Sim Copter / Streets of sim city?

any1 here play sim copter or streets of sim city or atleast own them?

I just wanted to know if anyone else besides me plays them...

pretty good game, Ive already had streets of sim city and just bought sim copter at goodwill yesterday and its pretty sick.

just asking cause if therye are I wanted to know, how do I get my music to show up in the game, I did everything the F1 help thing said but it still wont work =\
 
that's funny man, did you get simtower too? I remember they sold all of those in a bundle for like 10 bucks not too long ago. Sorry I've never played them though.
 
I used to have SimCopter along with SimCity 2000! I never got around to getting Streets of SimCity though. I'd have decent amount of flying around cities made after world cities. Too bad there isn't something like that for SimCity 4.
 
I spent a lot of time flying around the cities I had built, it was great fun. I had Streets of Sim City too, but I never really got into that.
 
I played SimCopter, which was fun, but now I have MS Flight Simulator
 
Never played SimCopter, but I have Streets of SimCity. I once hoped they would make a sequel with improved graphics and physics, but now that Maxis is owned by EA, I'm certain they'd find a way to screw it up.

Music was great. If you get a chance to buy the game, buy it for the music.
 
I'd imagine it would be turned into the Fast and the Furious Streets of Simcity
 
Aye. For some reason it likes to arbitrarily crash on OSes higher than Win98. I wish I knew why...
 
I don't remember those specifically, but I just got SimTower off Abandonia. I loved that game as a kid, and now I've finally got a "Tower" level building. :goodjob:
 
SimTower is way cool, I used to play it a lot some eight years ago. I played SimCity 2000 a lot too, and a friend of mine had SimCopter. I would put my cities on a floppy disk and go to his place to fly in the cities.
 
I hope there's a SimCopter 2 or a Streets of SimCity 2 or even a better U-Drive option in SimCity 5!
 
I've got all three of those games, got them in the six-pack of games!

Streets of Sim City was fun driving around at insane speeds and trying to make sure barriers got blown up before you ran into them, but it crashed a lot. Such as whenever the building fell right before you ran into it and it pulled you down into a blue hole/screen of death. Played it the least of the three.

Sim Tower was a lot of fun. It still runs on new operating systems, too. Never actually got to 5 stars, though - got somewhat repetitive after you were already making gazillions. It runs a bit too fast on new systems, though.

Sim Copter was the most fun of the three. Fly Missions in the Metropolis. It never got old. I got up to Level 8 at the highest, then it just became too crazy and I couldn't complete the missions as fast as they came it. Half the city was burning it seemed like. Unfortunately it doesn't take kindly to newer versions of Windows, as Thorvald of Lym mentioned. I couldn't get it to run for more than about 30 seconds with Vista. But even if I can't play it now, at least I can still listen to the surprisingly high-quality music it came with.

edit: SWEET!!! Sim Copter has a download that appears to run well on XP! See http://www.download.com/SimCopter-demo/3000-7551_4-10004926.html. I wasn't able to test it for too long because I burned up my helicopter while trying to put out a fire on my first mission in several years, but it certainly ran longer than I was able to get the full version to run in Vista. Just remember to set the install program to Windows 95 Compatibility Mode after downloading it and you'll be having a grand ol' time flying missions in the metropolis again.

edit2: Argh. An unrecoverable error occured. :sad: Well, it lasted longer than it did on Vista. But somehow I don't think it's just a regular crash. They happened all too often even in Windows 9x, but this bodes poorly. (one try later) Yeah, I'm getting about 4 minutes. Made it up to 2280 bucks but it ain't going to keep running. Too bad, it's a fun game.
 
Streets of SimCity was probably the most fun I had in a computer game as a kid. Same with SimCopter (before I bought Red Alert, haha). But then they just got really repetitive and I didn't bother playing them much after having them for about a year.

"An unrecoverable error has occurred and SimCopter must quit. Do you want to try and save the game"

Having trouble running Simcopter on a modern computer running XP or Vista? (i.e. it runs for a short while then you get the preceding death message?) And you found that running simcopter.exe in "compatibility mode" doesn't help? Me too.

Well I found the solution! It turns out that SimCopter needs a slower CPU to run properly (I think the code is using software loops for timing purposes - a bad idea). Well Microsoft has (or used to have) a little utility (cpugrab.exe from their Directshow SDK toolkit) that uses up a user selectable amount of the CPU which effectively slows it down for all the other running programs - i.e. SimCopter! So to run SimCopter without the annoying "unrecoverable errors", follow these steps:
  • Download cpugrab.zip and extract cpugrab.exe (you can find it HERE)
  • Run cpugrab.exe and set the slider bar to 75% (or higher or lower)
  • Run SimCopter
  • Have fun saving Sims!
  • When you finally exit Simcopter, it sometimes ends with an error message.

I have an AMD64 3700+ running at 2.4GHz and found that a cpugrab setting of 75-80% works just fine. Faster CPUs may require a higher setting. Yesterday, I played all 11 career levels in a row without a single crash... (well, there were a couple helicopter crashes!) Also, I only tried this on XP but I imagine it would work just fine on Vista too.

SimCopter is good game. I've played Streets of SimCity a few times but I'm not sure exactly what I'm supposed to do.

One of my favourite things to do in SimCopter is go really close to boats, knock them down, and sometimes rescue people.

Something I found funny is sometimes if you have a healthy person, and drop them on a hospital roof, you get money for medevac. Not all the time, though.

I also like blowing up things with the Apache copter.

Wow - this worked! :hatsoff: I didn't think I'd be able to get Sim Copter working, especially after it didn't work in a virtual machine running 9x. But, what do you know, I got a whole half-hour of running time just now, six minutes more than I've ever got before on this machine and about ten times what I usually get. It didn't crash at all - it's just a bit late now.

One thing to note is that you'll need to run two CPUGrabbers if you have a dual-core system (more for quad-core, etc.). I ran them at 99% and 85% with a 2.2 GHz Core 2 Duo, effectively making it a 330 MHz Core 2 Solo, and the game ran great.
