Does it also make sense that another of our core cities is a coastal one for ships?
We will want at least one core city on the coast, probably more. (Though with the Vikings around we'll need to really defend them well)

I think that the pink and green dots from the last dotmap both would cover the need for core coastal cities. Until we know just how big our island is, it is hard to say more.

Well, storm is long past at this point. We finally have May weather, with the temp up in the 90s. It'll probably be at least a couple of weeks before I get the new computer, so I will surely need to be skipped at least once more, unfortunately.

Sorry to hear that. I was hoping you could get your old computer fixed up till then. :(

Please do keep checking in and posting advice.

The more I think about it, founding on the spices is the better choice. I we need the defensive bonus of the hill for a core city, the game is probably lost anyway.

As for cities after that, I'd like to go east and south first and get as many productive cities as possible before we actually have to fight any battles. My suspicion is that east and south will be lands that the only threats will be barbarians.

As for having to defend against Berserks, it should be quite some time before that are available. Hopefully by then, the Vikings will be but a distant memory.

How many tiles away do you have to be to destroy a barb village? There's one next to the spice hill but 1N1E away from the spices. Will it destroy it from the spices or should I just plant on the hill?

The one on the spice hill will go away immediatly, but the other one will survive until either border expansion or one of our units kills it.

(another way of saying, BV are only destroyed when they are in claimed land)

So it seems ok to wait till border expansion for it to disappear or should I settle on the hill.

My take is that dispersing a BV is not worth moving the city. It is short term, and we can clear it out with an offensive unit which we should be cranking out real soon.

I'm still voting on settling on the spices for the reasons I mentioned earlier.

SUMMARY
We are surrounded on all sides. We could use some offense. Sorry about Wm. Tell but he was on a forest. I left 3 worker actions for DocT to decide what to do.

And a pic...

I tested picking up my save up top and I can't so I did another below.

We are 3 from IW at 90% and +1gpt.

IW was my pick. I hoped to find nearby iron that we could claim. I felt that a couple of archers could handle the barbs until we knew whether to accenuate horses or swords as our primary attacker.

I would suggest a settler 1 NE of the hut to pop it avoiding barbs.

We also need to re-improve those sheep N of Edrine.

I left the two worker next to Istanbul and the one in Bursa for DocT to make that decision.

Denyd it was a team discussion and decision to go IW. It is actually due in 2 after Doc hits enter.

One thing that I think is critical is getting the 3rd sheep hooked up again. It got pillaged during Denyd's turns, and I am a bit shocked that it hasn't been fixed yet. (Though the high barb count may have made that difficult)

One interesting thing that I didn't know. You don't get contact by having your borders touch. It is unbelievable to me that the Arabs are still not in F4.

I agree with Doc about IW/HBR, but you did post and wait for a response, so I really have only myself to blame for not posting my feelings on the subject.

Arghhh. Add me to the list of people having computer problems. :wallbash:

Today my laptop (my main computer) decided to die. More specifically the hard drive will no longer spin up. It does click every second or so. [pissed]

The ironic thing is that last night I decided to order a new desktop, so that should be here in a week or so. :bounce:

Hopefully I will be set up and ready to go by the time my turn comes around again.

I could have sworn I had a backup, but I can't find the cds right now. I'll have to calm down and think harder about where I hid them. The most recent I could find is a year old :(

Hope your day is going better than mine.

Sorry, I am going to continue to be unavailable for a while longer.

Please skip me until I start posting again.

I hope this will be early next week.

Eeek, what god(s) did we piss off. A look at our roster says it all.

Roster Reminder
Code:
Denyd
Whomp
DocT << Up, but past his 24 hour
Bed_head7 << Waiting for new computer to arrive.
CKS << Skip indefinately
Jeffelammar << Down a laptop, waiting for new computer, will try to rehabilitate the laptop this weekend.

Given that the next 3 players are unavailable, and since I didn't post a roster reminder, DocT may not have realized he was up. Start a 24 hour from this post.

I'll try to get one of my computers up and ready to play civ tonight. The old 400mhz gateway may not have the disk space to install ptw and conquests. (It does have vanilla on it, so I might be able to make it). I am going to buy a new disk for the laptop and start to go through the arduous re-install process, but that will take some time. The ship date for the new one isn't till Wednesday.

Current roster:

DocT - up
Bed_head7 - on skip
CKS - on skip
Jeffelammer - on skip
DenyD - on deck
Whomp - just played

Looks like it's just the 3 of us for a while. I a little scared to even turn by system on with what's been going on the with rest of you guys.

X-post with Jeffelammer. I ordered my wife a new Dell last Friday and we got it on Tuesday. A nice 2.8Ghz P4 box with a 4oGB HD & .5GB RAM & 15" flat screen for $595 (plus about $220 in software)

Thanks, somehow I indeed missed I was up; sorry. Couldn't have played yesterday anyway - and I just arrived at home after 8h on the Autobahn, lots of traffic jams, 42°C in the car.
In other words, my brain dried out - I will play tomorrow.

The HBR/Iron thing: Jeff is correct, you aksed and we didn't reply. But the real reason why I wanted HBR are the Zulus, and I did mention that earlier: Swords against Impis is ugly.

I went a bit more upscale than that. I'm getting a 3.0Ghz, 1.0 GB RAM, 19" Flat, 160 GB HD. More than I need, but where's the fun if you can't have the toys. I just checked the order status, and it is in Testing today. Maybe I'll get lucky and they'll get it shipped today.

@DocT - No prob on the delay. Given the issues the rest of us are having, I don't think you need to rush.

I'll try hard to have a system up and running enough to play civ again before the weekend is over, cause a 3 man rotation would hurt.
