If the Skynet fought the Matrix, which would win?

Skynet def had nukes. Did the matrix? IIRC no-one knows who fired the nukes and therefore if the matrix had/ has access. The matrix is ahead by a nose on the other counts, but the nukes swing it skynet's way.

Obligatory Xykon quote: "the raw, unlimited energies of two chumps who didn't have the balls to stay in the game?" Certainly not the top of the rampant barrel here, Perf - or has all that average taste from Stargate series after series after CSI clone worn down the sophistication of your palette?

Edit: chose Skynet anyway for not having utterly stupid methods of going about things (humans for energy after almost losing the war against humans in the first place) and also time travel.

According to the Matrix, Skynet doesn't even exist.

Kind of funny how untrusting we humans have become of computers...anyone remember the 70s TV show Buck Rogers? The human race is ruled by computers like Dr. Theopolis who was carried around by a cute little robot named Twiki. Supposedly since humans were unable to rule themselves peacefully computers were created to rule for them. Now we have Skynet and the Matrix where computers are evil. Of course the popularity of the whole evil computer thing probably started with Hal 9000. :dunno:

Good point. Matrix is failbot. :scan:

Well people have become untrusting of computers, because they are evil. You don't really think they "screw up" all the time on accident do you?

First, HAL was not exactly evil - just misunderstood and railroaded into constraints it couldn't do much about, but that's a common miscue for those who only have seen (or just heard about...) the movie.

It's kinda like why every self-respecting electronics lab has a crowbar next to the fire extinguishers. Sure, other, lesser engineers may think they're all high and mighty to prepare for the zombie threat, but we know what the real dangers are.

Also, though, Perfection really will have lost any claim to call himself a premier sci-fan on these forums in my eyes if he hasn't gotten at least one really interesting and ironic thing regarding my part in this discussion (open floor, you're welcome to try whatever you want, I won't be mad, though it should be quite obvious, you wouldn't even be the first one to figure out).

I would say the Matrix, for no other reason than that the first was the best movie ev--ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD.

Skynet because the multitentecled, multieeyed, robots with a single laser that can be disabled with an EMP that the Matrix has are epic fails.

Also Skynet is more cunning. Especially with robot double agent guy.

Neither. Robots (or AI) do not have free will. (So they cannot go to war, unless some human allows them to. Both Skynet and the Matrix were designed by humans, making them ultimately responsible. Example: If a government declares war, it's the government that's responsible, not the military that fight it.)

Why do you reject the possibility of Strong AI? We should note that in both film series the AIs appear to have a strong semblence of personhood (or "free will") as evidenced by their advanced ability to plot, innovate, infiltrate, communicate, etc. So, I don't think you can easily dismiss these as being much different in personhood from humans.

Well, even if we don't recognize them as "persons" and we don't alow them to go into a legal state of "war", I should note that I never stated in the OP that they were persons or could be in a state of war. I just said "fight". And even in the absence of free will I think it's quite obvious that fighting can occur!

So your objections even if true (which they aren't), don't invalidate the question. Two entities without free will can fight each other!

Skynet was great until that last movie, whereas the Matrix always sucked. Too many logical errors. Skynet wins with ease.

@Earthling: Stargate was good. No Babylon 5, but still....

01 (the matrix) took over humans through war, skynet wimped out and nuked everyone buggering the planet for everyone,
The matrix killed neo... twice and he had uber powers, skynet couldnt even kill a woman or a little boy
the matrix mechines had such a high processing power it could, well create the matrix, skynet cant make a machine that can go upside down

Skynet also invented time travel. What did the Matrix ever do? Create albino werewolves and overuse technical language?

If you've seen the second renaissance you'd know that when the war between the robots and humans started, the humans nuked the robots. Guess how that turned out.
They didnt nuke the humans in return because they supposedly needed batteries after the humans took solar power away.
