Welcome fellow civ'ers and lurkers, yesterday i was bored, so i turned to pbs (misclicked the remote actually) and saw a documentary on the Buddha was on and i thought "ooh this looks cool" so i decided to play a game of civ in which I play a "Buddhist" game of civ

here's the game: standard everything map, Asoka of India (in game name is Siddhartha)

the challenge: build the 3 Buddhist wonders: Angkor wat, mahibodhi, and swedwoncan'tspellthis paya, you MUST found Buddhism, can't run slavery EVER (or caste)
no drafting, and you can only declare war on someone if you declare it "holy" (holy meaning so that they don't wipe you of the face of planet later)

Edit: New rule list
Found buddhism
Build 3 buddhist wonders
you can only draft 10 times the whole game
no slavery or caste
can world builder gold and marble in your bfc
you can only bulb philosophy or aesthetics with the oracle
You can only declare war if you find it holy or think their a threat (real or imaginary :mischief:)

can only send out settlers with buddhist missionaries

without further ado, i bring you...

ooo, corn, also since we'll add marble and gold, this is a good start (and we have ivory which we'll need lator)

attachment.php

EXPANSION!

attachment.php

the year was 3680 bc, 3680 years before christ would come (no joke christianity was founded at 1 ad in this game of civ 4!) a great leader came, The Buddha! His teachings taught inner peace and would be the guiding philosophy that would destroy or create india, after his death delhi become known by a different name: Lumbini, named after his birthplace which was long gone by the time he died

as you can see we founded buddhism
attachment.php

next, we see our warrior after being attacked by a lion in a tough jam
attachment.php

and here's where our start seems a bit worse... atleast its not cyrus
attachment.php

will we die? will we not? will every one become elephants and chase immortals in 900 a.d.? <----(hint hint)

find out next time on mah lil pwny Siddhartha of India: The Civ 4 Buddhist challenge!

Looks like an interesting story, Moai. One question, though: what will you do if you fail to build one of the wonders or found Buddhism? Keep going as if it didn't happen? Try to take the city with the wonder/holy city by force (could that count as a "holy" war)? Start the entire game over?

it would qualify as holy war, but don't worry, i've played into the game already a bit, and i built them all

ooo quote coming on
"Meditation brings wisdom; lack of meditation leaves ignorance. Know well what leads you forward and what holds you back."
- The Buddha

guess what game that quote was in

expect another update seeing as i have nuffin better to do ;)

also if you guess what game that quote was in you get +5000 useless points :D

working on the update now actually, and an extra rule, if you build the oracle (wut the marbles for
) you can only bulb aesthetics or philosophy

welcome back! its been... lets see, about 3 hours so update incoming (i think i might've just broke a record)

oh and i think ill make this a narrative

in our many travels, we warrior men armed with clubs have had to face lions and panthers, and pain in our hearts we felt at their deaths, we all sat under trees one day, when we met a lost Buddhist missionary, he led us back to the village, to the palace of king asoka, where he told us we could visit the pillgrims, there we learned wut the buddha learned, and we felt the stir of the universe, and we now are considered enlightened, it is true, we are the enlightened ones! We have found inner peace.
attachment.php

we now can use slavery BUT u know wut the rules say...

After the people learned how to work bronze the immortal prince of india, siddhartha, the son of the late asoka, was asked to implement slavery, he seeked the guidance of the enlightened ones, and they said, as the buddha would want, curse this ideology
and it was so
attachment.php

one the the celestial eve of the year 2320 bc, the chinese people met india, their leader mao zedong, offered siddhartha his little read book to learn something, siddhartha said, the only books i need is the Bhagavad Gita and all of the inheritance cycle (who got the reference ;))
attachment.php

i have a settler ready with a missionary (forgot to put that one rule was settlers CAN ONLY be sent out with buddhist missionarys)

"i have taught this small family ready to settle much"thought Gandhi the Missionary
he, Gandhi, was a missionary sent with a settler group, ready to teach the town they would build his religion as king Siddhartha instructed
attachment.php

"These ignorant people!" thought Gandhi, who was dubbed siddhartha's pilgrim.
He had been there 60 years and they had learned NOTHING! the next day siddhartha died of natural causes, the night he died he had a dream that he had attained enlightenment and the town's people had learned, but were too shy to let him know, at the end of his dream a voice said you will not be reborn, you have escaped the cycle, then he died. the next day, the town mourned his loss, as they laid his body to rest, a cloud in the sky appeared crystalline, and looked like a meditating man, the buddha, and the town learned the religion
attachment.php

siddhartha stared in awe at the great oracle, where his fathers tomb was watched by monks at all times, the monks informed him that day that they had learned true art (aesthetics), and that they wished to give his father a better tomb, the shwedagon paya.
attachment.php

the next few years passed and all of siddhartha's friends died off, but darius seeked counsel, after chatting darius asked for open borders, and it was given, darius said after the deal was made "thats done then, FAREWELL!"
attachment.php

over the next few years, a new idea evolved in Delhi, monotheism, part of them believed that the buddha was actually a god, and all other enlightened ones were his prophets
attachment.php

siddhartha got news that, the persians were closer then he thought, the council was worried because they knew only war could one day follow...
attachment.php

well, how'd you like the new style?

will war break out? will it not? will i update this fast again?!?

find out next time on...

yep i think i'll start workin on another update in a few minutes

working on an update starting... NOW

welcome back one and all (for the third and hopefully last time today)... i don't know what else to say so lets get started!

alright here we are at the moment

to king siddhartha, life seemed rather dull, he kept updating his CFC story repeatedly and was just looking at his glorious empire
attachment.php

a local buddhist temple in delhi was raised, in it housed the remains of Gandhi, Siddhartha's Pilgrim
attachment.php

the year was 1080 bc, when siddhartha's father finally got his true resting place, the shwedagon paya
as siddhartha sat at his father's tomb, he wept, and he sat there weeping for 10 days and 10 nights, when he stopped weeping, i found that he was thirsty, but not only thirsty for water, but for knowledge, "If my namesake Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha, achieved enlightenment, then so can I!" he swore to himself, and from that day forth, he seeked inner peace, not just for himself, but to please his wild thoughts and make his father proud, siddhartha thought to himself "It's time to make my destiny!"
attachment.php

it had been 3 days since he had finished his weeping, and he was out on a walk, when he saw a hill, a very large hill, and he climbed it. on the hill, he saw the tallest tree he had ever seen. From the tree he gazed at his glorious capital. He thought to himself "Time to embrace my destiny!" and he jumped of the tree...fell past the hill...and landed on the soft point of the shwedagon paya, how he lived, he did not know, but he thought his father was guiding him, where ever his reincarnation may be...
attachment.php

oh and here's delhi :p
attachment.php

wake up sir! yelled Siddhartha's guard. what is it? said siddhartha. sir the great wall just... got hit by a large bright flying object from the sky! it is no more! said the guard.
Well then sell the scraps of it for celestia's (:mischief:) sake!
attachment.php

and the update ends here- wait no! 2 more screenies just for you guys :D

siddhartha stared hard at the location...
the monks said it was the tree from which the buddha became enlightened, that they built the building around.
Siddhartha said let me meditate under it.
the monks responded with pleas and warnings, asking him to spare the shape of the buddha's butt that was petrified in the dirt.
Siddhartha said unless the buddha took a s**t on the spot he would sit there, becuase frankly even buddhas have stinky poo poo
so they let him sit there
attachment.php

and here's a map of where we are (in the story at least)!
attachment.php

well thats it, happy civing! (and another 5000 useles points to however guesses teh celestia reference)

Bai for now, see ya next update :D
