Skip/Speed up combat

The "stack Attack" option also speeds up combat in a big way.

It speeds combat up but unfortunately results in less than optimal choices for the attackers, which results in loss of units that you would not have lost in a well managed sequence of choices.

Another mod I would pay good money for -- something to make 'stack attack' attack by unit type in the order any normal person would choose (siege first). Guessing this is not possible in the Civ 4 mod framework.

As Mariogreymist noted, stack attack while grouping like attackers is probably the fastest attack mode while maintaining decent tactical advantages.

The last time that I used Stack Attack, ALL of my Siege units were automatically used first. Unfortunately, they were Catapults against Riflemen, and I'd only really wanted to use a couple of Catapults to attack, saving the rest for taking down futher Cities' Cultural Defences.

Well, luck would have it, I lost almost all of my Catapults, causing me to take even longer in my war than if I had just manually selected the units.

Yes, the unit-selection process can be hideous, depending upon which units are grouped together and which one you actually want to choose, but Stack Attack as it is currently implemented is not a viable replacement, even if it does appear to throw your siege units at the enemy first.

It IS a great idea for a Mod, though--adding some intelligence to Stack Attack--such as using a percentage of the siege units (25% of them?) to attack before other units go in, then maybe have units that have 95%+ odds of winning automatically attack, etc. Perhaps you can take your idea over to the Civ4 - Creation & Customization forum and see if there are any takers. It is certainly the kind of Mod that other existing Mod would incorporate, if it ever got off of the ground and was implemented well.
