SGOTM 18 - Kakumeika

Maybe we can learn for when we play next time, that in the past (includes this game) we did not always take the best route.

I i. e. also said things like "don't build a Stable in Pigs, it won't pay back" , which was true, aswell as "you'll not get a vote for Construction from me" , and then we built like maybe 4 Catapults over the whole game because we got Trebs afterwards.

Worst errors happen without noticing or from not adapting though.

Just think of how many turns Lib -> Railroad would have been. Yes, Lib -> Railroad alone would probably have been enough to beat Plastic Ducks.

And then imagine, what would have been if we had used the GE for the UN, skipped Railroad completely and simply whipped the Paratroopers.

Arguing about those points is allowed, but I'm very sure that we already had won the game and then lost it in the end because we had too little fun / wasted too much time in the beginning. Micro decisions like a handful of units here or there are unimportant when we commit errors against the good advice that was there from others, and when we don't even notice when we make the greatest errors from all because we don't discuss something through only because it sounds or reads good.

I'm still reading the other's threads, I can't believe that we lost to PD by 2T,* what I heard we were way before them most of the time.
*4 turns. ;)

The signup thread for SGOTM-19 has opened. I looks very interesting.

bcool recently stated that he will not have enough time to participate. Who wants to continue team Kakumeika for the new SGOTM?

We can continue to use the name Kakumeika or choose another name, if a majority prefers.

Well done on the medal, people. Thanks for the game - sorry I was so useless. My "holiday" in Australia in December ended up having zero time for gaming, sorry

Thanks also for bcool for his captaincy over the years, I've enjoyed playing with him and you all.

That said, I'm retiring from SGOTM also. I enjoy the game and the discussion, but since work often involves solving problems via detailed discussion mostly on forums, it's hard to muster the enthusiasm to do so for fun! Best of luck in your future endeavours!

Well, nearly 40 hours without a response to my post quoted above (other than mabraham's which I just noticed). This seems to suggest that Kakumeika is being disbanded or at least skipping a SGOTM or two, before being reformed under another name perhaps. Kakumeika was a fun journey. I will miss playing with all former Kakumeika members (including DanF5771, frogdude, Lowthercastle, shulec, Tachywaxon, TheMeInTeam, and Walter_Wolf who did not play with us in SGOTM-18)!

SGOTM-19 has a new three month time limit with no possibility of an extension. This and several new rules, including making worker poaching impractical and limiting liberation bonus to +1 for each live AI is turning SGOTM-19 into a game I find much less appealing than my quoted post above suggested. So its unlikely that I will even signup with another team or as an unallocated player; that may change though - never say never.

A special thanks to the SGOTM-18 Kakumeika team members: bcool, Kaitzilla, mabraham, Seraiel and WaistinTime! It was great playing this final game with you (as well as previous SGOTMs we shared)!

Certainly time to thank all the Kaku team members for their efforts these past 2 years :D

Was a total blast trying to beat the best civ players in the world. :mischief:

Ever since I joined this site, I've kept saying "I was promised FANATICS!" and here they all are, so thanks for helping me compete in the big leagues among them.

Good night Kakumaniacs :)

It looks like PD and your team gave up on SGOTM at same time. Such a shame really. Many people enjoyed comparing the threads of the top teams. Let's hope these games do not become one horse races. There are still 5-6 teams for interested players to join.

BjornBorg ang Jimmy Connor retired, but the games go on. Sad to see the greats sit it out, but there are a lot of greats who are ready to step up and take some laurels, no doubt.

And its not too late for another thriller in manilla.:mischief:
