understands that a failed attempt will not use up the espionage.

We have 130 gold and at 0% research 0% espionage we are earning 0-1 gold per turn. We make ~60 espionage every turn at 100% and we can't maintain that long enough without the golden age to increase our commerce. We need about ~240 espionage for the more expensive attempt. So we need the golden age.

If we put hinduism into Hammuragawa's capital he would switch to Hinduism perhaps and the diplo vote wouldn't work? Not sure how that happens if we spread hinduism there the turn before the vote.

edit: So there are some T136 tricks it looks like. Presumably spreading Hinduism to Hammuragawa on that turn carries no risk of him switching over and cancelling the outcome of the vote. Although if he switches on T136 would his votes get doubled (I guess that works for us regardless).

If Hammuragawa has religions in his cities we might get unlucky with one of our missionaries on T136, so that will need careful consideration.

TAP Religion needs to be present the turn before the vote in at least one city in all Civs for RL DV to be an option.

On the turn of the RL DV vote, additional TfAP Religion conversions can be done.

The target Civ can switch on its own or be switched via Espionage to the TAP Religion. This always doubles that Civ's vote.

At the end of each of these turns, the TAP Religion must not be present in any Civ at the 75% level; in the first turn, RL DV would not be an option; in the second turn, the vote would be cancelled.

Thus vote increasing conversion should occur right after the Civs cast their votes.

It is true that we are making a lot of assumptions. We almost have to if we are going for the gold medal. Being surrounded and boxed in by Toku's and mountains means we have to follow a very strict script that the mapmaker created for us. Every time we declare war on a Toku, we get -1 with all of them. They are permanently pleased with each other, so may bribe each other to war against us at any moment. If we want to sail, we practically must go up Hammuragawa's border.

Toku was placed where he was so early war with him was guaranteed. He immediately bribed first Hamma in against us, and then Shaka was bribed in, but Toku probably ran out of techs to really pile on.

Elizagawa was given amazing riches to wayyyy out tech us, and a team of AI was put in for unknown reasons.

It's not hard to see what the mapmaker was going for with all the Gawas and mountains being 15%? of the tiles and no city razing. The first Culture SGOTM gold medal game! We are going to prove just how imbalanced the Aposolitic Palace really is instead. :D

The safer plan was to stay at war with Shaka and steal Liz blind with the first PPP, but we hit a wall because Hatse hasn't met Shaka. Rather than wait until T125 for open borders with Hatse and punch through Shaka around T140 militarily, we can just jet through them both T115 using war against Liz.

We only need to infect Ghenghis and 2 unmet AI as the unmet pair is almost certainly infected with Hindu. That means 3 more civs and we can win with a friendly Hammarugawa

So, we are thinking it best to take the riskier path and try to open both the west and east lanes by dragging our neighbors and their neighbors into a shared war and racing beyond. Yes, Liz will bribe Gawas like mad to war on us as soon as possible, but we can keep renewing war against her, and as soon as we make peace with the bribed Gawa we instantly get open borders with them again if they are part of the holy war(which they soon will be with gifted cities)

Liz is the least likely to get random Hindu spread as all her cities are probably Buddist. Permanent Holy War should be possible against her. We can end it at any time with an infected Hindu city. She is in the middle of the map, so getting the whole world around her into war against her should open every border.

As far as across the map islands go, I can see the point. Let me see if I can find a way to have 2 steal attempts on currency without the golden age.

We are accumulating a lot of priorities with Hamma lately.

When pleased we want to:

1)Beg 10 gold so he won't dec us after we dec Liz.

2)Buy him peace with Shaka so he won't take GhostTown from Shaka (Might cost a tech or two, Gawas are pretty unreasonable)

3)Convert him to Theocracy so he won't convert from Kashi spreads(Hard to do if we buy peace with Theology, as he won't switch naturally while at peace)

4)Bribe to war against Liz (Comes after he makes peace with Shaka, we won't have much to bribe him into war against the tech leader ) This means no -1 hopefully when we dec her for holy war and ensures she can't bribe him to attack us.

Ideally getting him to peace with Shaka using Monotheism and bribing him to dec Liz for Theocracy + Metal Casting is best, as he would then convert to Theocracy naturally and hit all 4 goals at the same time.

I've looked at the threat of Liz rush buying a longbow in LizTown for T114 (150 gold?)
I've decided that we will gift Hammsville to her T114 instead of 113 as we don't need to worry about 1 movement point capture units and culture borders as an axe can stand on Hamma's wheat. That means no rush buy is possible for Liz in Hammsville.

1 axe will be sent to wheat to retake Hammsville, and a garrison axe will be taken from CowTown T109 and sent to the great general with the other DeerGold axe. The two axes and the great general will kill any rush bought military unit that Liz buys in the 1% chance it happens and retake LizTown.

I've also rethought the Golden age since it seems a bit wasteful with us whipping so much again. We start out with 120 gold and can get +11 gpt at 0% science for 5 turns working the gold mine in DeerGold nonstop. We can also get 30 gold from the missionary in DeerGold crowding out the one in SheepTown. So 200 gold +20 natural espionage gets us 220 espionage by T114, 30 short of our goal. All we need to do is beg Hammarugawa for 30 gold by T112 and we can skip the golden age for later I think. Ending war with Shaka T112 by giving away GhostTown might also increase our gpt just enough. If the first cheaper steal of Currency fails, the more expensive steal in LizTown can still be a consolation Code of Laws if we fall short with 220 espionage.

We can then use the golden age later in case we need a major war buildup or a big teching campaing. The test game is a bit low on gpt as it doesn't have as many gold per turn resource deals as the real game and isn't totally accurate.

Also, I think Dehli should start a Market T116 if no Gawas get bribed to war against us and we steal Currency. Capital + Kashi gold is yum.

Hammuragawa wants
Priesthood, Monotheism, metal casting and 110 gold for peace with shaka...

I don't think we are going to be able to bribe him into war with Hammuragawa. I don't think it is too important if we can get the beg and get another city liberated to him (takes care of the -1 diplo hit that we will get DoW on Liz)

re: golden age

If we can avoid using the golden age for the currency steal we could consider... stealing code of laws and then bulbing civil service. Or stealing currency and then bulbing code of laws...

I know I was a big fan of the Golden Age, but now that we will not have a handy city to steal techs, the golden age isn't nearly as attractive.

If we manage to build courthouse the earlier code of laws would pay off quite nicely I think. Not sure if we do have the spare hammers to build too many courthouses.

So long story short, I'm okay with saving the great prophet for a later golden age. Just wanted to mention the options in chance someone saw something different.

If we can't get the espionage for currency in LizTown maybe we can get away with not 2 pop whipping the spy? I suspect 10% steal of code of laws is doable.

2 pop whip of a spy just as a backup to the currency steal, is it worth it? If it makes the difference sure, but what are the odds we fail and we can get enough espionage for the steal in LizTown?
