Shiro's Unit work thread

like a katana?

I think the katana props would work. Early Chinese and Korean single-edged dao/do swords were similar to katanas anyway.

Something along the lines of a Paedo:

If the American Swordsman feller is gonna be given some kind of a "Legionnaire" name -- seeing how he's got a Classically Roman helmet -- shouldn't he also have a rectangular shield, like a Roman Legionnaire too? (I guess oval could work for a really early Legion...)

heres your pallette Shiro...

I'll adress your question in the PM you sent me here so that anyone else reading can see it as well my friend

1. Download Pedit

2. Download Vuldacon's Essentual Colors Pallette(he has a tutorial on the tutorial board somewhere)

3. Using Pedit, open your bmp storyboard of whatever unit you want to make the pallette for, and also open Vuldacon's essentual colors pallette.

4. Using pedit, using the mouse to go over the unit bmp, and select colors from it one pixel at a time to add to the pallette.

5. Save the pallette you just made

Thats all there is to it. You also have to have a program, I use Paintshop Pro, to apply the pallette to your storyboard before you use Steph's Storyboard Builder and Flicster to turn them into Flics.

Sword, don't you have a round shield you could lend him? :)

You I have a round shield, two actually but unfortunately...no texture for it...I could ask Utahjazz if he could help since this is his department, could you help if possible?

Come on, it's not that hard to make a texture map! Oh well, . . . yeah, I can make up a round shield fairly quickly, so that's no problem.

What I need is a picture of what shield is requested. That way, I know if I should make any "bumps" on the shield, or if it needs any trim, etc. Also, should I provide just a texture map with the prop, or should I also create the texture for it? The best way to get me this info is by sending me a private message. I'll be looking for it. :)

how do you select civ color?

Well, I don't know what you mean by "how do you select civ color?". I'm assuming that you mean, how do you set up civ-color in the palette. If that's right I think I know how--but I'm not positive. I'm going to try to give you instructions from memory, so be kind. :)

_____

1. Open an existing unit in FLICster. The unit should have the same shadow and smoke values that you are planning on using. If you're using Poser, you'll want to grab a unit of Kinboat's, or maybe one of mine.

2. Next, go to the export tab.

3. There is an option for setting the civ-specific color. Set this value to the color that you want to have civ-specific. For example, maybe you want to use red instead of blue--select the red civ-color.

4. Export the unit to a storyboard.

5. If you open up the newly created palette (*.pal), then the civ-specific color that you chose in the export settings (for example, red) should have replaced the original civ-specific color of the unit's palette (probalby blue).

6. Now you can simply edit the palette as your unit dictates.

Okay, I hope I didn't leave anything out. I haven't actually done this for a very long time. At least I tried . . .
