[BTS] SGOTM 26 - Unusual Suspects

Sorry my bad. My memory told me eiffel was engineer points. I never build it for the gpp anyway.
Skipping massmedia would be nice in any scenario. Wouldn't be a pity to control the AP either.

The idea with aest oracle is to set up glib as fast as possible. I think I did a calculation for the astro bulb in the past about the science gpp points being faster than oracling machinery. That could have been with philosifical trait. I can do it again after the midsummer weekend if you guys can wait.

I would propose a short PPP:

  • Gold up until we can 100% mining. Then tech mining. (~ 5 or 6 turns).
  • Bib starts on library.
  • Tolosa puts hammers into SH.
  • Open Borders with SB.
  • Vienne's workboat puts a couple of turns scouting the northern island. Then moves to scout SB's lands. Vienne builds another WB to improve it's seafood.
  • Southern WB's scout SB's lands. Look at corners for lucky diagnoal links to other landmasses.
Grander strategy is still open. I don't think we want to commit to oracle without getting at least two of Mining / Wheel / Sailing first.

Might as well keep discussing longer strategy in the meantime.... though I have nothing to add really at this point.

@kcd_swede - you're several hours ahead of me, so if you have time in your evening and want to play instead, go for it. I'll assume if I don't hear from you in the next 6 hours, that I'm still it.

Nz confirmed that bc tower by eiffel is ok.
I'm a bit tempted to go for ap just because the other teams probably don't. If we gonna have a chance on second or first place we have to do something different.

Write-up

Played to turn 50. (6 turns to get mining).

No major events. No wonders. No new religions.

SB hasn't met anyone yet. It says our Exports is -2 on demographics. Maybe that means SB has sailing?

Some new scouting - finished scouting the North island, and scouting the West side of SB's lands. He has a decent chunk of land, but it looks pretty resource poor. I would expect the AI's to be moving slow.

Good job! I need a day or two to check things out before I can say anything about what's up.

We should as Zhary suggests start looking at strategy alternatives in more detail, like minimum tech path, GPP to aim for, specialization of cities, etc.

@ChrisShaffer
Yeah let us just find iron first. If we need to take the other world by force. Gallychained cannons are my top pick.
It feels like we might have to take a chance on a peacefull or aggressive approach soon. Oracle seems better for war and ap for peace. (If we think no ai will reach massmedia before we could have a lab and indpark up.)

Anybody give it any thought yet? Been a couple of days.

CS sling:
Pros:
  • Gets us a lot of beakers, and makes education easier. Oxford must be built, and only needs 1 uni, so getting it early should help a lot.
Cons:
  • No AP - have to UN for diplomatic possibility. (no, GLH). Heavily favors a conquest game - which may be at odds with all the other building we need to do.
AP:
Pros:
  • Easy path to victory.
  • Aligns well with the other requirements we need to do anyway (like temple everywhere, and have a religion everywhere).
Cons:
  • idk - I've never played diplomatic games with aggressive AI - does that impact it much?

I'm not competent enough to give good ideas. Where's everyone?

@kcd_swede - I don't exactly feel like I am either.

I think Diplo might be easier than Conq - by the main reason that we need to build a lot of stuff, and building a lot of stuff gets in the way of conquest - and since we can't hold onto what we conquer, we can't really use the snowball effect - though we could possibly get lots of free techs or money from conquest.

Gotta find out what's going on overseas too - have to watch out for a runaway AI later on.
