SGOTM 16 - U'nu'sual S'us'pec'ts

Hell yeah. If we can attack them in the open, that would be ideal.

I think we should move most of our stack to the forest 1W of Bibracte. Brennus' stack won't be able to reach Bibracte. And this will give us more options next turn.

If Brennus' stack moves to the silk fort, we stay in the forest. Only Brennus' chariots can reach Bibracte since he doesn't have Engineering yet. Then the next turn, his units will be in the open and we kill them. Or they will attack us in the forest and all die.

I don't imagine his stack will move anywhere other than the silk fort, but if they do, then we kill them.

I think the great age of the whip has drawn to a close.
Clams has 70 turns to work off its whip unhappiness  But it does illustrate the power of whipping, our cities are still all decent pop.

After the Uni's are finished, Markets are probably desirable.

Notre Dame would come in handy, no one else has Machinery yet, and we don't have the Stone yet.

Next priority is definitely to take out that SoD, and take Vienne.

Oxford & Notre Dame once we have the Stone.

No, completely disagree about moving our stack, if we move it to the forest, it can then only move 1 tile the turn after = less options.

Yes, I think his stack will move to the fort. It may move on Camulodunum, especially if we only garrison a few troops there ;)

That way after the fort, the next turn the stack moves to the Village south of Camulodunum. Our Bibracte stack can attack it there.

Ah, wasn't paying attention to the no road under the forest. What the heck were Brennus's workers doing leaving a riverside, grassland, forest tile untouched! Sometimes AI, ... sometimes.

EDIT: And there's ANOTHER one 2N1W of Bibracte.

Indeed, though I did appreciate it when we attacked Bibracte. The turn we took it we had half the troops inside, and the rest, mostly injured, standing on the forest waiting for retribution.

Pigs to Ramesses for 4gpt.
Sugar to Hammy for 4gpt.

We get replacements of both of these in the next few turns, when borders pop.

edit: btw, you may have seen it in the images, but there was a celtic GG born in Durnovaria. At least it can't get to his stack :)

Those trades sound good to me.

And yeah, the idiot will probably settle it. I used to get worried he'd use it to make a super city defender archer. But they never do. Sometimes AI, ... sometimes.

Who is up next?

Revent or Trystero?

edit: or are you going to volunteer Benginal? I don't know if Trys is going to want to do the warfare :)

I think I'll pass on playing until the war is over.

I'm not convinced on Libbing Bio yet. I agree Radio isn't exactly the BEST tech we could research, but the huge number of beakers in my opinion offset the opportunity cost of delaying Bio. Plus, we can trade our way and research biology VERY easily.

Trade for Philosophy->Lib until 1t->Bulb SM->Physics->Electricity (Bulb with free GS)->Chemistry (trade for it, going to happen via gifting AI gunpowder much earlier on since Chem is a high priority).

That way, we can have the path towards Biology open up as a back up even though the AI are unlikely to beat us to Lib. I think an extra 4k beakers is no small thing and we will only be delaying biology by a small number of turns.

Oh and something else I forgot in all the excitement about war, we found another way into Humbaba's Haven.

We can put a city or fort down to get in. Though I still favour culture flipping him out of the Haven, I'm not sure how possible it will be.

Spoiler :

edit: another thing, we have 24 sushi resources within reach of our hemisphere, with more unexplored land left.

If Benginal wants to play now, that would be fine with me. I can take over, but this is a holiday week in the US. I will be traveling Tuesday night and visiting family through the weekend. I can play short turnsets, but my availability and internet access will be sporatic.

1) Neil, can we boat through forts if they're not in our territory?

2) I can certainly be up next if that suits the team. I'm on vacation!!

3) Revent is our new Devil's Advocate! I'll do some thinking about Radio, but I'm inclined to think the wonders are too expensive to be worth rushing to Radio. Perhaps we could Lib future tech 1, and get an objective out of the way? Also, going for Radio delays economics, which is lame.

hahahahahaha. I like the way for Trystero break means he can't play and for me it means I can. Age difference much?

Vacation? Clearly grad schools are getting soft.

The holidays mostly mean packing the family into the car and driving up and down I-5. With lots of eating and drinking in-between. I actually get in quite a bit of Civ time, but it's not under conditions conducive to playing Civ4 well.

I'm not sure.

We will certainly part bulb SM if we get a GS in 5 turns, but we will still have to finish the other ~1700 ourselves, and research to within 1 turn of Liberalism.
We are going to have to do this whichever way we go, yes?

Physics & Electricity cost 13,200 beakers, so assuming we use the Physics GS to part bulb Electricity, we still have the other 11,500 beakers to complete.

That is the still 1000 more beakers than all of these put together.
Gunpowder & Chemistry are ~4600 beakers.
Banking & Economics are ~3300 beakers.
Guilds & Philo are ~2800 beakers.
= 10,700 beakers.

We do hope to get Philo and Guilds in trade, but we cannot assume anything.

We will get philo when Qin gets to friendly, as it doesn't provide anything the AI value (no units, no free tech, no religion now, no buildings, no wonders).

We will definitely get guilds as long as both Hammy & Qin have it, but if only 1 does it could easily go either way.

My absolute best case scenario:
Gunpowder & Chemistry are ~4600 beakers.
Banking & Economics are ~3300 beakers.
Guilds & Philo are traded.
Biology at 5600 beakers
= 13,500 beakers and we use the GM for Sushi (about +8fpt) immediately, we are building Banks & maybe Custom Houses, have revolted to FM to get an extra ~60 commerce a turn.

Your absolute best case scenario:
Physics ~6200
Electricity ~7000 (Physics GS reduces this to ~5000)
Guilds & Philo traded.
= 11,200 beakers, and we have windmills & watermills with extra gold, some very expensive wonders we could build, but no GM, no sushi, no FM, no banks.

1) Definitely, the Ducks used this in SGOTM 14 to galleon troops on my Hub map.
I think I might be wrong, let me double check. edit: just checked, I AM wrong, so no forts, it will have to be a city.

2) Excellent :goodjob:

3) Lib FT1, I have put together something in the previous post.

Alright. I will prepare a PPP tomorrow. I'm watching Stanford with the family at the moment (and trying to figure out how to play my offline, now online, game).
