SGOTM 22 - Anti-TSR

You want to send one warrior on the last galley space? or you want me to send WoodyII over?
The reconnaissance unit will teleport to the jungle sometwhere and will be vulnerable, but also able to steal workers. Whatever you think.

I still want 2 chariots for grabbing Baghdad.
Are you thinking before or after Mecca?

We can't afford to sit in the water paying 28 gpt (unit suppy+maintenance) on our army. I want the city and the conquest gold too, and we have to try hard not to burn gold on upgrades. I think we need enough gold to be first to Music. And we can't just beat them to it by a couple turns cus then they'll finish it and we'll have a hard time getting Sistine.
Again I'm not sure what you're thinking. You're planning 7 units +chariot for Mecca, iiuc. Pollina thinks we'll need 12-14 cat/prats.

What I'm thinking is that we're a long ways from 12-14 cat/prats, so our 7+1 can sit there at the ready, in case there's an opportunity for a 2-defender Mecca attack. That assumes 2 defenders and Mecca obviously building something other than a unit.

Whatever maintenance hit this all involves is a short-term, one-off plan to capture Mecca which will all by itself pay back hugely with its shrine, SH, and villages.

I don't see how we can even plan for Baghdad, because we'll likely have almost nothing left after capturing Mecca. We might not even be able to continue warring without a CF or losing Mecca, or having to gifft Mecca to someone else temporarily.

Furthermore, I'd rather capture Damascus after Mecca, to free up the iron tile so we can unload IC.

Continuing my stream of consciousness...:)...to get the gold tile, we'll need Baghdad plus 5t for border expansion plus raze Najran and Baghdad is crap without razing Medina as well. I don't see how we can get Mecca and the gold before Zeus falls to someone. SHould we focus on Mecca and an ivory tile? Or maybe someone will have a gold for trade.

.

I'd rather grab a city when we can (like Baghdad) to help build more units. Maybe get a CF?
so yeah, I'm still keeping the option open to take it with our first army of 8 + 2chariots.

I'll still try to plan for an efficient build up so we could wait out Mecca if ya'all want to, but I will be tempted if I see a size 10 Baghdad ripe for whipping.

I'd take Damascus over Baghdad every day of the week. No cultural interference, pop15, many forests, tons of food, lots of healthies. Of course, probably defended by 10XP lbms.

Well, maybe we shoulda roaded to Damascus instead of building boats.
Exactly, and the use our paratroopers for our T+0 capture... :p

I harken back to your idea of using our galleys to cross the channel from our west (Sal, Gilga) to our east (Brennus). No doubt in my mind galleys rock in this game.

I thought I was going to be able to make it 1 turn (T112 anarchy), but then I found this:

Spoiler :

Darius is roading Rome-3W and...
Spoiler :
5 workers total!

I'll stop for advice.

We need 8+ warsuccess to CF in 2t. That's easy in this case, since we can also capture a worker at DaGift. What's your recommendation? Do we need the workers? We surely wouldn't need to worry about farming Rome anymore or completing chops and the other winery.

Could we somehow wait till after we steal Currency?

I don't really want to pay for 5 workers right now, but we could always disband some

Looking closer. We won't get 5 workers. The worker in our land will teleport to DaGift. That means we won't get the bump in WarSuccess either.

Appears Darius will have extra Stone some day, so we don't really want him too mad. Good news is: he will trade Stone at Cautious.

Actually, if we're not in a hurry for 5 workers, then let's wait 2t to steal Currency and then steal the workers that we can.

We work 3 wineries in Bovino and lots of farms in rapidly growing Rome and the coins pay for the workers.

yea, I know. And currency is coming to help pay.

I estimate we should have enough cash for Lit (4) and Music(12) after only 4-5 turns of max gold. Less gold needed if we capture something.
However, I'd like to keep enough gold for some emergency upgrades so we can't necessarily race to Music that soon.

We could wait until the DaGift worker has roaded some more for us and left our culture. Maybe we can catch a group of workers on a different Stone.

I suppose I can roll the turn and then we can decide.

Right and the distance to Darius stone+ivory city is 10 (3 different landing tiles), distance to DaGift is 11.

No, it's 13, not 10.
you have to calculate from the closest city (DaGift), closest city based on your start position, not your jumpto tile.
so it's:

8 + 2.5 * 2 =13

No, it's 13, not 10.
you have to calculate from the closest city (DaGift), so it's:

8 + 2.5 * 2 =13
The way I've always done it is calculate to each city.

DaGift: 0 + 5.5 * 2 = 11
Ivory: 4.5 + 3 * 2 = 10

Always worked for me.

In other words, it's 2 times the distance out of enemy culture (toward ______ city) + 1 times the distance to ______ city, where _________ is (DaGIft or Ivory).
