Short fun game (immortal)

Anarchy lenght depends on the empire size - not sure if it's 2 for 2 for us yet. Even a single turn means -4 cossacks here though, no civics can make up for that during the rest of the game IMo.

Capping is indeed also about kill ratio, but I'm under the impression that that constraint is quite forgiving. :) Normal other constraints apply. 2x pop, 2x land, 1.5x power, enemy below average power among others.

Report time!

We started the round by triggering a golden age and switchting into slavery... this doesn't improve our gnp (note the decrease of gpt between the next two pics due mostly to less merchants being run)...

I gift gunpowder to Mao as I was afraid of him loosing cities to indians... unfortunately he has nothing to offer. I hold with military tradition so i can trade for astro later.

Formal declaration of war:

Civ4ScreenShot1232.jpg

I move one or two cuirassiers to see what is happening in ennemy territory, but loose them IBT to counter attacks (note to self use some overflows on spies)
We also met this guy IBT:
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot1233.jpg

He has some techs to trade but I guess we don't wanna boost him for now.
There wasn't any interesting resources at times but maybe I misread the screen (or misread later)
We don't see any indian stack incoming so don't move, wanna him to do the first move...

In 1430 Churchill makes it to chemestry so we grabs it:
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot1234.jpg

He is told to work on constitution...
Still no signs of the enemies. Churchill is happily sending a medieval stack (I am not putting any monney on this attempt)

1450: the biggest nose in civ4 history pops in
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot1235.jpg

As Mysty stressed, he is in war mode already and know only us, Bismarch and his friend Roosy... is he planning an invasion?
The same turn, our frist spy/sentry have visibility over the target city: it is empty!
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot1236.jpg

Indian stack just moved south east as you can see. I decide to move most of our army west of the city to hit next turn. A secondary stack end up close to the ennemy one. (south east of the city)
Amazingly, the english stack is still alive (though badly injured).

Roosevelt asks for help... refused!
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot1238.jpg

And a bloodbath later:
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot1239.jpg

I then proceed to eliminate the remaining stack which is east of Varanasi in last pic.
We get a GG for our efforts, I leave him for now so we decide what to do with him (my vote is for medic as Mysty). Some coastal cities are put on wealth waiting for astronomy (allow to store overflows)
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot1240.jpg

the city itself has some goodies: great library, Parthenon, and Versailles (moot after SP but still shiny!). Some nice infra together with a set of espionnage buildings.
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot1241.jpg

It's already the end of the GA (damn quick speed!) so we switch back in caste to grow a GM in St Petersburg. Cities with room under caps are set to grow a bit so we can work most of the workshops. Happiness problems start to kick in cities not whipped (biggest ones such Moscow). We order a few theaters... and up the culture slider. ( :whipped: for later bad management as Mysty pointed out)
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot1242.jpg

1480: Mao finally reachs astro (so much for building up the fleet!)... I trade for it, but do forget to order something next (:whipped:) I give him chemestry so he can build frigates and be somewhat usefull.
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot1243.jpg

1490: Our army is standing on the hill next to Vyjanagara: I thought we could make it at first so decided to bring all the guns but vetoed it seeing the garison and rethinking at the last assault...

8 turns have passed so I stop for discussion anyway...

save is in post 502 (short quickie my ... spammer alert!)

.... aaah you french guys ;)

So what is there to discuss? How to proceed the war with gandhi... I gave my opinion there. About upgrading... I think it's worth it... Civics... not worth switching for rep but for communism (and rep at the same time if possible for 1t)? Techpath is clear as well... Anything I missed?

Ah, the noise meant nose? Pronounced like [nua:s] I assume? ;)

Not sure if there's much more to discuss except what city to aim for next. I'm all for Bombay in 2 turns. The rest above sounds pretty much exactly like what I was thinking.

Bombay is 3 turns away, but I think it's a better target. Let Churchill absorb the attacks from Gandhi for the time being. If we can outflank Gandhi's army, we may be able to capture Delhi (which should definitely break him).

I don't think there's much more to discuss - bbp - just remember to trade for the extra :) that are floating around so that we can push the culture slider down some. I'd also switch to stockpiling gold since SM isn't urgent yet especially with the Versailles.

I am in a general agreement with the last 3 posts... Going for Bombay, stockpilling gold (and bomb cash GM) for upgrades, as well as waiting for communism to discuss civics again sounds good. (and yeah noise was supposed to be nose  but I apparently can't spell anything correctly!)

You guys did all my work for me! :mischief:

Plan
  • I agree with going for Bombay first. I'll see how it unfolds, but hopefully Delhi right after that. Might not happen in my TS. I think a couple of cities might be enough for him to fold, so I'll try to be efficient in diverting troops south if it comes up.
  • City micro: I'll hire mostly merchants, I think. Novgorod can do 2 merchants instead of a shop and Eng, and still do a plop/turn, for instance. After the resource trades, I'll grow everything as much as possible, but I agree we should work some mines/shops when getting close to limit.
  • I think EP on Bismarck is fine. We don't really need to know anything about Gandhi at this point.
  • Trade for Mao's whale. Roosevelt has incense and spices, so I'll get those, as well. We have a few things to offer him, so I'll take the 11gpt, too.
  • Constitution: Churchill wants either Astro+RP or Astro+435g for it. certainly wouldn't give him cash, as we need that. I wouldn't bother adopting Rep here, but we might wanna build a few Jails (though, tbh, I don't expect to build anything other than units during the next set).
  • Should we get OB with Roosevelt and send the GM there? It doesn't matter too much, but I'd like to throw in another unit or two and scout their continent a bit. We could have a galleon transport a scout or two there and return in about 15t.

If I'm forgetting anything that was discussed, no worries, I'll review the thread before playing. I'm up in the Taxman SG, as well. I think I'll play that one tonight, as it came up first. Tmr night should be ok for this.

Sounds like a good plan. A single scout to Roos should be enough to find the size of his SoD. Not that it really matters much but it'd be nice to know what we'll have to deal with later.

Can we still build caravels? If yes, we don't need an OB. I don't know whether this is worth it really, the delay in getting the cash probably doesn't make up for losing x00g by cashbombing in a city on our continent. Where's the ToA?

ToA is in Washington... I am about to change my mind about the GM in fact: less money now is prolly better than more later.

I'll give him RP then.

I don't see why we're in such a mad rush for cash. That said, I suppose some scouting on the other continent and the cash-bomb are separate issues, that I just happened to lump together. I don't really care too much whether we cash-bomb on the home continent or in Washington, tbh. What's our best bet - Beijing?

Mad rush for cash is mainly because of hoping to nix Gandhi sooner by upgrading Cuirassiers (say, in Bombay). Cash bomb wants a big city far away, so yeah Beijing probably does the trick. The amount caps quite low as well so it doesn't matter that much really.

We seem to be in an agreement then, the plan sounds good :)

This game is almost in the mop-up phase and there's still no word about SGOTM11 as far as I know - are we going to do another normal SG after this? Too early to discuss? :)

Actually, mad rushing for cash is definitely the better option here. If we upgrade to cossacks, it'll boost our power rating (a bit), making it more likely that Gandhi will capitulate.

@Silu,
 Dude, you're already in 3 SG's that I know of. How many do you wanna do at a time?
Do you have a variant idea? I guess I'm not opposed to starting one relatively soon if the SGOTM doesn't show up. We could always just put it on hold if the SGOTM begins in earnest.

Yeah, I understand it's for upgrades, I just wasn't sure when and where the upgrades would happen if we wanna keep moving forward. On second thought, having cash in hand is better, I agree. Bombay might be the spot to do it.

@shyuhe
It's +3,000 soldiers for each upgrade. It's something - hopefully as much 50-60k for the cash-bomb. Plus, we gain in battle odds, ofc.

I haven't any update on the next SGOTM... but Mutineer (for those not knowing him, I advise having a look at the SG subforum ;)) replyed positively to our PM! :goodjob:

Hope folk will be fine with me, as I do tend to use unorthodox solutions and looking for new way of playing all the time. :) Some times It is hard on people. :)

Welcome to Mutineer in One Short Straw! :band:

Hey, when this game ends I'll only be in two! :D Coincidentally those 3 SGs are also my first SGs, maybe it's the novelty of the thing or something... :p I don't have any bright variant ideas ready though.

About Mutineer's comments about unorthodox solutions or new playstyles, I'm all for that :) I think that's the salt of SG'ing, getting all kinds of solution ideas to arising problems, including wacky ones, and learning new stuff. I think the proverbial "book" is strongly enough represented in this team to keep our feet on the ground

Playing now... Slow going, man. 3t in, we captured Bombay pretty easy. Delhi's not too well defended... I'll have to take a break for a while, so report not coming for a few hours.

Hi folk, good to be here. I need to lift my bottom and check your game. it is good idea to know playstiles of one's teammates.
