A feature I dislike in CIV3, and previous incarnations, is the series of mini reports that cause a lot of delay between turns. I would much rather receive one big report (2 cities are rioting, the English are building Shakespeare's Theater...) so the turn completes more quickly.

Yes!!! This is something I would love to see.

In C3C its actually useful to see each unhappy event in turn as you have the option to automatically sort the problem by allowing the computer to reassign city workers.

I think this would be a great improvement, as long as it is possible to zoom to the items on the list ie. the two cities that are rioting.

Good idea in general, but some people might not like it...
This should be configurable through the options menu...
So You can say i want separate reports or combined one..
This way everyone will be happy.

Yeh not a bad idea, but like Dell19 said it is usefull to have civil disorder pop-ups. So, you shoul;d be able to have the choice between the 2 :)

Nothing worse than a 100-city civ suddenly going through a change of government and getting 50 "City in Disorder" boxes.

Heh...how about the SMAC solution: an event window with a list of events, and you can just click on them to zoom to them, or ignore them...no popups at all!

The big hassle is going through all 100 cities rearranging the city workers so that the cities won't fall into disorder...

when moo3 was being developed, they said one of the things they wanted to do was allow the player to control as much or as little of their empire as they wanted. well, whether they accomplished that or not is difficult to tell since the game was unplayable. but i like the idea of being able to appoint govenors, people in my government with actual identities. that might be the function of having a palace (being able to produce magistrates). if i'm engaged in a world war, and my forces are taking two cities a turn, i don't want to have to get bogged down in micromanagement if i don't want to. the governor system in c3c doesn't work very well: some time and energy into improving it would be nice to see.

I am playing, thus I want to be in control, not some AI governor.

But, I would like to have a good staff, which provides me with a proper overview of information. E.g. what has happened the last year, sorted with the most important topics (selectable in some way) on top. Everything hyperlinked so that all the information is at your finger tips.

One of the things I liked of Colonization was the good overviews of what was traded there.

One of the things I am missing in Civ3 is a simple overview what buildings are built in what city and what is missing.

you don't have to appoint a governor. but having the option isn't such a bad thing. being able to put faces and names to your advisory staff, then assigning them based on strenghts and weaknesses (much like, obviously, master of orion 2) would be great. you send general johnson to new york because he offers a defensive bonus to units in the city. whether you actually let him run the city (he'll build barracks and mech infantry) is up to you. i don't like the idea of the staff being generic and faceless. i don't care how good an individual leader/emperor is, the greatest of all time have always known how to develop, appoint and consort with various personnel.

I think MoO3 was quite playable. It lost some of the nice feel from MoO2, but made up for a few of them with new ideas.

Anyway, MoO3 has a nice report in the start of every turn of what has been built, developed, researched, who has gone to war with who, what has happened in the UN, etc. I would love Civ4 to implement a report like that.

Edit: Seeing the post of skycommando, I just want to add that I would LOVE to have leaders in Civ4 like in MoO2!!! :D
