Now science city has 35:science: from temple and specialist; base commerce 45:commerce:*50% capital bonus=67. Assuming we have 100% research slider for 80% of the remaining time and science doesn't grow...on average every turn an academy will provide an extra (35:science:+67:commerce:*80%)*50%=44.3:science:. We still have 60+ turns left?
I want to say 50 turns, but I have not crunched the numbers.
To tackle 64000:science: RAW, we need to get over 1000:science: per turn.

An Academy?
2200:science: does sound appealing.
Science will keep growing and add more specialists.
And we no longer need burst teching to reach Sushi or Astro as fast as possible.

What does everyone think of an Academy now that we can stay in Bureau and our National Park is online?

:hammer2:Of course!
:bowdown:Thanks! MirrorGuard:worship:

 I can't believe I'm so brainwashed/prejudiced against an Academy that I dismissed the idea so quickly.
:blush: I'm doubly embarrassed that I didn't even check the numbers after you suggested it.
If we had 40 cities with sushi we could bulb 5000, but not this game.
A Bureaucratic National Park?
I don't see there being any debate--now that rushing Astro is off the table. Academy for sure!

The Academy will be doing +51 already when it is founded 162.
We will probably get 3500-4000:science: from it. What were we thinking?

Is Bismarck plotting against someone?
I see the fist icon.
Peace Treaty implies it is not Holy Roman Empire?
Crap. It might be Peter?
What can we do? He might be plotting the rest of the game. I guess on T165, I do this...
BTW, do we beg some money from Bismark? There is a small chance that he is planning a war on us. During peace treaty he may give up on the plan.

Bulbing Education got us an absurdly early Oxford, and we did not even get a gem mine until T115.

Plus, we thought we were doing Conquest the whole game.
Nothing is better for fast conquest on a map like this than Astronomy.
1700:science: in Astro is like 2040:science: in another tech.

Once we switched to UN, that is when the Academy's bigger number of beakers started to make sense.

Sushi ate up all of our Great Scientists, and we weren't even sure we'd have one extra until mid T140's.

Crap. It might be Peter?

I can't recall begging ever stopping a war plot, just delaying it 10 turns.
I still think as long as only we and Peter have Astro, we will be fine.
They can't DOW until they land troops near Whale City.

Worst case scenario, for UN votes we must sink every invasion fleet with Privateers before they can reach our borders.
A DOW means we lose +1 peace and +2 open borders making +8 diplo vote impossible!

I can check it later if you want. I didn't get numbers on the turn I accidentally ended early...
I don't care about the old numbers so much as having someone agree that there is 34 (which should not be possible if 22 was right) unless he switched builds.
Anyway, I'll go under the assumption that another Trireme could be coming.

Turnset Report 161 - 171-ish

PPP here

161

Cottage 9:gold: crab 2:gold:
Caravel wins, 1.0 health
killed workboat

Louis will only give 75:gold: of 80 for Calendar. Good enough.

162
Bis
completes Chichen
He is now researching Lit (2) I'll get 20:gold: from him for it.

We build the MirrorGuard Academy :hatsoff:
for +53.5:science:

We set 2 traps for the excess longbows in MC, let's if he falls for any.
a) he tries to send lbs to Cahokia
b) Baitzilla to the south (not a sacrifice, just tempting lure.

18:gold: from cottage, the last pillagable thing.

Cahokia
build another Trireme

163
Bismarck
picks Engineering

51:gold
from Chichen. Small gamble, but it seemed 99% likely he'd do that over Paya and we don't have the resource for Paya.

 Sal declares war on HRE!

SB Trireme attacks Caravel+Tri stack and loses.
SB Trireme attacks Caravel+Tri stack and loses (Caravel defends twice).
3rd Tri is trying to sail around us.

Sushi is spread everywhere.
We net more seafood, so I renegotiate:
Fur for clam +2:gold:
Sushi is now +11 food (that extra 7 food cost us 9gpt, no surprise there)

SB cannot resist Baitzilla. Sends 1 longbow
The only way back to MC is over flat land. We have 4 muskets to kill and cover the injured.

Peter drops to Astro(13)
Peter gets Constitution for Drama + 60 + map.

Spy
steals 33:gold: and survives!

164
Sal
gets a GG. War must be going well for him.

SB Tri
attacks our Caravel that is in the block position in our culture. It was almost healed from the very first Tri battle. We win again (1.5 health)
Cover Musket (98%+) gets 1xp for the longbow, and 1GG point...leaving 6.
2 Cats later, we have a new GG! And it was born in Science . He buys a house near his general friend.

Starvation blockade is now active again.
Galley with 2 workers has 100% clear path home.
2nd Galley has to detour 1 tile to get Baitzilla and is in range of a new, 5th Trireme in MC, so we cover him with an almost healed Combat1 Caravel. The Tri will likely see our naked Galley with 2 workers and 'tri' to reach it, but it's too far.

Still no harbor in Moscow.

165
Game crashed but it was saved, so resuming from manual save.

Bis will not DoW anyone.
Beg 10:gold:, fist disappears!
Bis will now only DoW Charley. Thx again MirrorGuard.
Guilds to Bis for war.

Peter is forced into REP with Liberalism. (got 20:gold:)

SB Tri sailed around our caravel to try to reach the galley.
Another longbow has been suckered into the north trap. He thinks he will make it to Cahokia. :sniper:

166

I did it! I massaged the MM and basically built wealth for 5 turns. We managed to hold 100% research with 2 cents left over. I hardly made sacrifices. Mostly working an engineer instead of a scientist in places where it gave us the forge bonus, etc.

So, we need to prep some buildings now, but it's fine. Our cities are happily growing almost every turn. I wouldn't have wanted to whip yet anyway. I'll pause before end-turn and put out an updated PPP with actual builds in the queues.

But first the news...

We get a 20xp Cat! Coincidentally, we learn Military Tradition! and can start WestPoint (only 49 turns).

Steel (5)

1500:gold: trade mission. No harbor. Size 11.

Louis built AWat. We missed out on that.

clearing up some ?? and details from the PPP

Profit can put OF into Academy--sorry, to be clear, a ConfuAcademy (cathedral) even tho it has no temple! (all you need is a temple somewhere)
Also, I'm gonna whip ch now instead of next turn so I can get the ch benefit and build wealth next turn.

I'm going to try to smuggle all 3 workers home, even Baitzilla. We can use chariot bait if we want to.

Other cities will do some wealth instead of prepping for whips to get us to 166.
We've already discussed that our cities should grow a bit and work some specialists, then whip at higher population.

And before our spy gets caught doing nothing, I'd like to steal some gold.
But not yet cus he's been spending. Sometime before 166, I'll need it.

Before I forget, if we have to tech Communism ourselves, then the GSpy+PhysicsGS puts us one different GP from another GA with possibilities for free civics changes at end game. What’s more lucrative?
