It's pretty simple, you download the save from the progress page, play, save it to your computer with a distinct name. After your turnset is done, upload the save to the progress page. It is a good idea to copy the autolog in your report. It will be automatically generated once you upload your turnset at the progress page.
If you haven't done it yet, modify yor civilizationIV.ini file located in your user directory/Documents/My Games/Beyond the Sword to make an autosave every turn. (Open in notepad, search for "autosave" and change AutoSaveInterval to 1.)
While playing, I follow these rules:
-have a turn-by-turn tPPP which has every action you need to take written on a piece of paper or on another computer in sight
- play a turn as written
- before ending the turn re-check that you didn't miss any action written in the PPP
- try to make a routine advisory screen check in every turn, to see if something came up. (It is more important in the later stages and in the very beginning, but less important at this stage.)
And the most important: don't panic. Nothing happens if you screw up a move. In that case just stop and report. We are all here to learn after all
