SGOTM4 - Team Smackster

Oops, sorry.... :)
Tarkeel is on auto skip then as planned

Turn log

0 – 1450AD
Elite farmed a bit, one elite. Gifted a couple of towns to Persia, and a few towns to Celts. Since the Leader was returned to Carthage when one of the cities was gifted I changed to MA in Utica and will leader rush Hoover there next turn. Building Stock Exchanges everywhere else. Changed Science to Sanitation.

1 – 1455AD
Recuperating. Utica builds MA, Hoover rushed.

2 – 1460AD
Utica builds Hoover, next up Stock Exchange. 1 Elite attack

3 – 1465AD
2 Elite attack

4 – 1470AD
1 Elite attack

5 – 1475AD
Elite created. Utica builds Stock Exchange, Wall Street started. Traded SM to Otto and Germany for Lux and gold.

6 – 1480AD
Sanitation researched, Espionage started.

7 – 1485AD
Sabarath grows to 24!

8 – 1490AD
All but Utica now 12+ in size.

9 – 1495AD
The fifth elite attack!

10 – 1500AD
Utica builds Wall Street, we need to keep gold in the “bank” now to benefit from it though. Starting on Hospital.

After action report:
Only 6 elite attacks, no leaders. No soldiers in Babylonian cities so no reason to attack. Have moved units in preparation for attack on Celts. Espionage in 2 turns. No trades last turn.

@Dman: When the hospital in Utica finishes remember to add at least one worker that turn to it so we do not lose the food when it grows to size 13. As we did when the cities grew from 6 to 7… Also, if you gain any leaders leave them in a city you are about to gift away and it will be teleported to Carthage…

Firaxis: 801
Culture: 13179 (126/turn) est. win date: 1754
0 leaders, 6 attacks

Very good call on sending the leaders back home. Good turns, but after getting Espionage there isn't much else we can do. 8 techs from MA and no more culture buildings until then, and the game will be almost over then too. Getting to MA quicker would have helped but on this map with the useless AI we have had no help.

One more thing we can do, is to rebuild the palace in Utica will give us a little more culture.

I have never done this, are we sure the FP will still be there if the palace is built?

Building palace sounds like a good idea, but not sure what happens with FP in that case. WIll it dissapear?
Unfortunately, I don't have any other game running right now to test this theory
Creat idea on teleporting leaders, it's so simple, i was teleporting bunch of units but never thought about leaders :wallbash:
I will play tonight, as usually after Nick goes to sleep.

According to the excel calculator, with the IA built in 1530 and the palace in 1560 we are still a couple of points short of 1752. So we need to beat those dates, or get some other culture building. The Pentagon is the only other one that looks possible, so need some armies.

We may need to test building the palace again, I have no idea what happens to the FP, but I doubt that it will stop producing culture.

Pre-flight:
Germans and Ottomans would give us 20 and 29 GPT for techs...
I'd like to wait one or two turns, hopefully they will have more money to give us.

IBT. Crap. Pollution hits three cities simultaneously... We don't have so many workers to clean it... Nasty...

T1. 1505AD. Disbanding couple of cavalry in Utica and rushing hospital for just 256gold. That will help us to start IA the same turn espionage is researched. Declare on Celts, attacking their city with cavalry, cavalry wins, promotes to elite, but guess what.... Celts city was defended buy a single lousy musketman...
Razing the city, since I don't want my elite to be teleported to the home land.

T2. 1510AD. Pollution is mostly cleaned except Rusicade. Sold AT to Germans for 50GPT and to ottomans for 11GPT.
Espionage researched, started on Replaceable parts.
Utica is about to grow so added a citizen to reach size 13. Utica will build IA in 7 turns, joined another worker, now it will build IA in 6 turns, lets keep it that way then.

T3 1515AD I need a freaking ironclad... Babylonian keeps bombarding our shore for the second turn in a row. Attacking Celt's capital Lugdunum, oh ah, talk about RNG luck. Lost 2 cavalries, 2 retreated, killed 2 reg muskets, and haven't taken that city. :gripe:

IBT. Bab cavalry attacks our cavalry near Athens. We lose.

T4 1520AD First Elite attack - nothing.
Another elite attack - nothing, taking Lugdunum and gift it to Greeks. I can't stop laughing, former Greek city of Thermopylae becomes Celts capital and it is totally not protected, I am running out of targets.
Rusicade finished police station, switched to Hydro Plant.

IBT, we lost two more cavalry's to Babylonians. They have right of passage with ottomans. :aargh:

T5. 1525 AD. If I make an alliance with Ottomans against Babylon, ottomans will probably destroy Babylon in no time. Don't want that.
Nobody has much money to trade with me.
Another elite attack and nothing. Gift another yet Celt city to Greeks.
And another elite attack and yet nothing again.
I am sending 2 galleons with cavalry to the northern Babylonian island...
They should have more troops down there.

IBT. Another yet cavalry lost.

T6 1530 AD... Elite attacks and nothing. 1st cavalry shipment lands on northern Bab Island.

T7 1535 AD Attack a city on northern Bab Island.
3 attacks, one promoted to elite. Taking over the city and gift it to Greeks.
IA is to be built in 1 turn.
Babylon captured ancient city Of Athens, good, at least I will have someone to fight the next turn.
Sold chemistry to Scandinavia for 7Gpt and 30 gold.

IBT. We do need ironclads... Bab frigate sank our galleon. [pissed]
Extended deal with Osman... we give spices they give 11 gpt.
Trade embargo against us ended.

T8 1540 AD.

Re-take Athens and give it back to Greeks.
Our cav. against Bab cav -> We lose.
Another cavalry attacks and kills pesky Babylonian.
Attacking another yet Bab city up north.
Cav attacks and promoted. Will wait another turn to get elites in range.
Intellegence Agency is built, Utica switched to building Battlefield medicine.

IBT. Extend right of passage with Greece... not sure if it is worth doing, but we need space to heal our troops somewhere...

T9 1545AD. Took another Bab city with 2 elite attacks. No leader yet again... Standard procedure, gifting city to Greeks.
Sold electricity to Greeks for gpt... I know, I know we may want to start war with them before this expires, but reputations means nothing anymore.

Celts landed settler pair on Persian island, Elite knight attacks and... Nothing ....

IBT. Bab. frigate sinks another galleon of ours... :aargh:
I have 2 ironclads now to provide some naval defense.

T10. 1550AD 2 more elite attacks another Babylonian city is fallen and nothing is there for us. City is gifted to Greece.

We have 2 galleons full of troops near Babylonian city of Oslo... Khmm.. I don't think it is right... we shall retake it and gift it back to Scandinavia.
We have 5 units near Akkad, but I don't think it will be enough to take city, we will probably lose one or two between turns. I think I lost my mind when I sent them to the suicidal mission.

Refining in 7 turns

Battlefield medicine in 5 turns, it could be switched to palace to be ready in 3 turns with lots of shields wasted that last turn, but I haven't tested that scenario... Has anyone tested that idea yet?

We have more cavalry to be shipped towards Babylon next turn from Utica.
Utica has 14466 culture points and 133 CPT.
I am surprised I didn't have any pollution accident other than that 1st turn. I am sure next player will face some, we may run into the problems not having enough workers when we need to clean pollution, so it may be nasty.

@Wotan, remember those 3 cities you've captured from Greeks and gave to Babylon? Well, they are still there and still unprotected so I pass it to the next player.

Germans and Ottomans will give us some gpt, but not enough. I would wait few turns hoping they will collect more money.

We should probably make peace with Celts, they can't provide any troops...
Personally, I think we should call it quit and end up any warfare...Well, I said it wrong way... We should try to use those troops we currently have against Babylon and make it our last major campaign.
We really don't need any leaders, other than for pentagon. But then we need to get 2 leaders, which is simply won't happen with our luck.

I think i had 10 elite wins and no leader.

That's all folks!

Forgot about Battlefield medicine. That gets us within a few points of 1752AD, assuming we can get Palace and Pentagon, we are no where near 1750AD. So that is our end date.

I should be able to play 15 or so turns tomorrow

I started playing and got a leader on the first elite attack. I did the palace test and it does move and the FP stays there, and you get culture for both. So I can build the palace in 2, and then rush the IA.

We can't build any armies as we don't have enough cities, there is a chance we can play the capture lots of cities and then build another army game (Ala the FP), but we can do that after the above just for fun.

Question is that moving the palace we are effectively giving up research (well I assume we'll lose a little research). We need to get to the MA to get anymore culture. Based on the dates I get we will finish in 1752 and are 93 culture from 1750. There is no way to make that up, whatever we do.

So I'm going ahead and doing what I've suggested.

You meant rushing Battlefield Medicine after palace, right??
We do have IA already...

Congrats with getting a leader...

and lets start preparing for SGOTM5 :)
same team again?

Yes sorry, Battlefield Medicine

What do we know about SGOTM5?

We'll do a team Roster. I assume DH is not on, as he's only played one round of this one.

smackster

We know that there will be only one Victory Condition that applies to every team... That should make our life much easier...
Team Smacskter is known for the good play, but wrong choice of VCs :mischief:

and we also know we have 2 weeks ahead of us.... so You have a lot of time to finish those GOTMs you've been behind.

I am not sure about Scoutsout either... we invited him to the team but he never really showed up.

We can always ask M-B to assign us a random player, after all in our 1st game we were all randomly seeded together.

T0 1550AD

Electronics to both Ottomans and Germany, hope they will research Radio

T1 1555AD

Leader with first elite victory. Can't build army. Will build palace then rush BM.

T2 1560AD
Get ROP with Otto, so that we can use their land. Various attacks to try to get more elites.
Capture Oslo and find that all lux deals with Oslo end but we get them back for Espionage, that was the best deal. Don't know why we lost them.

Gift Oslo to Scandinavia, at least they might build something

Otto signs MPP with Greeks, so watch out for that if we need to fight Greece again.

T3 1565AD
Utica build palace, corruption isn't so bad, Rusicade corruption looks pretty much the same.
Rush BM in Utica

Declare war on Scandy, as we have a couple of elites there.

T4 1570AD
Germany declare on us as they have a MPP with Scandy

BM completed in Utica

My second elite attack of this set of turns and I get another leader. Now to try the army trick. We capture two of the Babylon cities, and one Scandy, gives us 8 cities and now we can build another army.

My third elite attack of this set of turns and I get another leader, I think the game has gone mad, never seen this before. Now I capture some more cities, so I have 12, but I don't rush a leader, as I can build one in Utica, so I disband a stack of troops in Utica and cash rush it. I then disband those cities and pray that I can keep my armies

We gift all those cities out to Ottoman and Greece.

T5 1575AD
Utica builds the army, we rush the Pentagon. Worked like a dream.

T6 1580AD
Pentagon is built. Refining comes in Steel in 6

Peace with Babylon, we are just losing Cavlary to theirs now.

All attacks from now will be elite against red lines. We have armies that will protect Artillery and then use elites to attack. Its much more effective way to fight and we don't need massed attacks to do it.

We sell Refining to Otto for about 200 gold and 30 GPT, I need to maximise research, but will make a last attempt to get Otto to help us. I'm watching replaceable parts and they don't appear to be researching that, although I can't be sure

T7 1585AD
Otto's price for Replaceable parts does seem to be coming down, so we gift them it for 140 gold, no GPT as we want them to research for us, as long as we are at max research its all cool

T8 1590AD
Bringing the Armies to wander round the Babylon heart, packed with artillery and whatever elites I can find, looking for redlined wins

T9 1595AD

T10 1600AD
ROP with Babylon now too, so that we can get to Germany, and then play our trick on Babylon.

Still playing

T11 1605AD
Germany drop some troops off near Rusicade, and I'm annoyed that I have no elites there, lost my last one attacking a weak spear

T12 1610AD
Steel comes in, and Combustion in 7. To stop from running out of cash, sell to Otto, for 150 and 60GPT, they would have paid 152GPT.

T13 1615AD

T14 1620AD
Picking up some elite wins, but not much else. Otto will not research anything for us damn them.

T15 1625AD
Arillery start bombarding Hamburg, there is a drop off point in Babylon, the arts then race over to join. Plan to just pound the defenders to red line and then finish with elites. This way the elites should not take so much damage and can keep fighting.

I think its too late for any help with Tech, but might as well keep going.

Wow, this game went crazy....

I'd say too many leaders for you Smackster in one turnset, you probably won't have any from now until the end of next SGOTM ;) .

So, we built all the wonder we could possibly have, from now until end of the game, it's just hitting next turn button...
Why don't you simply hit Shift->Enter 80+ times to get this game over  .

and on the serious note....
What do we do now???
Do we really need to keep wars going on??? I mean, what would we use more leaders for???
We might get one and if we get to research one MA tech at the very end of the game, we might rush something like UN...
but then again it won't help us to get even one turn closer...

So, what is our strategy for the end of the game?????

Agreed, I just wasn't ready to give up, even if I got one more wonder in 1750 :)

Try to get to the MA as quickly as possible, see if we can actually get another wonder.

I could have finished it tonight, but you guys need to say finish it first. Wotan can finish it tomorrow if he has time.

smackster

I don't mind if Wotan finishes the game tomorrow or in the next couple of days...
There is nothing left in this game but mechanics.

We did a good job. I truly believe we will be the 3rd team in final roster for golden laurel, and can even be the second for the green one...

@Wotan: Could you kill this game sooner than later? I am so eager to start lurking other team's threads ;)

I think there are still both laurels for variant teams. (especially in this game when everybody plays variant).
Confusion started when AlanH had hard time put the table together to please everybody
But M-B will certainly clear that rule.
