Some people have already seen this as I finished it a few weeks back, but I thought I'd put it up here anyway...

SHAI-HULUD: Sandworm of Arrakis, the 'Old Man of the Desert','Old Father Eternity,' and 'Grandfather of the Desert.' Significantly, this name, when referred to in certain tone or written with capital letters, designates the earth deity of Fremen hearth superstitions. Sandworms grow to enormous size (specimens longer than 400 meters have been seen in the deep desert) and live to great age unless slain by one of their fellows or drowned in water, which is poisonous to them. Most of the sand on Arrakis is credited to sandworm actions.

This was my first unit created completely from scratch - homemade mesh, armature (bones) and animation - so I'm pretty happy with it. It is quite Dune specific I suppose, but could be adapted into some sort of sea monster perhaps.

Notes
1) I've included the effects, attachables and sounds that go with it. All the XML should be in the readme file included. (Let me know if I missed something and I'll sort it out)
2) Also included are 512x512 textures for the reskinners out there.

Thanks go to Frank Herbert for the inspiration, the Coyote for the animation guidance/encouragement and the Sarlacc for the teeth. I can also recommend Super3boy's YouTube Blender tutorials for those looking to do custom rigging and animation in Blender.

All software used in making this unit is freeware: Blender, NifSkope and Paint.NET. I can recommend all three.

Be sure to check out Dune Wars version 1.3 recently released, and the Dune Wars Art Thread for more Dune related graphical goings on.

While I will probably never use it, it looks very impressive! In fact I'll probably download a mod I otherwise would not have just to see it in action. Great work! :goodjob:

my poor warhammer - he looks so small compared to the worm

like already said, great unit :)

Nice job, I saw the WIP but it looks more impressive done. As to the model, I thought you said you got it off some 3d warehouse site, same place you got the model for the thopter.

Thanks all.

I original started with this mesh from Google 3D. However, I wanted something much smoother and organic looking so I recreated the mesh myself. When the Ornithopter is done, I'll certainly be crediting the Google 3D artist.

How come we don't see you around Dune Wars anymore, Ajidica? I know you contributed to the earlier development...

Ah, so you just based it off an already existing mesh, but didn't use that mesh.

Main reason I'm not working on Dune Wars is that all the skills I have are redundant. I can't really do much art, and I can't do python so that sort of limits what I can do. Also, its just going in some odd directions, such as the idea of tanks on Dune. They would be of little use. All of the (major) fighting takes place out of sand, where any sort of artillery the tanks would use would be neutralized by the shields. Plus the sand wouldn't help in maintnence and IIRC, the sand becomes magnetized and can really interfere with moving parts. In addition, I've been working on my mod where I'm trying to merge Final Frontier with RevDCM.

This is awesome.

EDIT: The button is missing though.

So I installed it and it is a red blob when normal, but gets a graphic in combat.

Kinda looks cool with the red blob, like it's busting out of the earth surounded by lava
