SGOTM 16 - U'nu'sual S'us'pec'ts

Other micro thoughts:
Also looks like Wheat has a better tile to work that the river grass. and think roading direct to Tolossa (Iron and 1SE of Iron) is a better option that mining iron, since we are whipping/growing in Wheat at the moment. Work piggies in clam for faster regrowth after whip. And 2 food hamlet (9 turns to village) in Commerce for Uni whipping instead of plain river hamlet.
Instead of Treb in Clams whip 2 mace and take Duro.

Agree with the city builds and the need to take Cam quickly. Then proceed south with mini stack to Durnovaria.

Once Qin is friendly, I am confident he will trade Philo. Friendly should be ~10 turns away, another +1 for shared favourite civic in 9 turns and +1 for sharing resources will get us to +7, which is friendly. We are currently sharing 3 resources with him, and once we get to 50 resource turns, we get the +1. He was pleased at +3, so 4 more is friendly.
Okay then. If we can get to Friendly and he will trade, especially Philo, then I am convinced to move slider. But, can we wait until Friendly and see if he will trade first?

Oops - would not move the slider UNLESS we can get Hammy to trade.

We must be close to getting the traded resource +1, as we are trading him 3 resources and have been doing so for a long time.

If we can bribe him into Beauro, or if he picks it himself, we will start getting bonuses very quickly.

At pleased they will both trade most techs.

Agreed, will modify tiles accordingly:
- Wheat work PH mine & plains cottage, it will still grow this turn.
- Piggies over mines in Clams.
- Grass cottage rather than plains cottage in Commerce

Disagree re: Duro, its not worth the effort at the moment. Trebs are for large Celtic cities and for Egyptian cities.

edit: also disagree re: workers. No direct road costs 1/3 of a movement point, whereas mining the Iron gives wheat a very good tile to work.

OK, that's fair enough.

edit: just looked back through the thread. There are 2 for using slider this turn (me & Benginal), and 2 opposed (SH & Chris). Anyone else have an opinion?

OK - If you think we need more than a dozen Treb to finish Celts?

 OK, that's a good point.

I suppose I want to finish building units soon, and concentrate on what we need.

We have lots of cleanup troops, Maces & X-bows, that we theoretically will not lose many off, because the Trebs have put Collateral damage on the defenders.

So, we can roll up the remaining large Celtic cities, then the Egyptian ones.

Duro is tiny, can't whip troops, will soon have no resources, and is very close to our empire, so we can pop out a few more troops after the Uni's are done.

Good night.

No pressure :D, if we don't get trades I will look stooopid.

IF we think we might get Guilds in trade, we can push it down the order, to after Chemistry. Like this:

PP -> Gunpowder -> Chemistry -> Guilds -> Banking -> Economics -> Philo -> SM (part bulb) -> Lib -> Biology

IF neither Qin or Hammy are researching Guilds next, then it gets pushed up the order and we trade it, so that they then might get Banking for us. Like this:

PP -> Guilds -> Gunpowder -> Chemistry -> Banking -> Economics -> Philo -> SM (part bulb) -> Lib -> Biology

I agree with Chris in liking the first option here better. Regarding the Radio beeline, I can see Neil's point: We'd miss lots of stuff useful now, to save future beakers.

The Radio path is: PP > SM > Physics > Electricity > Lib > Radio (6000 free beakers).

This would reveal oil, but obsolete TGL and monasteries (SM); give us a free GS, airships, and reveal uranium (Physics); let us build bunkers, bomb shelters, and Broadway (Electricity), as well as submarines, Rock and Roll, CR, and the Eiffel Tower (Radio). And more commerce from wind and water mills.

In contrast the path to Biology would give us our UU (I know, I know...), privateers and Frigates, Merc and FM, Banks, Custom Houses (see Benginal's points), a free GM, obsolete TGL slightly later, better farms and 3600 free beakers from taking Bio with Lib.

I agree that we get a much more expensive tech by trying to get Radio with Lib, but I think we are better positioned by going toward Biology. I am willing to hear counter-arguments of course. :)

I've updated the roster. Revent: I think you should play the next set since you only played 2 turns in the last set. Are you up for that?

  • ChrisShaffer - (t0-31)(t147-157) - just played
  • neilmeister - (t32-57)(109-122) - playing
  • Trystero - (t58-72)(t123-135)
  • Revent - (t73-81)(t145-147) - on deck
  • Benginal - (t82-95)(t140-145)
  • SteelHorse - (t135-139)
  • vra379971
  • Deckhand - (t96-108) - available in December
  • Brian Shanahan - consulting

I also done some more housekeeping and updated our decathlon score sheet to indicate our capture of the Buddhist shrine.

1 down, 2 to go. :)

Come on Ramesses, get another Prophet and Shrine for us :please:

PP -> Gunpowder -> Chemistry -> Guilds -> Banking -> Economics -> Philo -> SM (part bulb) -> Lib -> Biology

The real benefit of this path is that if the AI start going towards Liberalism, we can bin the Guilds -> Banking -> Economics and go straight for getting Biology from Lib.

If we don't need to divert, we still get our preferred target from Lib, but also the earlier Banks & Customs Houses and of course FM & the free GM.

Especially if we get another scientist in 8 turns (63%), it can part bulb SM immediately, assuring us of Biology from Lib.

OK, I will play 3 turns in the morning, in about 12-13 hours from this post.

I will follow the PPP linked here

Here is a basic summary:

Finish PP in 1 turn at research rate of 20%
ESP on Hammy, use espionage slider for 1 turn at 40%
Gunpowder as a placeholder (0% research means it is only the scientists researching)
Then 0% research & espionage until the end of the set.
Trebs in Production & Clams
Uni's nearly everywhere else

Take Camulodunum with a minimal force in 3 turns.

Our SoD sitting in Bibracte, waiting for Brennus' SoD. Your move creep!

End of my 9 turn turnset (feels like it was much longer) :whew:

edit: unless there are objections. we can definitely do more discussing. :)

Always nice to see my home town in the histories.

Looking at where this is on the map, you should be a redneck that says y'all driving a pickup truck. :mischief:

I suppose once you let it be known that you vote for the Green candidate, they made you move to Portland, where I here, they almost legalised pot! :cowboy: At least they let you keep your hat. :D

Playing....

edit: actually, not playing :p
