I'm currently playing as arabia (philosophical/spiritual) and I'm trying to maximize specialists in each city so I can spit out as many great people as possible. I'm finding that most of my cities are not suffering from unhappiness or disease, so lack of food is the only thing stunting growth in them. If i try to assign a citizen to be a specialist, my city either becomes stagnant or begins to starve. At this point in my game, my cities are so populated, I can afford to starve them a little in order to assign specialists. Do you think this is a good idea?

P.S. I absolutely love this game!

I starved one of my cities down to one citizen [to attempt the Globe Theatre] but could never get rid of the friggin' unhappiness. Even with a population of one these guys were "just too crowded".

How does starving down your population get you the globe theatre? SHouldn't you keep iut high to produce the necessary hammers?

Um, yeah. Globe Theater gives you 0 . It doesn't require it; as you found out, there's always at least 1  from overcrowding, so every city has some - unless, of course, it has the Globe Theater.
