SGOTM6 - Team jeffelammar

Just so you know I thought getting the 100k was awesome. I thought once you got the hang of lining up the build and looking at the pop the rushs things went pretty quick. BH it was not a reflection on you that I didn't understand how to pop rush. I just never did one in a regular game beyond popping a temple. How would you know I'm clueless.

I'm watching intently denyd's HOF attempts because he's obviously very good at 100k's. What I'll be interested to see is if he finds feudalism better than republic for 100k's.

BTW I'll repeat it again anyone willing to get their head bashed in, Tim02 will be a AW from the looks of it. We could use an extra player.

Actually, CDZ could still pull into second if they play well. I think. However, standings really aren't all that important.

You are right on both counts. Looking at their graph I think they will beat us, but as you say standings don't really matter. The point is to have fun, and I certainly accomplished that in this game.

This game was a lot of fun. For me, it is an added bonus that we did well in the competition, but the fun and the learning were the important things. I think we did very well, but it was obvious that we learned things as we went along. If we started over knowing what we were doing, we could have done a lot better, but then it wouldn't have been as rewarding an experience.

I'm not sure the GS were as much of a killer as not having the pyramids, and given that we never reached communism anyway, I think that the temple of artemis/don't research education strategy would have been a better choice than our research quickly strategy. I think our big problem was that none of us had done a lot of pop-rushing before, so it took a while to figure out how to do it most efficiently. We didn't appreciate the effects of the pyramids because we didn't realize how much we were going to be pop-rushing and how much the rushing was going to depend on how fast our population grew. Now we know, not that I plan on playing another game like this any time soon (although I agree that the MM of a big war is just as bad).

AWD makes me a lot nervous. I've never played a game at higher than emperor and I usually lose there. I've never played a whole game of always war, and only started one once. However, I'm also looking forward to it, because I expect I'll learn a lot. Plus, if we go down in flames, I'm in good company. :)

Two words Kill Ratio : We will always be outnumbered. The key is to make sure that we take advantage of every military mismatch and make sure we kill lots of them for every one we lose.

If you have some time to look, read up on SGOTM 3. That game was only 1 step short of AW, so a lot of the tactics will apply. There are also a couple sucession games going on that are AW, so we can probably get some good ideas there as well.

Always War isn't that tough, especially with a cushy start. Don't be too concerned; I doubt that anyone but the AI will be going down in flames.

To be perfectly honest, lurking in an AW SG will probably give a lot more help than that article. Most of that strategy is limited to one very specific set up. I may try to put some stuff together by the time SGOTM7 starts up. This isn't really the place to discuss that though, as we may not even all be on the same team next time around.

You can stay together if you want to of course. I'm a little embarrassed at having underestimated this team. Following your game was a delight.

AWD is scary. With a random start you can get a losing position easily. But all these games are very non-random. SGOTM7 is winnable, and this team would get over the "being scared" part of it very quickly I imagine.

I think we played together very well as a team, but my lovely crash and burn in GOTM 42 continues to add to the evidence that individually I'm a monarch level player. I may be too lazy to go beyond that. ;)

Anyway, I'm planning to do a little reading before SGOTM 7. I'm sure it will be a great learning experience and a lot of fun no matter what happens.
