Well, I had a feeling this was going to happen sooner or later. It doesn't really sound like you did too badly from your description, but I forsee aerial bombardment soon - which will be the end of us. Lets just keep fighting - to the death. I like this game, even if we're losing - its fun. Never surrender!
 
Tough luck... How did the stupid AI managed to land so many Cavs?... Let's fight guys, this game is too much fun to give up.

The situation looks bad. Salonika will be captured… I decide not to allow to the musket to defend it. A 3 HP sipahi charges and kills him. Zululand is bad. Turn off research, Physics in 14 with scientists but 2 sipahi to upgrade per turn.
(IBT) Our mighty musket defends Ankara against cav, even being wounded by a frigate just before. The vikes take Salonika. The Persians take Z-something in Zululand. 2 infs, a cav and a guerrilla land in Zululand.

Kill Infantry in the home land. Take Bingol from guerrilla and a cav. Retake Yozgat with 6 workers and 2 cats. Retake Z-thing with MDI against cav. Retake Salonika and sink 3 frigates and a Galion. Kill some more vikes. We’ll lose a city or two next turn. Trying to reblock the islands again to gain some time. Set some explorer and worker builds for blockade.
(IBT) Lose a galley and kill a frigate. Persians take Karabuk and Ulundi.

Retake Riza. Sipahi presence in Zululand highly reinforced, I’m sending an army there too. Upgrade some galleys too, caravels have 2 defense for 30 g. Reset science, physics in 4.

Lose 3 sipahi but retake Karabuk. The AI is rushing infantries too fast and Ulundi has a harbour. The Persians will unload a galion in Ulundi, I’m running a slave blockade to slow them down.

A persian cav captures 2 workers and then a city??? How did they do that??? What kind of blitz is this? Is this the GOTM mod? The Vikings are building US. Americans finish ToE.

I’ve sent all that can do “Puff” next to Ulundi. The army stands there to heal; there are many Sipahi in Karabuk (healing too). I think that our 3 islands will be ours on the next turn.
I’m trying to set a blockade on all our coastal tiles. Proceed, this will let us breathe for a while. Go on guys, the game is tough and maybe lost but not Chunky’s team!

Americans came with 12 frigates and 4 galleons. I tried to bomb them but it was no use.

Vikings and Persians came with half of them I think.

I think we can't invade Persia now. We need at least 1 Sipahi armor for defence at each continent.

I might be dreaming but we have one chance. Replacable parts. With enough artillery & sipahi armies we might take even MA but we must live 'till that and this means we have to survive against bomber and tank attacks. :rolleyes:

I think i've given up on thinking we can take Persia any time soon. We will definitely need artillery, and I pray that they do not have oil. I say lets just stick it out for now and see where the Industrial Age takes us.

Nice turns Khan. About the supposed cavalry blitz, I think they added in something in Conquests where it is possible to capture workers, then attack - a sort of passive blitz. I only realised that a few days ago in a different game.

I'll try and finish off the blockade on my turns. This will help us get our breath back. I can't play until Wednesday night though, I hope this is OK?

BTW, I don't even dare dreaming of RP, Nationalism is the one I forsee...
If we're lucky with the free tech we may make it... The blockade may allow us to live that long. In any case, a landing with Muskets and Sipahi is doomed, don't try it.

I agree with you Khan about Persia landing. By the way Vikings may land berserker directly to cities so be careful.
 
Viking landing in the outer cities is not so problematic. They seem to like Salonika, and it's easy to retake it. I agree that it is a potential danger but we can't do much more than try to protect them with military...
Anyways, the Vikes are stupid enough to upgrade the Zerks to ???Guerillas??? so we wont see them. But soon there will be marines around. So watch out. A landing of 4 galions can cost us a lot if the AI captures a city, unloads and charges with cavs.

I found this out also in a SG. I was able to capture a worker inciting the Indian AI to attack. I had a reverse MPP with the Indian's partners and when they came to get their worker back they were shocked to get dogpiled.

Glad to see ya'll are playing this to the bloody end. It looks to have been a very fun game.

0 - 1275AD - Looking as good as it could.
IBT - Learn Physics. Set for Magnetism in 6 - still operating at small profit, but we don't have many knights left to upgrade so I feel this is a good call. Konya sipahi ->sipahi. Mugla caravel -> caravel.

1 - 1280AD - Bomb Ulundi, but it doesn't take as many hits as I would like to gamble recapturing it.
IBT - A Zerk captures Bapedi :rolleyes: . Vikings load another 3 units into the city from outside - they could have blitzed us if the AI was smart! Edirne sipahi -> sipahi. Isandlhwana lib->caravel. Uskudar cannon->cannon.

2 - 1285AD - Kill Viking crusader, musket, cavalry, zerk taking Bapedi. Lose one sipahi. Get a leader. Build army. 4-1
IBT - Bursa sipahi->sipahi. Aydin sipahi-> sipahi. Bolu riots cos a frigate disconnected it. Iskderun explorer->explorer.

3 - 1290AD - Fill up me army with sips and away we go. Bomb Ulundi. Kill 5 infantry, 1 guerilla, lose one sipahi. 10-2
IBT - Iznik sipahi->sipahi. Tokat explorer->explorer. Urfa carvel-> caravel. Intombe caravel-> carvel. Antalya caravel ->caravel.

4 - 1295AD - Kill one infantry and one cavlry in Ulundi. Retake our town! We are rid of the occupying forces!! :D 12-2

5 - 1300AD - Not much, just reinforcing blockade with military units.

Turns out there was a cavalry underneath the slave worker, but i'm not sure why it wasn't first in the defence line...

Anyway, I've got a good feeling about staying alive for a while. We have frigates in 2 turns, although GA finishes in 2. Then we should be able to give a little bombard revenge to Persia.

We should attempt to construct a military blockade along the shore - this stops our improvements from being destroyed. Also, lets setttle some more towns in Ex-India - for the support...

I'm going to go eat something now i'll be back with some more comments maybe...

This is probably one of the most fun and challenging games of Civ I have ever played. Its 'cos of the great team - of course :D
I'm glad somebody else is reading our tales of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory anyway!

I had a couple of other thoughts over dinner. We should try to keep the next two or three armies built in Istanbul free. When we get Nationalism (assuming we get that far), we can load em up (with only 3 rifles each mind) and ship em over on the galleons full of sipahi. Assuming Persians still don't have oil, we should have a fighting chance of grabbing a foothold there.

God I hope oil is scarce on this map :undecide:

Also I'm unsure as to what to do with regards to letting the Persians - and others land. At the moment we have complete blockade on landings. This will eventually end up choking the AI - and they won't be able to build any late IA units - hopefully? I don't think AI disband do they? However if we do allow landings this could soften the blow when we invade, and will also give us a chance to leader fish.

At the moment I prefer to let them choke on their upkeep. I'm assuming it will work. :ack:

I agree with the rifle army. Two supported by a few more rifles and cannons will hold at Persia I think.

Will we wait for Mach or is it my turn?
 
Nicey. We have our islands back. Is the blockade up? Are we treatened only by amphibious?
About the worker, the cav must have been loaded in a ship and when you attack it unloads.
If we manage to send some rifle armies, we have an unique chance to win this game.
Mach is back tomorrow, I presume he can play saturday. I think you can swap and he'll take his turns after you.
EDIT: I'll be out for a week... Skip me...

So is the plan to pillage the snot out of America and/or capture land from the weaker countries?

When falling victim to more advanced civs in an AW 5CC we pillaged the opponents into submission. Just a thought.

There'll be a lot of pillage but the essential is to invade persia and reach the 66% limit... The AI is too advanced, we can't count on weakening it otherways it will launch.
