Should Britain leave the EU?

Britain (together with Ireland) is opposed to the new Franco-German tax plan for Europe which is designed to integrate the internal market even further. Do you believe that Britain is slowing down EU integration and should leave? Or do you believe that Britain adds something valuable to the EU.

Meanwhile, Germany, France and Italy are still our most important trading partners along with USA. I doubt we'll be leaving any time soon, especially if our little Italy-Spain-UK axis works out as well as we hope.

That is a very fragile alliance. Spain and Britain have still not solved the Gibraltar issue. Meawhile signore Berlusconi hardly conforms to the british vision of the 'rule of law' so forcefully popaganded for by mr. Blair. Whatever happened to New Labours 'moral' foreign policy? You should get Poland on board too when or if they join.

We need Europe, I am sick of the pathetic tax Blair puts on everything.
Joining Europe would mean cheaper manufactured products! More employment...etc, what is wrong with that?

The UK is a great power, but we should really get used to the idea that we are not superior to other Euro states.

I woud rather have French and German women all over the UK than the coarse ugly-chicks that are populate our fair island.

And sometimes I prefer the open-minded Europeans to my own bigoted British countrymen.

But I am proud of Britain, and it is madness to suggest we go for a USA-style isolation policy...in Europe that is impossible.

I am for unity, not dis-unity.

And a union of Euro-states WILL happen, it is merely a case of when, not if.

So get your vodka and fur-caps ready, Comrades!

I'm sorry, I don't follow. Tax in this much country is much lower than most of Europe. Tax harmonisation is an expressed wish of many Europeans, and you can bet that ours would be harmonised up, not Europe's harmonised down.

We are in Europe - do you mean the Euro?

If so, it will not lead to higher employment just like that. Why do you think it for definite? As an aside, unemployment in this country is about 5% (1 million), in France it's about 10%, in Germany it's 4 million.

Agreed. But that doesn't mean we should join the Euro regardless of the consequences.

Perhaps. Even if it does come into being, however, that is no guarantee that a) it will be a success and b) that it will not collapse and cause serious damage to the members.
