SGOTM 16 - U'nu'sual S'us'pec'ts

Yes, I agree, but it is fascinating.

I think we are getting sidetracked. Trystereo, do you have a pre play plan? What do we need to decide to have Trystero play?

I am going over neilmeister's micro tonight to put a PPP together. It looks like we are going to go with the Worker first plan.

How far should I play? Until the GLH is complete? Or to The Oracle (about 25 turns)? Regardless, finishing the GLH seems like a good point to pause.

Go to GLH at least.

If anyone wants me to put up a spreadsheet with the settler first test, then I can.
I might also try a few different combo's of whipping.

The only other decision point I think we should get consensus on is the build order for City 3. See purple boxes on the spreadsheet.
Do we want a west coast exploring WB before the Granary? I think we do, but that is just my opinion.

neilmeister - I have some micro questions:

1. On turn 62 worker #3 moves to the forest 2 NE of Paris - I think you mean 2 NW
2. On turn 64 you move the research slider to 0%, but don't indicate when it is moved back to 100%. I presume this would be on turn 66.
3. The WB finished in Paris on turn 59 is for exploration, yes?

Edit: I am also confused about the notes for turn 68:
Paris Settler, City 3 Warrior, CANCEL settler move

The "CANCEL" refers to after moving the settler toward the city #4 site, I assume (he can't reach the silk tile until next turn, regardless). But the City 3 Warrior is not done this turn (it finishes next turn) and there is no other city 3 build specified until the WB next turn. Never mind - I missed the tile reassignment when I connected the fish.

Sorry to be nitpicking, I just want to make sure I am 100% sure in all the micro details.

The current plan doesn't have city #4 plans (commerce city). First build = granary? We will also need a work to start cottaging here.

No problem with nitpicking. I want everyone to nitpick the micro & planned builds, that's how we improve it. :)

@ 1, 2 & 3. Yes, you are 100% right on all counts. Paris builds Clams it's WB just after it gets founded. This one is for exploring the east coast.

@ Settler, I kept sending him to the silk tile on a go-to command, and he kept moving on to the tile before the worker had chopped the forest, so it was a reminder more for myself to make sure the settler was not moving, manually click 'chop' on the worker, then the settler can move onto silk and settle the same turn.

@ Tile reassignment, my bad, the spreadsheet didn't mention this.

@ Commerce & Clams cities should probably build warrior MP's to start with. They can then both whip their granaries when they hit pop 4.

Commerce city will have 1 cottage pretty quick, but unfortunately 2 of the 3 workers need to pre-chop Paris to get Oracle in 750bc. A warrior is probably the most sensible first build.

GP Farm could build a worker after it is finished the GLH. It is only pop 2, but cannot grow without unhappiness due to the 2 whips into GLH. It could build a worker with Fish & Pigs pretty quick. Granary was sort of a placeholder.

Worker sounds like a good idea, owing to the happiness issues you indicated and the fact that we will have 2 new cities that will need improvement (OTOH, we can't really do too much with Clams city before we get IW).

Yes, I agree.
We can build it 1 mine, maybe 2 depending on the jungle spread.
Also, it could build and work a few cottages long term for Paris.

Here is my provisional PPP. I propose playing until the GLH is complete. I will need to go over the micro again tomorrow, since neilmeister has been massaging it, but I could play tomorrow night (24 hours from this post) if I get the OK.

1. Technologies

Masonry->Pottery->Mysticism

2. Dealing with AIs

Keep espionage on Brennus. Try to meet the other AI(s) by exploration.

3. City placement and builds

Placements:
Commerce City (#4) will be on the Silk.
Clams City (#5) should be founded at the beginning of the next turnset, south of Paris at 2E1N of the pigs tile.

Builds:
Paris: finish WB->worker->settler->lighthouse(partial)->granary(whip)->lighthouse->WB
City 2: lighthouse(partial)->settler(partial)->lighthouse(whip into GLH)->GLH(partial)->settler(whip into GLH)->worker
City 3: WB(whip)->warrior->exploring WB
City 4: warrior to grow to 4 pop

4. General micro

See https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AlHrhSr1mmwzdHBLNndDR3pVdDV6a19vcmlBSUF1bGc#gid=14

5. Civics and religion

Will watch for religion spread from Brennus

6. War

N/A

7. Bigger picture

The objective of this turnset is to get GLH built, found our commerce city, and try to get a settler to the clams site to secure it for us.

Pause conditions:

-Meet a new AI
-GLH or Oracle built in a far away land
-Brennus settles near/at the clams site
-Barb problems

Ahah, my chance to nitpick. :lol:

City 2: lighthouse(partial)->settler(partial)->lighthouse(whip into GLH)->GLH(partial)->settler(whip into GLH)->GLH->worker

Green from me.

-GLH or Oracle built in a far away land
Nooooooooooooooooo. Positive waves, keep up the positve waves. (Kelly's Heroes reference)

What is the exploration plan?

It's not clear to me from the Trystero Turnset tab on the spreadsheet when exactly you plan to get the Great Lighthouse. Will it be complete on turn 72 after the settler overflow?

Yep, GLH is finished on t72 (1120bc), with overflow from the whipped settler.

@ exploration, there is a WB on t59 to explore on the east side of the empire, and another on t75 (1000bc) to do the west coast. Not sure if there is a plan as such, just explore.

Once City 3 (Production) is about to finish its MP on t69, then Woodie 2 warrior can then go exploring too.

We will build a warrior in city #3 on turn 69, so we can send the Woody 2 warrior stationed there out exploring just before that.
