SGOTM 16 - U'nu'sual S'us'pec'ts

Oh I disagree, if they all fortify in vienne it will be great. 10 trebs will bombard away defnces in a turn, then get +150% city attack the next turn. Collateral them into dust and then 14 CR maces to finish them off

Radio is just not a useful tech to be aiming for so early. We miss:
- Economics line
- Steam Power line
- Biology/Medicine line
These 3 lines are where the mid game boosts comes from. It is debatable which is best first, but skipping all 3 does not sound like a wise move to me.

I do like Christo Redendtor, but it costs 1000 hammers. Without a levee or factory, this will take our best production cities 50 turns to complete. So, scratch that for now.

I think Benginals summary is probably best so far.
We would like to receive in trade:
- Guilds (reasonable chance)
- Banking (reasonable chance)
- Philo (very good chance)
- Gunpowder (low chance)

But we don't need them all at once obviously.

IF we think we might get Guilds in trade, we can push it down the order, to after Chemistry. Like this:

PP -> Gunpowder -> Chemistry -> Guilds -> Banking -> Economics -> Philo -> SM (part bulb) -> Lib -> Biology

IF neither Qin or Hammy are researching Guilds next, then it gets pushed up the order and we trade it, so that they then might get Banking for us. Like this:

PP -> Guilds -> Gunpowder -> Chemistry -> Banking -> Economics -> Philo -> SM (part bulb) -> Lib -> Biology

If/when we change to caste and start accumulating GS', then we can bulb Physics/Electricity.... whenever, doing it early gives us no advantage.

Green from me for the mini-turnset. I agree with holding off on Vienne until we take Caledumdrumdumum and see what the SoD is doing. (It is undoubtedly coming for Bibracte)

Settling in for day three of the test match.

I favor this tech path: PP -> Gunpowder -> Chemistry -> Guilds -> Banking -> Economics -> Philo -> SM (part bulb) -> Lib -> Biology

I'd like to see the worker plan before green lighting the mini turnset. Everything else seems fine. I'm not convinced of the value of spending 50% of research for a turn on viewing Hammy's technology path, but if the group supports it, I can go along

I will do the worker plan shortly.

Having visibility of what they are researching will be invaluable, not just in the short term, though it will help us decide on our tech path, but mostly in the long term.

We get enough EP's from Palace & CH's that we will be able to maintain tech visibility on these Qin & Hammy for a very long time, if not the whole game.
So, we can see not only when they start Edu, but when they will finish it, we then don't get any nasty surprises and we maximise our Lib target.

I know you aren't objecting, but I had to try convince you once more :)

1) Color me convinced on spying on Hammy.

2) Are we going to play around with Privateers? I don't use them much, so am not sure of their utility. But if we're getting to chem this early it's a possibility, yeah?

3) Is it possible to chop down the forest next to Bibracte, so Brennus doesn't have anywhere "nice" to park his stack?

OK, I've done the workers, PPP updated. Should I repost it here ?

Privateers are fun, and can seriously pay for themselves.

No can do on the Bibracte chop, we don't have any workers within cooee.

Surely we have something more urgent near out new cities than cottages Paris can't even work yet?

Paris will start working them rather soon, it currently only has 1 unworked improved tile, the GH mine (I don't count the plains farm, its only there to irrigate the corn).

It grows in 2 turns, and could work the mine or a new cottage. It is our Beauro cap after all.

Wheat is the most in need of workers, but it is being serviced by 3 atm. I will bring the worker back from the island asap, before it has finished workshopping the whole island. It is need more on the mainland.

... and that link has a lot of fielder positions in it, which don't make sense if you don't know the game. It has definitely got a lot of slang in it.

Think Cornerback, Nose Tackle, Slop Back, Short Stop.........

1. Technologies

Printing Press at 20% for 1 turns, then 0% and save cash.
Espionage at 50% for 1 turn, all ESP on Hammy, then split our 18 EP's/t 2:1 Hammy:Qin. Its 50% now as in the last 2 turns the cost to see his research has increased 12 EP's and 40% leaves us a few EP short.

My two cents.

Do we really think Philo is a likely chance as a trade before Lib is completed by someone? Or do we think that others like Qin, will not "want to trade this away jus yet". If we do then I agree with figuring out what Hammy is researching, but I suspect not. And if not, there is no reason to delay Philo.

If either Qin or Hammy get to Guilds and they are willing to trade, we should. And then beeline Econ. If they are not willing to, then we should beeline Econ ourselves.

In either case we can save 300 beakers.

Nothing like a sunny Saturday afternoon at Lords with pint or two of Fosters.

England are stuffed!!! 5 down and still 450 behind.

Now it's 7 down with 105 runs. They need 322 to avoid follow-on. Color me skeptical. (I'm beginning to enjoy this even though I have barely any clue as to what is going on.)

I'm still thinking about the tech path options.

Once Qin is friendly, I am confident he will trade Philo. Friendly should be ~10 turns away, another +1 for shared favourite civic in 9 turns and +1 for sharing resources will get us to +7, which is friendly. We are currently sharing 3 resources with him, and once we get to 50 resource turns, we get the +1. He was pleased at +3, so 4 more is friendly.

As for beelining Eco, that is something we could definitely do.
If neither Hammy nor Qin are researching Guilds, or about to, then I agree that we should do it.

After Guilds..... it depends, mostly on what they are researching.

All that said, I think shifting ESP to Hammy is a great idea. I just would move the slider at this time unless I thought Hammy would trade.

Is this would or wouldn't move the slider.

Hammy can maybe be convinced to trade, as long as he switches to Beauro.

Test match cricket can be really tense. As theoretically it only takes 10 balls to get an entire team out for no runs.

The most tense is when they are playing for a draw, and it is down the bowlers left the save the match.

In Cricket, both teams have 11 players, any of the 11 can bowl, but everyone must bat. So once the first 5-6 batsmen are out, it is the bowlers who are then batting.
