SLNES I: Masters of Ethereal

Oh, also:

To avoid untimely death of units, it is better to scout areas you want to send units to before you send them. Areas with more black on them are less known (obviously). To scout, you just mention in your orders where you want to explore (this is mentioned in the rules). You don't need a unit to scout, though you could send units to supplement your scouting (just mention you are exploring) - which might prove to be more beneficial for you. Mounted units might be best at such a thing, but so many factors to depend on there.

Gah, and one more thing.

Borders will not extend into the ocean, but you can have a "naval borders" which are sort of implied. And if you get mana centers in the ocean, they will be surrounded by your color to indicate your possession of them.

Just you wait till your wizard is locked in a time sphere :)

Just you wait until your wizard wakes up one morning with two pigs, a scarecrow, a wyvern, and a crossdressing dwarf.

Claiming on the coast north of the eastern gulf, near the start of the peninsula that ends in darkness to the southeast.

EDIT: Colour: Whatever. Red. If already taken, then dark green. If that's taken too, dark orange.

A most important question. What is the duration of one turn?
If it's one month, one season, one year, 5 years, the stories and orders will be completely different (and if it's not determined, player stories will be inconsistent very fast with regards to time).

Der, I completely forgot. I think it will depend, though. Does it have to be the same time every turn? I am new to this, so give me a recommendation.

I was kind of thinking we go by season.

By the way, I am changing "kilometers" to "clicks". To keep it as vague as possible. I would think it would be a lot more than 200km.

Because it would take a horse, what... 15 hours to travel 200km? ;)

But I guess they are fully supplied military units... to that effect, it would take them up to 10 days. Maybe I should just double the scale of the map / double spell range.

Sorry to crowd this thread with so much OOC already, but I am keeping the current scale.

And those movement times I mentioned earlier would be doubled if it is within terrain that you can already see.

One Turn = One Month, by the way!

Here are Calendar and Unit Movement rules, which have been added to the "Orders" section of the ruleset:

And so on.

Unit Movement

I am not specifying movement because movement depends on several factors:

1. Whether or not your movement is within your kingdom.

2. How many supplies your units have. More supplies would probably make them more efficient. Less would make them travel faster. Also, heavier units may take more time.

3. How many units are moving together. Obviously more units moving together will result in slower movement speed.

I don't specify because I feel there are many factors involved. If you run into a heavily fortified castle while moving, it will make your movement slow. If monsters are bogging you down, it will make your movement slow. And so on.

You can tell me where you want your unit to go, and don't worry - in the update I will tell you where your units ended up.

Typically, medieval soldiers were able to march 100km in 4-5 days. Keep that in mind. Since each turn is a season, your units can pretty much move anywhere on the map in 1 turn in fully explored terrain (if unimpeded). However, it is easy for your troops to get bogged down. Think of terrain, climate, monsters, NPC entities, and so on. Also, If you are going to war or entering an enemy's terrain, your movement would slow down considerably.

A month may be too quick in my opinion...

Half a month is not time enough to pacify conquered populace and build settlements and cities, unless we are using magic or something.

Oh wait :p

The total map is about the size of Paris to Warsaw (in real life terms).

We could make it half a month.

I think then the real question would be...how often do you plan on updating?

Seon: You said that 1 month is too fast-paced, and now you are saying half a month is too slow.

He is saying that both are two slow. It's not like a conquered population will roll over and start producing units for you a month later.

Probably would take a couple of years before the civillians are pacified enough.
