SGOTM 19 - Also Sprach Sid

Too bad about Alpha. :badcomp:

Ok with the northern micro, no strong preference concerning your Sheepish suggestions (working the PH is fine).

Don't know if you wanted to push all the way to the actual attack of Constantinople today, but if you did you'll have to do without me because it'll be too late.

Yes, no worries with the time zone.

Anyone can take over, and if that happens tomorrow so be it. :)

I'll wait to receive some more feedback. If no-one else has responded by ~9:30 EST, I'll run with my own preferences, since you (pomthom) have given them the ok as well.

Agree with micros, good to go. I guess you intend to sacrifice the scout next turn when the archer turn back to gold sand.

Edit: Do we want to switch the build in capital to market? since we should be able to send 1 axe in Sheepish if we need more axes to take Asoka.

Yes, if the Archer goes 1NW or NE.

If the Archer moves onto the Rice, the Axe will be able to kill him. The Archer is at 2.8/3 health with Cover. The Scout can then move to explore around the Wheat.

I placed OF from the last Axe into another one. I know that earlier we had discussed building a Market, but if Asoka packs 5–6 Archers in his capital, we will either be delayed (to build a larger stack) or suffer heavy losses. Either way, an Axe seemed more useful to me (or: if the RNG proves bad, we would gain more from an Axe than we would from a Market, if the RNG goes our way).

I'm happy to build a Market after the present Axe, although we will only have one turn before unhappiness hits the capital. I will switch to a Settler when that happens.

T60 Asoka:

Spoiler :

Kublai founded Islam as well as Hinduism:

Spoiler :

Typical Spain.

Southern barbs:

Spoiler :

Northern barbs:

Spoiler :

Barb Axe died. The Archer is nearly healthy (2.7/3, IIRC).

----

Go for Asoka? I summarized my tests earlier.

Also: I'll build a Library in Rice Pudding and grow to size 6. The Scout will be sacrificed to move the Archer away from the Gold. And I can improve the Rice.

Execute your original if you don't see 5 archers in Asoka's capital.

Don't produce barrack in Sheepish, we probably never need it there.

We can only hope that Asoka won't produce any archer in the next 2 turns. Let's hope some luck back. As I always say, the luck is balance.

Library in Sheepish? It will be a commerce city soon enough.

In the north, we have a few options, of which I prefer:

Spoiler :

The other option that I thought about is using the Settler as bait.

I would prefer to sacrifice the scout, because the Archer behavior is unpredictable, and we have seen that the northern Archer eventually ignored our Worker by the Rice. But I would be amazed if the Archer passes up a 100% battle.

I can understand wanting to preserve the Scout, though, so let me know.

This is FYI:

Spoiler :

Note also that we are slightly short of :gold: to maintain a 100% slider next turn.

Building wealth somewhere will solve the problem. Whether be able to push to Lit really depends on whether we could capture Asoka's capital.

Yes, sac the scout as I mentioned already.

In today's episode of "barbs do the darndest things":

Spoiler :

Asoka still has four defenders:

Spoiler :

If you look closely, you'll see that a Combat I Archer has been replaced by an unpromoted Archer.

---

As ever, let me know what you think.

Sadly it will take three turns to reconnect the Gold. I can 3-pop whip a Library in Rice Pudding (it has two unhappy citizens now). Case Depart will build a Settler, with one unhappy citizen.

I will promote our Axe to Combat I before attacking the moron barb. Unpromoted, we only have 94% odds... so no doubt an instant :suicide:

Not the worst case that the archer climb the gold hill and then pillage it.

I guess that Asoka's archer went 2N so that it won't be able to come back. Pray for 4 archers!

Any idea of when to finish Lit if we could capture Asoka's capital next? Can we lower the slider just to complete Aes this turn?

This is what I am thinking:

T61

Sheepish Axe kills Warrior:

Spoiler :

Case Depart Axe moves 2SW:

Spoiler :

Worker moves:

Spoiler :

Will I need to block the FPs, which has an incomplete road (2/3 turns)? AI seem to do everything contrary to my expectation in this game.

I am worried about the southern Archer trying to retreat into the capital.

T62

Workers can road this tile, if we need the Axe:

Spoiler :

The Workers are supposed to Cottage 1SW of Sheepish this turn and the next. On T63, the city's borders expand.

:please:

What will happen will happen.

The game says 6 turns. I haven't tested that far.

Perhaps it will be five? We are not currently working the Gold, and we have three unhappy citizens thanks to the Archer.

We still need to trade for or extort Polytheism.

No need to block the FP, it's good that it goes there as we might have an extra axe to kill that archer.

Aesthetics is 476/487 :science: currently.

Literature:

Spoiler :

We are working the Rice > Gold this turn (3 turns to grow).

We could stop researching for a turn. Rice Pudding will have a Library on T62.

I am also a little worried about generating lots of beaker OF, and failing to capture Constantinople on T62. If that happens, we will be forced to trade Currency for Polytheism, or put our OF into a third tech (Priesthood, I suppose).
