Should you be afraid of Hell?

Should you be afraid of Hell?
Same reason I'm not afraid of big foot, Loch Ness monster, yetis or the boogeyman... They don't exist.

Thoughts about Hell saved more depressed people from suicide than all the prevention hotlines combined. It is sad how people use Problem of Evil to remove God from the picture. Which simply makes things even more depressing, for now we still have evil without even a hope of justice somewhere.

Wait, what? How come Hell prevents suicide? "Oh, this is a crappy place, but where I'm headed, mud lakes and demons galore!"

You're simply confusing two realities here. Physical reality and spiritual one. Big foot belongs to this physical world which is accessible to you during the 70-80 years of your average life. You can examine it to collect evidence against the existence of physical thing. Hell is a spiritual reality. It becomes accessible after 70-80 years of your average life. You cannot examine it and cannot collect evidence against the existence of the spiritual thing. You can only choose to believe in it, or choose to believe in absence of it.

Why do you sound so incredulous? Suicide is the only sin you cannot repent for. And therefore cannot ask God for forgiveness. So by killing yourself you go from the bad place to much worse.

Even better reason to say its existence is questionable. If you can't show evidence for something, quit running around saying 'If you don't believe, your doomed'.

There is no spirit or hell... show me the evidence.

There is nothing you cant question. You can even question the meaning of your existence and commit suicide which is an evidence for something. You are simply not just piece in mashinery of nature becouse you can brake its laws...

Philosophers are people who constantly question things and then make it complicated for everyone else.

I guess.

That is the great thing about thinking for yourself. I don't have to question my existence... that is not a evidence for anything. I am me... no more no less.

That is how philosophers make their living. Take something simple, make it sound complicated, give everyone their reasoning and get everyone to follow you because they are the only ones with the answers. That is how you get a religion.

Its the nature of mind to question everything even its own conclusion and existence which leads to self-destruction. I agree its great to think for yourself but on its own itsnt sufficient. It cant offer you but temporary solutions no permanent satisfaction.
And you have already discovered who you are? Incredible.

It seems awfully arrogant to dismiss another person's statement that he knows who he is.

Why do you think people use the Problem of Evil to remove God from the picture?

I don't think that's how it is. People see there's the Problem of Evil and can't reconcile it with a benign God. I think many people would like there to be a God, but feel that if they're going to have integrity they can't believe in one.

Instead of telling them they're "using the Problem of Evil", why don't you just solve it for them?

And for a long time, I've been really not sure that Justice is a real thing anyway, with or without God. I don't find this depresses me, though.

You may be right that fear of Hell saves a lot of people from suicide. But there simply aren't any figures on how many are saved by hotlines, nevermind the numbers saved by fear of Hell. So you may not be right at all.

Many, many more are probably saved by considerations for near relatives, I think.

It seems awfully arrogant to dismiss another person's statement that he knows who he is.

It seems awfully ignorant assume you know what greatest minds of ages have trouble to define.

But Mr Monkey was saying that he has simply no reason to doubt his existence. And I agree with him.

He wasn't saying he knows who he is, beyond the fact that he is himself. I can't see anything to argue about.

He claimed self-knowledge and that he doesnt have to question who he is. He even claims to know his limits.

Here is what he said, again:

I'm not sure I agree with your interpretation.

Is it faulty of me to deduce that if one is willing to question the existence of spirit but feels no need to question the nature of his existence that he has came to conclusions about his existence?
No one really questions the fact that he exist but one can question the true nature and limits of his existence and its meaning.
