[BTS] SGOTM 26 - Unusual Suspects

To add one more thing to the equation, with a cs sling around turn 60 our capital choice is important. I think A looks like a better burocap.

@DynamicSpirit - Good points. I think it's a really bad idea to found the 3rd city before we scout more.
@Zhary - It's good to know the CS sling is available at T-60, but I'm not sure we should bank our strategy on that, since we don't know what the actual AI will be doing.
  • I'm good to SIP E and scout for 5, then settle A most likely in place.
  • Also good to SIP A, and scout for 5, then decide how to settle in the E / clam rice area.

We seem to be at a standstill here. We really need to make a decision.

Anyone want to take a vote on current options?

My vote is to settle A in place, scout for a few, then settle E. A is the better capitol right now, and we likely see something in the next 60 turns that impacts our strategy. So gut feeling is that A gives us the best most immediate gains, and we adjust to what comes later.

(Mostly just gut feeling, so I am open to the settle E option too.)

I don't think there's any controversy about moving D SW to check the coast before we settle. Any chance of a screenshot of that area to make sure it doesn't change anything?

I'm also good with moving d now. Idon't have time to play today but I have uploaded the save if someone wants to take a look.
Something I haven't tried yet but might be an idea is cap at A tech myst first to sip E with a monument to border pop.
I should be able to do the first turns next week. If it's OK with you that I continue.

Not from me. Seems wise, even.

I can get some time later today to move D SW.

  • Should I settle A if D doesn't reveal any seafood, or are we still debating A vs E?

Wait with settling, please. Let me check the myst alternative first, or did everybody except me already vote for A cap?

I'm OK with SIP A.

Was discussion of E as Bureaucracy Capital planning for A building Oracle (must be coastal)?

Map:
  • Highlands is pretty similar to archipelago. Can corroborate, that each AI has between 2 and 4 coast in their first ring, with an average of 6.3 tiles land. Map probably heavily cooked to take out green tiles near us (maybe everywhere?), and probably get rid of horses, and/or pigs.

Nothing.

Should I hang onto the save or upload it? I can play the settle-turn once we decide where settle.

Updated save. I've been playing around with combinations of A and E SIP on turn 0 with myst early. Seems somewhat promising. I think A gives us a faster start, but since it goes coastal, that means we'd have to make our capital the prophet city if we want to oracle.

looks fine, nothing to change my earlier view, also, coastal capitol should have advantages when trade routes become a factor. moai statues won't be better anywhere else, so prophet city capitol makes sense, too.

How is that? I thought the advantages only occur if you build the great lighthouse, in which case a coastal capital gets more trade routes? Am I missing something?

OK so that means A is going to settle in place (unless we want to hold out for the small possibility of seafood in the one unexplored water)

I seem to be in a minority in that I still think E would make the better long term capital, with all its riverside tiles plus 2 gems. I'm also a bit sceptical of the value of Moai in A because it has only 4 coastal tiles - normally I'd be looking to build Moai somewhere that has at least 9 or 10 tiles that can benefit from it. But if we're going for CS slingshot then we don't really have a choice because Moai has to be built in the Oracle city.

However, for the sake of getting the game moving, I'm happy to go along with the majority view, which I think is to SIP A as the capital.

I'm done some extensive testing by now and myst first had a small advantage around turn 30 but lost it around turn 50-60.(earlier libary for the furs is a huge difference)

Best I managed to do is with SIP A as cap E 1east of wine and clam rice city at turn 10.
After 10 turns we should now if a 3rd city by the clam is agood play. A note here would be that without myst and A cap a 2 city approach on the starting area is almost certain a loosing game either we struggling with getting second city uprunning or orphan the gems.

Anyway I'm green with settling A as cap and then discuss where to settling E preferable on turn 0.
