Soooooo, anyone else feel like speculating on the various 'Specialized' units? Let's try to fill out this chart.

The Mongols' Horsemen, and the War Party for the iroquois are fairly self explanatory. I selected a 'Defensive' adled elephant for the Persians in honour of the ones used by Darius to drive off Alexander when the Greeks were ripping through Asia minor.

Has Firaxis said there will be only one special unit per civ? Some months back I read (don't remember if it was in a review or just someone's posting) there might be one special unit PER ERA in order to keep things balanced.

The only problem with that is that many of these civs don't exist anymore so all the era's couldn't be completed. Babylonians died out before 1AD. Same thing with the Persian empire and Greek (not nessasarily at 1 AD but you get the point.

They're both far too important to be left out.

And IF they get the babylonians in, then they should get the CHARIOT since their ancestors invented the friggin' wheel in the first place.

The French of the Germans could just as easily have their special unit be the knight.

It was the Greeks who developed the phalanx and used it quite effectively until they ran into Roman legions. Or the Greeks could just as soon have the battle trireme as they won many a naval battle against greater numbers.

The Mongols SHOULD have a good cavalry unit because they relied mainly on horsemen. I think that the elephant unit should be an attacking one (with strong defence nonetheless) and should be Indian. The Aztecs should maybe get a better warrior in the beginning of the game and I think it wasn't the Egyptians who made the war chariot (I'll have to check my old history schoolbook to see who really did)...

I like the mameluke idea, but the Egyptians should get the mameluke. the Persians are probably going to get an elephant. We will just have to wait for the civ of the week to get to those guys.
