SHWH01 - Iroquois Tree Huggers

Well done Scout.

@ Whomp - I think you have to put more restrictions on the variant or move up a level for some challenges.

Thanks for the compliments on the endgame, team... and thanks for joining in on this friendly little slugfest. Though it wasn't quite what I thought it might be... I had fun with it. :D

@Bede: We borrowed a page or two from your playbook on working coastal tiles and hiring specialists; 1bpt to you, my friend. :hatsoff:

@SimpleMonkey: The board's been buggy today, and I need to get to bed soon. I'll dig up an autosave, convert it to a regular save, and post it in here for you tomorrow night.

You guys are some wonderful landscape architects. We planted lots of trees.

:xmastree:

Um, speak for yourselves. :mischief:  I think the rest of the team is able to play at higher levels than I can. :(

methinks harriet needs to play an AW...
Methinks that sounds like fun in September after my employer gives me back my life. Until then it's nights and weekends either at the office or bringing work home. I'll be lucky just to check the board now and then. This will be my 30th summer closing, and I hope to be retired by this time next year.

Anyway, an AW will give me something to look forward to this fall. :p Last September was my very first SG in a training game with Bede. It's been a wild and fun ride with Civ this past year thanks to my wonderful teammates. :D

How about the 2nd week in September? Not the week with Labor Day in it, but the following week. By that time I ought to be ready to go out and slay everything in sight.

I will at the very least be watching such a game with great interest. (Playing in it would of course be nice, too.) By September I'm sure folks could come up with a very interesting AW variant to play.

How about a reprise of the first game of the Bede and Bugsy show:

Non Oscillating War Monarch (NOWM)

Requirements:
Declare on first opponent met, then declare on the others in the order met upon destruction of Enemy Number #1 (or in the stricter variant within 20 turns of that meeting).

So meet the first , delcare. Declare on 2 when 1 is dead, on 3 when 2 is dead and so on.

Once a declaration in order has been made it is to the death.

None of the above precludes declaring on an opponent before its time and making peace with an out of order opponent is permitted.

Makes for some interesting diplomacy particularly if you abide by the "honorable" rule of honoring all deals until they have run their course.

Now, wouldn't NOW Demigod be even more interesting?

Other possible additional complications:

1. Once writing is discovered, we must establish embassies. Every war waged after that must be with at least one ally on our side. Makes for interesting diplomacy decisions.

2. This wasn't specified in Bede's rules, but we could require that war on #2 must be declared in the same turn in which #1 is destroyed. No sandbagging.

3. Could require that all conquered cities are razed. Or, conversely, that all conquered cities are kept. Keeping them would require some fancy management (and putting up with the AI's lousy city placement).

4. No arty.

5. Must have culture in every city.

6. Must maintain WLTK day in all cities.

Or am I just getting nuts here? :crazyeye:

lurker's comment: With those requirements, NOW Monarch would sound like a good idea. ;) But maybe thats just me, cause I cant handle Demigod, let alone, with a crazy variant. :p

Oh and, Congratulations to all, will there be a SHWH02?

Um, in a word...yes! ;)

I thought AW was ALREADY a game variant. I did an AW at Warlord and another one at Regent about a year ago with LOTS of help from lurkers here. I don't remember much about it, except that you limit your inital scouting and build a barracks early. I'd have a lot to learn, and Bede's idea sounds interesting to me.

If the rest of you want to do a real hard uber-variant with AW, go for it. I should have a bit of lurking time this summer, and I'll watch with great interest. I might even learn something :D
