Yes they do. I know they have a town in the north that was by a source.

Thanks for the refresh! :) Yep, they have that city in the far north near the iron buried in the mountains. I'm unsure whether they've connected it yet. There has been no evidence so far.

Morning,

Just an update, I'll continue with my set when I get home from work this morning. I might have some questions for the team this afternoon though, so be prepared. :P

Hey,

bout halfway through set, talked to china, they'll accept an ROP for World map and 13 gold, don't know if we should take it or not. What do you think?

Carrying the Greek war through China is probably not in our best interest right now. Finish Delphi, if it's not done already, make nice with the Greek and get us ready for another shot at China with whatever we can muster. Longbows and trebs probably.

Ok, our treaty with the Chinese has ended and they've popped up with another Peace Treaty. Our only viable target right now is the chinese, if we take the treaty we'll just be locked in. What do you think?

Sticky wicket.

Can we take a war with China right now - with enough troops and cash to buy allies?

If the answer to either question is no......I don't think we can. So make nice, see if we can get a better government and revolt.

Well, I decided to have a go at the chinese, once again, we're at war.

#0 350 AD checkin out the lay of the land, making plans

#1 359 AD founded baltimore sw of cape may. fortifying chinese front

#2 383 AD nothing much, couple of archers produced, used them to strengthen defence of core cities, next round of archers will be heading north to chinese front. clearing jungle around cape may and baltimore, sent spare settler to st. louis to await further orders

#3 405 AD sent archer south to our diamond colony for defence, working on clearing jungle around st.louis which will also aid in troop movement in near future.

IBT England demanded 37g and our territory maps, I gave it too them, we don't want too many fronts right now

#4 xxx AD nothing much of interest, tried trading around with those we are at peace with, nothing really to our advantage

#5 409 AD Sandinavian galley appears off southern coast near our diamond colony. moved science slider to 50%, we're at -18gpt, engineering due in 14

#6 xxx AD Scandi galley headed of to the west out of sght, still clearing jungle areas of cape may and baltimore

#7 xxx AD chinese approach us with an extended peace treaty, we decline. it's on now. they immediately attack chatham and st. louis area, defenses holding.
We had a few minor skirmishes along the NW front line near ST. L and chatham, our forces drove back the chinese and now we have a line of def. but it needs to be strengthened. reinforcements are on the way from our core.

English are building the Sistene, I've set up St. Louis as a continental rally point for now.

#8 xxx AD we are slowly advancing toward Tsingtao on our NW front, the presence of jungles presents a barrier to our cats who will have to reroute to the N and NE.

#9 xxx AD rerouting cats around jungle for approach to tsingtao

#10 450 AD our first reinforcements for our core arriving at st. louie. Tsingtao looms on the horizon.

I'm glad we didn't entertain the ROP with China. Our greek war was long over. We should be set to fend off China again. But I wouldn't bother with Tsingtao right now. Beijing or bust baby. Heck, it would be facing some severe culture pressue, but settling a city to take those horses might be a quick way to weaken China. Since we are at war, nothing is stopping us from settling in their borders. And once Beijing is ours, the culture pressure will be relieved.

I'd much rather be facing Chinese archers or longbows rather than horses.

A couple things. The Vikings will offer peace straight up. I'd take it as there isn't much to be gained staying at war with them. Second, we can turn science down and get engineering from Japan for dyes and cash, then possibly turn around and sell that to England for Mono. Not sure if there would be enough gold to complete the second deal, but you can think about it.

haha! yes! time for me to aquire some horses, i will do it today at post my results tonight

ok here are my results

0 (450AD) -scope out the area and sign peace with vikings, cities armed with archers can now allow them to go north

1 (460AD) -troops heal and prepare for march into chinese territory
-chinese have longbows
-greece and japan sign M.A against Vikings

2 (470AD) - troops enter chinese territory

3 (480AD) - troops move to within striking distance

4 (490AD) - Tsingtao gaurded by 3 spears and taken with no fatalities

5 (500AD) - Troops heal in Tsingtao

6 (510AD) - Troops continue to heal and settler reaches Tsingtao on last move

7 (520AD) - Troops healed and tsingtao abandoned, settler creates Border City

8 (530AD) - Troops move to Xinjian
- Chinese have muskets

9 (540AD) - Xinjian captured, 4 fatalities due to one musket, pults missed every shot except 1

10 (550AD) - Troops heal in Xinjian, settler on way up.

Time for the handoff

China will talk peace, before i captured Xinjian they offered engineering and monarchy for a bit of gor cities on the mainland and wait till we get engineering we could get invention and have longbows for our war against Greece

good luck whoever is next

No Beijing? Bah. No horses either. Double bah! A China with muskets is not good, but its likely Greece has muskets as well. We should push to clear out china. Try and take Tientsin in the peace deal to clear more cultural pressure, although China values it highly - future resource city for sure. We need that Great Library to catch up and we have the army to do it. 31 archers, 20 pults.

On Xinjian - our large army is fortified there. That's a flip waiting to happen. Let's clear them out before the next turn starts.

It depressing to see all of our dyes untraded, but there are no resources to buy on the market. A truly evil map. At least China has saltpeter. Maybe its on the hills north of Beijing.

We really need another settler or two. Maybe St Louis or Westchesterton can whip one up so we can lay claim to the horse and raze/replace Xinjian.

The Save

It is going to be a bloddy march on Beijing, coming in from the NW with no spears to provide cover.

I can buy my way out of the war with Rome and pick up Engineering for 200g+2gpt, a decent discount from beaker cost. Engineering plus some Dyes gets us Monontheism from from England plus 10g and her World Map.

Then send the Archers and cats on Canton and whip a settler out of Westchesterton for the horses.

The Romans are building Copernicus.

The Chinese make no counterattack and the strongest defender at Canton is a spear.

By 560 we are at the gates of Canton with archers and cats. And in 570 it goes down like a house of cards to six cats and two archers, no casualties. Burn the town and the rest of the stack moves on toward Beijing while the settler and escort head toward the horse colony.

Xinjan flips away.

In 580 Xinjan shows two muskets in the garrison but there are only three archers and a cat in position to take it back. So wait. Move forward on Beijing and found Memphis in a truly awful place to claim the horses.
By 590 we are at the gates of Beijing, on a hill, pop12, defended by a musket. And the Chinese build Copernicus in Beijing.

Xinjan now has a Longbow in the garrison and the two cats do little so we wait. Horsemen are on their way to Beijing. The Chinese longbow sorties out of Xinjan and dies.

In 610 wound both defenders at Xinjan with cat fire and lose three archers killing one. Cats count coup on four Chinese muskets in Beijing. Lose two archers but the Great Library is now ours. It should hold for at least a turn then goes to the torch.

And here comes the knowledge:

Monarchy
Feudalism
Theology
Chivalry
Invention
Education
Gunpowder
Banking
Astronomy
Chemistry
Metallurgy

Just for your information the flip chance at Beijing is 100-200%, so move out the forces and get out the torch.

Move on Nanking and in 630 the town is torched, defended as it was by only two spears. The archers and cats move back to the center.

Xinjan's muskets still hold. Whip another settler out of St Louis. The Greeks are crossing into the now empty lands. Looks like no rest for the wicked.

Take Xinjan and 55g from Mao for a Peace Treaty. Then abandon the town and build Los Angeles next to the rubble.

Next step is to throw the country into anarchy and draw eight turns with starvation in a lot of places. Then buy silks from Rome for Dyes and Gems and Wines from Greece for Chemistry. That averts starvation everywhere but Atlantic City, Oh, well.

I'll carry through the anarchy and another two turns so no one else must bear it...

In 660 trade Dyes and 126 to Japan for Ivory. Then get the 126 back for Metallurgy. We now have five luxes in the bin and could conceivably afford Republic with markets.

Caesar extorts 27g but I get that back from Liz and get Incense in the deal plus her World Maps.

In 670 found Kansas City trying to poach some horses from the Greek. The New Jersey towns pitch a fit however and riot even with all the luxes. Japan completes Leonardo's.

Our new government will be a Monarchy as we just don't have the infrastructure to support a Republic. And I think we need to give up on the idea of being the tech leader and just bull our way to the knowledge we need, and for that we need a war makers government. We still need to clear the Greeks out off the continent and support huge garrisons in the flippable towns.

In 710 we become a Monarchy, the Greeks finish Sistine's and start Bach's.

And the horse poop hits the fan as war between England and Rome and Japan breaks the trade route to England. There is a coastal passage which must be blocked by a Japanese galley out of Matsuyama. But I can still trade Liz Metallurgy for Music Theory, which I can use to pry Furs out of Julius plus another 100g.

In 720 Athens gets Sistine and Rome gets Bach's. Opened an emabssy with England and Rome just to keep tabs on the oppo

From 720 to 750 build some horsemen and get ready for the march on Greece, which should come soon. They owe us Wines but that should not be a problem. There are large stacks of cats and horsemen lining up in the north, along with some spears. The toughest they are going to have are maces and pikes (no saltpeter and none to buy that I can find).

Take Thessalonica first then move on Athens, but always have a settler in reserve to build an outpost in the empty lands. Just make sure there are cats and horses in reserve to deal with any strikes from the Grecian east.

We need culture badly but I have no idea how to get it and still claim the continent. Maybe the best thing is to forget culture and science and just push ahead with the wars.

So go beat up on some Greeks before those towns convert to Grecian ownership.

A little culture shock

CultureShock.jpg

Keep your eyes open on the luxury deals, and keep them renewed, we don't want any of them going to the opposition.

Don't be afraid to threaten war if you need to make a per turn deal. The rep is now busted so that will be the only way. Another thing to consider is an alliance with Rome against whoever their enemy might be at the moment. That usually makes trading credit good so long as you have a common enemy and Rome appears to be the head and shoulders leader right now.

Ghostwind - up
azzaman - claim it if GW doesn't check in in 24
SpikeIt - gets to fight the Greeks again I think
residuetiger - Chinese Round 2
juballs2001 - got us some horses, no?
Bede - drove the Chinese off the island and got us caught up in knowledge, if not much else.

Great turn there Bede. I know no one on this team could have played that better. :goodjob:

Wow. Taking a look at the map and that map stat flip calc. Border City has a chance to be flipped by Rome?? The closest Roman city is rank one. Wow. The Greeks really managed to fill in the land quickly didn't they? And now they'll start flipping us. We're really hurting for culture - check out the succession game stat page.

The Greeks have military tradition, but no saltpeter. Let's hope they don't take out Macao way up in the mountains.

I will play if im needed to but im very behind in homework. I can play in about 4 days though, because its the start of the school holdidays on friday.
