What if we focused on Friendly Peter?
We have a galley and a missionary near Cow City.

What if we converted Peter to Confu religion right now?
He gets up to +5 relations with shared religion.

We tech Alphabet.
Give him all of our techs except code of laws and civil service.
We need 2 religions for monasteries and cathedrals?

We get +1 relations for every 5 techs we trade to him.

The missionary can get off at that huge island and walk west while our exploration galley unloads scout in Peter land to explore and goes back to grab missionary.

We are at +6 with Peter after 5 tech gifts and can give him resources once we find his cities.

We get 20% bonus to tech Currency.
We can bulb Philosophy as soon as possible.
We rapidly speed up the tech of Sitting Bull and Peter.
We can get Iron Working from Peter as soon as he meets Sitting Bull.
Cow City can whip monastery and missionary instead of Lighthouse and Library.
Capital can keep building Mids and Research.
We can send a spy down from Canal to steal whatever Sitting Bull manages to tech for us.

**Edit**
Darn WT, I spent 30 minutes writing my post!

After losing some sleep, I did come up with this solution to our Philo bulb problem. How to get the 300gpp GS before our GAge.
Answer: we don't get a 300gpp person before the GAge.
We get Philo free from the AI.

All you do is make sure to give them Meditation + CoL on (or before) the turn they get a GS.
If you see the birth announcement, it's not too late (unless they don't even have Priesthood yet)
They will bulb Philo.
They should get a GS with just a library, but we could put them in Caste. Would they then get a GM? Hmm.
I hope Peter doesn't get a GS before Alpha.

Both SB and Peter are PHI leaders, so GS's should come.

We need Friendly SB or Peter
It appears we can all share a religion since no one else has one. Maybe even get free spread to Peter :please:
It seems NZ has made it fairly easy to cooperate:
+1 shared tech (Peter only requires 5 tech gifts!, SB needs 20)
Shared Civic? Peter: Bureaucracy!
We gotta get Peter some resource trades as soon as we are connected.
tl;dr: Moscow is pop5 and has had a library for 11t.

T80 Moscow has 313 :culture:, 22 more than Cahokia. That can only come from a library. He needs 9t for GS #1 minimum and the academy is 4:culture: so that would be 24, I think. Plus we didn’t see the message in the last 3t. Moscow is only pop5, so might be running only 1sci or it’s about to pop a GS.

If he’s been running 1sci, we have 6t to get Alpha and gift him Meditation and (Phood)-CoL

Btw: Peter would need meditation plus COL Plus alphabet !!!

Remember in that one Siberian railroad SG I screwed that up.

In short, Alpha probably gets us IW immediately, at a minimum, and sooner or later a free Philo. We’ll have to trade Peter CS to get it, which puts him into Bureau and Friendly. We cultivate Peter as our Tech partner.

The only downside to common religion is -15% on espy steals.

Plus, according to WT, who cares if we don’t get IW for 20t, right? (I think it will take that long for Peter and SB to meet.

Full circle

Techs we can patiently get for free:
Iron working
Alphabet
Philosophy

Techs we likely won’t get for free:
Paper

Paper appears to be our only good chance to meet or locate AIs soon. We preferably meet them before we switch to religion, so Paper seems to dovetail with that too.

Maybe instead of rushing to get one of these, we plan for how soon we need them all?

One thing that wasn't mentioned was that GLib requires Literature which is NOT on our tech path. Who knows when we could get it in trade, if ever. I thing GLib is looking worse and worse.

I'm on the fence between Paper and Currency. Peter seems to be doing well and he will tech Alphabet eventually, right? In the test game, one of the AI is already almost done with it.

First Confucian Monastery

Not in Science, because after Bureau it can’t maxOF 2whip missionaries. Either Canal or Silver, depending which can afford more unhappiness. Maybe Canal since its gene pool is corrupted for GS spamming.

We're still shooting for a 100% GE from Cows, right? Will that be at 300 GPP or the 400 GPP? Or are we going to try for a few low-probablility GEs?

Will Peter switch to Taoism after he found it? How's his wonder preference? After he is friendly, will he still refuse to trade philosophy because he is building Angkor Wat?
One thing that wasn't mentioned was that GLib requires Literature which is NOT on our tech path.
It is not if national Epic is not in urgent need. But we need the G.Artist from music. Better not wait for someone else to trade it ( he may refuse because he's getting G.lib himself ).

Techs we can patiently get for free:
Iron working
Alphabet
Philosophy
Also free:
Monarchy
Poly
Mono
Aesthetics
Literature
Construction
Drama
Calendar (very patient, after Biology)

Questionable:
Feudalism
Compass,
Optics
Engineering

Probably can't wait for :
MetalCasting. Why? cus what else do we research after Paper?
MC, Machinery, (Feudal?) Guilds, Banking (Merc)

I thing GLib is looking worse and worse.
Right. Parthenon (which I wasn't crazy about until MoM was off the table) gives about 350gpp in EACH city.
GLib gives maybe 500-600 in one city.
It's really not an option. Sankore is stone and it's the perfect thing to do since Science can't do Moai

First Confucian Monastery

Not in Science,
Disagree. Science has almost nothing to do. It can 2-whip a monastery right after the warrior+Mids. Then, missionaries come out 2 every 5 turns while it's anger wears off.
It is growing so slowly (especially if using gems) that it will probably only want to 1-whip a missionary so it can add population. It needs to get big to be able to whip a University.
Currency? Education.
Currency is before Paper and Edu is dbl bulbed.
