This is impossible even on Chieftain.
Not if you're left on an island not reachable unit Navigation - The AIs can't really research at all in Chieftain.

I read Bamspeedy's AW/Sid level/Archip game thread. It was very funny but that was only Bamspeedy's writing style. The actual game struck me as a real waste of time and an unbearably boring grind. As others have said - NOT FUN. But I accept some players out there need it.

Personally I'm a Monarch player and only venture up a level sometimes for a challenge.

I've recently found it more fun trying out mods and scenarios and beating those, rather than following an almost formulaic strategy to win in the epic game.

And I'm getting my Civ challenges out of trying to create mindblowing scenarios.

What about a sid AW/OCC/no military!
Could be possible if you start on your own island and define that navy != military. Then kill all AI boats with dromons, pillage their lands and win with 20k :p

LOL.. I still play MOO1 as well.

I always play MOO on "impossible", but not Civ :)

AW/OCC/No military is very possible on any difficulty. If you're on a one square island and not against vikings, and can get 20k before amphibious war, it's easy. Just kidding, try building wonders with 1 shield.

no need for that.. just start on an island and put workers or catapults on every coastal tile, and the AIs wont land (even if they in reality can in c3c)..

I can barely handle the easy levels, let alone anthing even close to Sid. People have actually won at this level?

As for Always War, I've never tried at any level and doubt that I will as I usually play for a cultural win.

Well I don't even own Conquests, but I know Sid will be too crazy for me. I always beat Emperor but I'm incapable of beating Deity. What's wrong with me?

I had the same problem. The're nothing wrong with you. If you constantly win on Emp, just move up and wait for a 4-turn start. It's actually not much tougher. But it's very hard to lead in techs (I never do).

Do not know anything about your game, but I could beat Deity once I understood the value of early workers.
I will often delay the production of a settler in order to train a worker first, the worker will build the road in the direction of the next city so, I won't loose so much time to found my next city, as my settler will be able to move faster.
