SGOTM 16 - U'nu'sual S'us'pec'ts

I would rather take a chance on turning 3 forests into 90 gold (which is useful in itself) than take a chance on losing the Oracle. I vote for building the Oracle faster.

A couple of questions about the spreadsheet:

Worker 4 is idle on turn 82. Can't it at least build half a road in that space?

Worker 1 builds a road on turns 76-77, then finishes a half road on turn 78. Doesn't it have to move somewhere to finish the half road?

Paris starts building a Chariot on turn 77. The notes say "Paris Chariot" on turn 79, but then don't say what it builds on turns 79-82. Does it return to building the workboat?

GP Farm now shows Worker -> Pyramids/Granary. I vote Worker - Granary.

I'm making changes to the spreadsheet now. I've found an optimal solution (but it requires us to build a barracks in Paris instead. I don't think that should be a problem however).

See post above in test game. :)

Used 3 workers to chop, no workers are idle. However, I have to micro like crazy to make sure Paris 2 pop whips a barracks with maximum possible overflow (29) then the workers finish chopping 3 forests simultaneously. 29+base+60 must get us 100 for us to 1 turn the oracle so after chopping, I have to adjust the micro again so we can get it in 1 turn.

Truth on all your corrections!

This game will be the end of me

Aren't you glad I recruited you!

I can get us the Oracle on turn 82 without any risk of losing forests into gold if we don't get it.

This looks fantastic. I'm going to trust the micro to you, but the macro looks pretty good. Nicely done. :goodjob:

Yup, really enjoy it! :D The micro tweaking is a real challenge however.

I'm not sure HOW much the real game will vary with overflow, etc..so the Paris build column has some room for ambiguity. The idea is:

Finish Lighthouse->Overflow into Workboat->Build Barracks and put ONLY 19 hammers into it->Swap over to chariot->One turn before priesthood is finished, switch over to barracks, 2 pop whip into Oracle. Next turn, 3 workers chop into it, adjust some micro if necessary based on how many hammers are needed. (Maximum 3 or so, but most likely 0) :)

I can't get the exacts because of course the overflow is slightly different in the test game to the real so I will have to improvise. The only rule that MUST be strict is the worker movements and the hammers invested in the barracks.

Waiting for green light. Feel free to test out :)

Good job. At this point, open items are:

1. Is it worth building a barracks rather than a granary to get Oracle one turn early? I vote yes.

2. What to build in GP Farm? I prefer granary but will vote in favor of any combination of granary, workers, and chariots.

You mean barracks rather than chariots :)
I went for a granary but anything goes. That doesn't effect the oracle build. We could go granary->until size 3->Worker->finish granary->whip out chariots if that is any good.
But we will also have MC then so we want half price forges in almost all cities :)

I think you are talking about GP Farm. Item 1 was about "barracks in Paris + Oracle faster" vs "Granary in Paris + Oracle slower." That is the choice, right? At any rate, I vote in favor of the barracks plan.

Any build in GP Farm that includes granary or chariots or workers is fine with me. I prefer Granary. I like granary->until size 3->Worker->finish granary->whip out chariots for GP Farm.

Paris already has a granary. Previously, it was set to build chariots but I added barracks first rather than the chariots to get the max whip overflow.

GP farm can do any of those 3. They all seem good and reasonable.

I'll wait for 2 more greens before I start. :) (Depending on how active the others are, I may end up playing tomorrow morning GMT)

Stop conditions:
*Meet another AI
*The Oracle has been built in a far away land
*Barbs giving noobie me trouble

I'm still paranoid about the barbarian.
Are we building Lyon immediately, and without defense? Is it still early enough that barbs don't enter our borders?
Why is Paris building a WB? (for Lyon - duh) Why is it labeled "west coast exploring"? (that one comes from Production city)

I'm impressed with and green for the micro & Oracle plan.

A stop condition is if the barb bothers me.
Our plan will need to be adjusted slightly so I'll start playing now. Post an update if that barb is trouble.

(Bear in mind if our initial warrior dies, I can send over our woods 2 warrior to finish him off)

Just an update. Sadly, our warrior did indeed die despite the odds favouring us.
Luckily, I moved our woods warrior in for the kill the previous turn. It has 96% odds of winning. I'm going to move it there otherwise it'll be trouble.

GUYS! We are NOT semi-isolated!
I just met Ramsess. He has built us the ToA and ONLY has two cities!
Turn 78 :)

Carry on?

I'll use my own judgement within the next 30 (and continue). I would ideally like to get some sleep soon and don't want to delay my turnset any longer!

OK, be careful. Get sleep if you think you your play could be impaired.

I lost a city yesterday in an xOTM because I didn't distinguish that units with almost same color belonged to different civ's.

My play should be fine. I'm checking the spreadsheet before and after every irreversible action to make sure everything is going fine. I've only got 3 or 4 turns left anyway (these are the easier turns with almost no room for error).

However, do I get a green light to go?

Well, I assumed by be careful, that was a yes :p
So I carried on!

We have used The Oracle to get Metal Casting :D

Will give some talk through the next post!

Edit: Where do I upload the save?
