[BTS] SGOTM 26 - Home Slices

Wow, I missed all of this. I think you added it after you had posted your original comment. I suggest that you not "edit" an existing post other than to fix typos or to clarify existing text. To edit a post and add a ton of additional information is subject to being missed by others. I think putting new stuff like this in a new post is much better. End rant. ;)
Or just make a new post announcing the original post has been substantively changed. That allows one post to contain all relevant stuff. ;)

PR

For those who missed it, PR got the CS slingshot (in all likelihood) T84, revolted to Bureau, and got IW T85.

That’s after CoL on ~T78 and revolting to Confu.

Daring btards, risking a slow Oracle like that...

Note that their slow Oracle increased their chances of Confu holy city on Stone island at least somewhat. But having all 7 cities lowered it.

why would they switch into a religion?
Above my pay grade, Maestro. You tell me.

I haven’t studied Fippy’s or elite’s play but my impression from this SG is that they have a strategy of doing things ASAP, whatever it is, settling, whatever.

Wait... maybe Castes??? Presumably they’ve had libraries for a while, maybe to crank out a GS? Bulb Philo?

If they didn't get any failgold, maybe they had to bulb Math and then Oracle CS.
explains the delay from CoL to Oracle.

Plus, if they bulb Philo when they get CS, they can revolt to bureau+pacifism. Having planned that, they knew castes was another turn of revolts so why not sooner?.

maybe but I doubt it. I think they got math on t71. They’ve been researching much faster than we have. They have lower maintenance don’t forget.

Settling 2clams on T5 hardly slowed them at all at first.

they'd need math and alpha to get Philo. And then they need to spread religion or Pacifism has no effect...but I like the brainstorming.

But it doesn't add much to research. Breakeven at size 2. I'm sure they don't regret settling it now that we've seen the map, but it shouldn't have put them ahead of us. We've been sacrificing growth for immediate tech needs so I can't wait to see if they're actually ahead in research. How much of your chart reading is science and how much is art?

Some things are certain.
T14 AH (didn’t slow workers)
Myst, Sailing, Mng same as us. BW 1t ahead but shouldn’t have been ofc.

Then it gets iffy.

Meanwhile their pop was quite a bit ahead of us. They farmed the rice first and grew Science. 2clams was far ahead of Canal.

T49 they teched something (we TW), but I don’t see the +4K power change. Instead +2k. Did they whip away 2k power? Not according to their score, which would reflect that noticeably. T49 Masonry? Could be, for GLH. Their culture jumps about 6cpt on T56. Could Cows build GLH in 7t, with maxOF from lh and chops? Seems like close to 100h in chops or a second maxOF.

Originally I thought the 6 culture spike was from whipping 3 libraries, but again, I don’t see the massive drop in pop from 2- or 3-whipping.

So I’m perplexed because whipping can decrease power while teching increases it. Up till BW it was easy to follow. Then there’s the uncertainty of when they settled cities.

Clear power jump on T71, maybe corresponding to T71 Math (+6k). Clear culture jump T77 for Confu. T84 Oracle clear from culture. T85 IW from the +10k power. Two revolts certain from the culture graph.

What really makes this possible is PR saving almost every turn. Culture goes to 0 during revolt, for example.

PR Scenario 1: Beelined BW-Writing, skipping TW-Pottery

Then the T71 +6k power could indicate a late TW. Whipped 3 libraries T55? Why no drop in score and power?

PR Scenario 2: TW-Pottery-Writing

What caused the T56 jump from 6cpt to 12cpt?

This should be obvious but I’m missing it. We have a lot of data.

GLH makes sense, right?
Sounds like we're going to find out hard early GLH is going to be to overcome. With only 1 island, it's a bit crippled unless they explored and found a few AI.

If we are semi-isolated with Sitting Bull only, then GLH is crippled ya.

If they can meet a ton of AI cities, stay at peace with them, and build harbors and custom houses, they can reach +4:gold: per turn trade routes.

Custom houses cost almost as much as universities.
Takes 90 turns to overcome fail gold I think.

What an exciting game :)

I too favor Colossus.
We can DOW the whole world and it pays the same each turn.

If we are going for mass scientists and meet a bunch of AI, then GLH would be better I think.

I like the sound of that. :ar15:
My calculations say that Oxford and Colossus will each give about the same boost, so making that a serious target before Edu is probably fine.
Oxford is a bit better, but it's also a much longer road.
In my BC space game, I was able to get a lot of failgold from Colossus, but then again I was IND (cheap forges). We need something after Moai.

Riddle me this.

T70 PR uploads the file twice. Before and after whipping, as seen by the lower score in the second save. Note how the graph shows the sequence of the saves with the continuous graph line.

T72, they upload twice again. This time their score goes up!!! Almost 30 points!!! WTH? How did they increase their score:
  • Pop @ 9pts per pop
  • Techs @ 6 pts per tech (or 12 for classical)
  • Wonders @~16 pts per wonder?
Alphabet + met civs??? Alpha trades + bulb Philo ? Philo is 18 pts.

If they built a library T55, corresponding to the culture spike, 17t later = T72, they could pop a GS. Problem is, their culture jumps 5cpt on T75, not before.

Note their power also went up 2k:

Alpha is 4k so maybe they got it T71, then had to gift something before they could get something T72, but there are no remaining techs with 2k power.

This is baffling.
